- Scott Joplin's "Maple Leaf Rag"
You will see and hear Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks play this exact arrangement in HBO's series Boardwalk Empire [premier date is Sunday September 19th 9PM].
If you're in NYC on a Monday or Tuesday night, you can hear Vince and his Nighthawks at Sofia's [221 W. 46th St NYC 212 719 5799...8PM-11PM] It's a nice restaurant with a dance floor.

Maple Leaf Rag is just one of those timeless tunes. Love that banjo.
Vince Giordano's band is one of the most authentic early jazz bands I've ever heard. Their musical arrangements are clear, clean, sharp, and extremely well executed. Keep up the good work guys!!! :)
To this day, _still_ the very best big band/ensemble cover I’ve yet seen and heard, on this site. Encapsulates the careless, hedonistic optimism of the time in which the piece was composed, all while adding its own flair.
I also love the banjo work throughout the song.
These guys are terrific! I love their tuxedos--real class!
They play like that and you only compliment their clothes. That's cold.
I love Maple Leaf Rag. I also love how the band played it. It's great!
First heard this in The Sting. Started my love for this music.
Reminds me of a friend of mine who loves this music, and plays in an orchestra/band. He saw this and loved it.
Why is it, everytime I hear this, The Entertainer and similar rag time music I keep thinking of ‘The Sting’ 😂
Written in 1899; played in the style of (approximately) 1919
1919-1922 whereabouts.
How I wish I had known of this band playing in a nearby club when I was in New York in July, I would have loved to have heard them live...
Like a speak-easy. Boop-boop a doop and hotcha, baby!
Just saw them perform yesterday. Fantastic show!
This is timely as my brother Ken Salvo bday is Aug 2. Tears seeing this as I miss him, but heartwarming as he passed away In 2021. Thank you
WHOOPEEE!!!
I can play this on my piano but this also sounds great
Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks play Birdland every Monday nite: a 5: 30 show and a 8pm show !
I love love this arrangement! It makes me think of New Orleans in the 1930s!
Superb! Great banjo work, top banana!
Same here. This is a very enjoyable rendition.
Great groove, fellas.
Great band and fine arrangement. Really good.
I hear hints of The 1922 Herb Wiedoeft Nordscog version renamed "Fig Leaf Rag." I wonder whether for that recording, and for it's flip side,
"Virginia Blues" ( not really a blues ) whether or not the rhythm section was using an upright bass. I think I hear what sounds to be some very faint upper harmonics of a string bass, and there is a lightness of feeling in the groove that would emanate from using one.
eccellente......per piacere possiamo tornare indietro con gli anni, all'inizio del Novecento..???
Anyone else likes the beginning part? ;-;
Great band! They have a new club in NYC they play at every Monday and Tuesday night! At Iguana, 240 west 54th street [212 765 5454] in NYC you can hear them play these great songs! It's a real bargain: 3 sets of music, an 11 piece 1920s band and the cover is only $15. NYC's greatest music deal!
Simply wonderful!
semplicemente fantastici !
Finalmente lo encontré :'v :'D best band version

I really like how this guy has 666 subscribers
1910s
not 1910s, 1900s
Why am I getting huge Disneyland vibes from this??
Ragtime is often played throughout Main Street USA
ええ!クラリネットとサックス二本持ち!?
I wonder if this is considered ragtime or jazz?
choice smi|es.
I can barely see the drummer
Also, is it just me or does the violinist/violist look like Maurice LaMarche?
Am I the only one that gets huge Disneyland vibes from this?
I bet you passed the ragtime piano!
Orchestration is nice, but it is toooooooo fast !! Scott Joplin should be played much slower to be able to perceive every note of the tune !!
