I believe anyone can be an artist personally. But as far as lure making goes just jump into it. Everybody’s lures aren’t that good at first but you will learn fast especially if you’re watching the TH-cam guys making baits. That’s where I’ve learned most of what I know.

@@TreysArt lol I hear ya. I just got into this art . Like literally today I made a gorge hook. Spent 2 hours perfecting it ...20 mins of fishing lots of bites but no fish . Then big bite a snap hahaha first thought was ...looks like another 2 hours. It hurt hahaha
Yep that’s kinda sums it up lol it’s a great hobby though. Can be expensive but just be creative with what you have. That makes it more gratifying in my opinion.
@@TreysArt ya it's very relaxing I find . I find a knife can get me anything just takes alot of time . And time is what I have. Happy trails hope too see some new baits from you . Cheers
Hello, I am an amateur wood carver. Could you please share the measurements and angle degrees you used for the lure? In this way, I can make and test a lure like in the video. Thanks in advance :)
Sorry I don’t have measurements or anyone for this lure. It was just a free hand project. I would go with about a 45 degree for the lip. That should give it a good wobble.
How did it track so well with no weight in the belly? Super nice lure for just burnishing it with a torch like that. Very unique and just, well, pretty.
I think it was mainly because of how dense the wood was. The action actually wasn’t perfect but even adding 1 gram to it would have made it sink so I just went without any and it turned out ok.
I've noticed pretty much all American lure makers add lead to the belly. But its only really nessercary if you need to make the lure heavier. Lighter more buoyant lures are perfectly capable of swimming in a straight stable path. Here in Australia traditionally we haven't used lead in the belly routinely.
Actually.. now that I think about it. If I were to grab the disco ball hard enough I could possibly transfer the full rotation to my entire body and the universe may very well implode. Nobody must grab the disco ball.
Lighter more buoyant wood will give you the best action generally. Like balsa or basswood. Most of the time I use poplar just because that’s easy for me to get. I’ve her Tupelo is really good for carving but I’ve never used it before.
Really good video, fascinating to watch. I wondered what make/thickness of pen you used to sign the lure ? I've always wanted to make lures, this is making me think about taking the plunge ;0) Tight Lines
@@LeviVanSluijs That is completely fair enough ! I was doing it my way to speed production when I was selling the lures. I was only sanding the major corners of the profile then carving from there.
@@TreysArt thanks mate i get what ya doing love ya lures will try and make won my ? is what wood do ya use in the won you make a mold with i only get pine and balsa and some red wood hear in austraila thanks mate
I normally use poplar but I started out with pine. Only prob with pine is the grain in the wood is really wide and it’s a bit difficult to carve. I’d stick with the balsa if I were you. But maybe try and find something a little harder if your needing to make a master for molding.
@@TreysArt thanks mate the western red wood we get hear is lite and hard i have made molds balsa its ezy to carve and it comes in good thickness so i can make the stenciles latter any way thanks keep your vidos coming thay realy help at times thanks mate
Dude I can binge watch all your videos in one day lol. I don’t have an ounce of artistic creativity in my body, but I want to give this a try.

Thank you so much. I’m sure I will be making a similar one in the future.
Wow! That sure was beautiful! Great Video. I love how you keep it real and included the elusive "Tree Fish". 😊
Lol it happens to the best of us
limb bream
It ended up with a good wiggle. Nice work
Great video. I loved the final test of snagging it in a tree on the cast. Now THAT'S real world testing.
Hey I keep it real on my channel lol
@@TreysArt We've all done it.😂
That came out killer! That technique with the torch made that thing pop!
I love using the torch. It adds a lot of character but keeps it natural.
Beautiful natural colors. Superb Trey.
Thank you
Beautiful lure! Also the “Longnose gar….. tree…” killed me. I wish we had gars around me. Always wanted to catch one
They are very abundant where I live. Most people around here hate them but they are my favorite fish.
Man the effort you put into that I'm sure every cast is a near heart attack hoping you dont lose it .
If feels like that sometimes but after losing a ton of baits you get a little numb to it lol.

Beautiful bait! Love the torch effect. I believe it looks very natural. Bet you've caught a lot of fish on it. Keep up the fantastic work!
Thank you
Absolutely gorgeous, loved it 👏
Cool, you even tried it out 👌👍
Just living dangerously.. nice work
Have you ever considered making Briar Tobacco Smoking pipe? A very similar process. Many different materials used. Artisans from all over the world.
Never thought about it. I’ll look into now though

Hell yeah I'm 1st lollolol... Btw I'm trying to do this as well as my next lure project 🤤Wood grain seems like ancient lure to me😍
Thank you!!!! And yes I absolutely love finding unique wood grains. Prob going to be doing them more often. Makes for a very classy look I think.
Beautiful lure !!
Awesome skills !!
Excellent video !!

Did that plexiglass help with hydrodynamics making it move more like a fish? Trying to figure out what purpose it served. Came out great!
Yes it basically interferes with the flow of water causing the lure to have a side to side swim as it moves through the water.
@@TreysArtThat’s awesome! Thanks for the reply!
Great video my friend.
Thank you👍🏼
It went back to where it began. Rad lure man.
Thank you
Beautiful bait, great action and wobble in the water. You may nail a lunker on that one. Do you also make bait's to sell ? Thank you, John
I’m working on a new design right now to start selling here soon
As usual nice work.
Thank you 😊
Ótima ideia parabéns pelo seu trabalho meu amigo péscador
Мастер своего дела, молодец! эх мне бы такие руки
Where can I get those eyes
I bought these particular ones at bass pro shop. I can’t remember the brand though.
Beautiful bait.
Thank you.
Amazing 👍👍👍
What would happen if you grab the. Disco ball
Bad things. I would have to have a few beers first.

Where do you get your water slide eye decal? They look great!
Thank you. I just looked up fish eyes on google, made the pictures black and grey, then copied them a bunch onto one sheet of paper then printed them.
Well done Champion, I subscribed to your channel
Thank you!!!
👍👍👍👍👍
From a wisteria vine?
Trey possibly
Amazing 😳
Hi. What kind of wood do you use? Thanks!!
Normally I use poplar for most things. This video was a piece wisteria I believe.
Cok güzel oldu başarılar

You should definitely take the plunge 👍🏼 and the pens I’m using are pigma microns. I normally use the size .005 or .01
many thanks for the pen info. Well done on your creations, they are true works of art :0|)@@TreysArt
🙏 thank you
Do you have drawings on making this
No sorry all of this one was free handed
So cool! Can I ask what glue you used for the twist eyes?
Normally I just use regular super glue. Holds up to pretty much anything that’s gonna bit.
Where do you get your white wood?
The wood I used for this lure was something that was growing on my fence. Most of the time I buy poplar from places like Home Depot
@@TreysArt oops sorry bud I sent this to someone else I thought. But it's obvious you can make a lure out of Nothing. I dig your stuff
How can I purchase one?
Right now I only have 3 lures available for sale, they are on my Etsy shop. treysartlures.etsy.com
I like the I wood like to have one
Instead of carving , try holding the lure at an angle on the disc sander.
Not a bad idea.
@@TreysArt Its how I do it and with practice it works well.

Do you sell these?
Not at the moment. I use to but it takes me too long to make them for what people are usually willing to pay.
