    This is the best video explaining, from start to finish, razor clamming! I have watched dozens of videos and no other video explains so succinctly, with as thorough information explaining every step, yet very simple to process. Thank you so much for this! I can't wait to go clamming soon 😊

    Great video! My Dad introduced me to razor clam digging, cleaning, and eating 60 years ago. I’m happy to see that I’m doing it right! And yes, fresh fried razor clams are the BEST!

    I couldn’t reply to your question under my comment. Selling smelt has been part of the smelting tradition for as long as I can remember around here. Posting sales usually go up in FB, word of mouth, and way back when Craigslist was still popular. Lots of locals will sell right out of their house.

      They alternate areas each year and it's usually open year round, with advisories posted when the water gets too warm, allowing toxin build ups... However, given the current situation, we have not been allowed to clam in over two years now. Closed due to high levels of domoic acid content, from algae blooms, or so the state says... (Some fishermen think it might be from radiation levels)

      +Sophia Qi Our area allows 20 per day... Sounds like a lot, but there are only a handful of tides each year that are low enough to expose the clam beds.

    how do you guys find these creatures?

    • @outdoorcastironcook
      @outdoorcastironcook  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As we show in the video, you travel along the ocean wave line tapping your shovel on to the sand. When bubbles return back up it usually indicates that a clam is there beneath the sand. When you begin to dig you go fast enough to get below the clam to bring it up closer. Reaching down, carefully as they are Razor Clams for a reason, you can feel a shell and bring it back to the surface. Depending on the size, bigger is better, you then decide to keep it or pursue another hole. Go to 1:30 to see our preferred method. Joanie OCIC

    Would these clams live on the east coast? I'd like to get some here!

      I'm not sure... I've seen something similar in Britain, but they are more tubular shaped. But these are PACIFIC razor clams, so on the east coast they'd be a different type.
