I don't normally give negative reviews, but this seems like a pretty sloppy one: - During his entire discussion of the remotes, he has them reversed (indicating that the Valerion remote goes witht the C2, and the C2's wth the Valerion). He also spends a lot of time describing obvious and nearly identical buttons, without mentioning backlighting, metal vs. plastic construction, etc. - He places the projectors carelessly on the floor (no apparent effort at vertical or horizontal alignment). This doesn't let either show its true potential (making a projector internally correct for very poor placement hurts its performance). This might make sense as an additional "worst case" test, but doesn't give a realistic comparison. He's using an ALR screen designed for a UST projector (not a good choice for these) - that may be the reason he placed them on the floor. - He never identifies which of the four new Valerion projectors he is testing (kind of an important detail).
"Operating system is standard true Google." Man, this Google employee really cracks me up. He's even mentioning Disney -- you know, the comapany on its way out of its very existence. Whatever gets you through the night, I suppose.
The comparison seems awkward to me, since both have a triple laser light source and the valerion has more brightness. The valerion has 3000 ISO lumens, which translates to roughly 3500 ANSI lumens, while the Ultra has 3000 ANSI lumens.
In actual usage, per the Hookup compare, these 2 lifestyle projectors are more similar than different when it comes to usable brightness with accurate color....the Valerion was marginally brighter ( 100 lumens or so ). Where the Valerion pulled ahead is in the Tone mapping for Dolby Vision , and HDR...where it was clearly better. For me personally I find every display and projector that I have used, the brightness hit in Dolby Vision n HDR is to significant. I rather watch all my content in SDR, and in that format these 2 projectors are more alike then different.
PLEASE HELP ME, I AM BUYING THE VALERION, but I don't know which screen to buy, in the space I have I think a 132" one can fit, even a 150" one, but they told me that the 132" one has no seam so I think it's the best option but I don't know which one you recommend please
That's nice that it is an out of the box calibration method but I think most consumers switch between PQ modes so it would be nice to know what settings you have them in. Also, is DTM active, EBL, or shadow detail? Again all things the average consumer will do and I think this video misses the mark for not addressing these issues even though I agree the average consumer will not pay for a calibration.
You didn't mention what model of Valerion you're reviewing. It looks like the Plus 2. The Pro 2 is brighter and higher tier. The Max is their flagship model but is not available yet.
It's interesting. In some scene's the black floor looks lower in the Valerion and in others the C2 Ultra(example at 13:12) To me the Valerion is blowing out the high contrast in scenes with low blacks and high brights, again example at around 13:12. I honestly don't think one is "better" than the other. Out of box I'm sure they will be a bit different do to default factory tuning/software, but to my eye on TH-cam its a wash depending on the specific content / scene you are viewing. If the Valerion was still on kickstarter pricing I'd choose it, but the C2 Ultra is street price $500 cheaper and that's without factoring in the optional gimble for the Valerion(post kickstarter). That's a no brainer for the C2 Ultra, I'm sure other opinions will differ.
People should note the test room has white walls everywhere. The spill/reflecting light is going to hurt any project's black floor even with the lights off, and will disadvantage any projector with superior contrast.
The c2 sure looks brighter. The colors pop more than the valerion. That said, both are not calibrated so they might look more similar after calibration.
Great Video. How good is the contrast and black level of the Valerion compared to the Hisense px3/pro in a completely darkened room? I don't care about the different projection and I think many people would be interested in such a video!
@@davidsilberhorn two different products. The hisense px3 is outstanding in black lavel details however these are two different product types. Hello. Nice comparison. I have one big request. For my Benq HT4550i projector which I bought 6 months ago you also did a review. Now I've seen everywhere how they present Valerion projectors and how they have contrast and blacks and such. Please. Compared to my Benq ht4550i projector is it really that much difference? With my projector I don't use ALR screen (don't know what kind) but white matte screen 1,1 gain. I must point out that I don't have a darkened room. The walls are white. I was starting to wonder if I'd sell it and buy the Valerion :( Thank you very much for your reply.
Your BenQ is a great projector. Are you happy with it? If yes stop watching these videos at least for a few years until something way better or you will drive yourself nuts.
@@JoeAnshien Hello. I guess you're right, I've been going crazy and youtube keeps showing me Valerion and Valerion is terrible :( My projector is good and good quality. That I don't have good contrast (black) is not only the projector but also that I have white walls. Even Valerion wouldn't be 100 percent better in my conditions. Thanks for opening my eyes.
@@retrofilmtrailer1137 I have had projectors since 1993, starting out with 480P. I now have a WeMax One 1080p since 2018 and am looking to upgrade to 4K even though most of my source is 1080P. Every one promises the best blacks and this projector is so over hyped I doubt it could live up to it in person. At around $2K I would have considered it. But at $3K - Nope. I have actually been considering your BenQ as they have a great warranty and reputation. When I had used walls in the past I was able to paint a wall grey and it helped the blacks and contrast. If you could make a boarder with some flat black molding it help also.
one thing to notice ... c2 is more brighter . and if its light is bit reduced. the contrast level will come more close to valerian. just like what the hook up guy data tells . c2 is little less in native contrast . and little less dynamic too behind valerian.
Also what I noticed is that because its brighter you can see the walls are also reflecting more on the C2 Ultra side, so that means worse black levels overall, I agree it should have been brought to same brightness levels to compare both farely in dark envitoment and max brightenss in day envitroment.
Its just different software on the same hardware, check out the focus screen , its the same in both , also the specs are the same including optical zoom , adverised lumens etc The only difference is software
Are the whites/highlights really this drastically different? The scene with the duck, its white breast looks a medium gray on the Valerion compared to the C2. Is DTM and/or EBL turned on for the Valerion? I find this difference in whites shocking.
Valerion Pro 2 looks substantially darker in some cases. I understand that you did not calibrate them at all, but I'd like to see a comparison when calibrated. Even the basic consumer who knows and wants to buy either one of these products would dabble into the settings to change some picture settings.
The greatest strength of the Valerion Pro 2 is Enhanced Black Level and Dynamic Tone Mapping. Activate those and the comparism isn't even close any more!
yehh correct ,,, they gave engineering sample to all reviewers. let come the origional mass production product . quaility will not be better but bit worse.
The C2 looks absolutely terrible. It's not even close between them. The C2 is so oversaturated it's cartoon like and everything is blown out to the point it's smeared and you can't make out details. The scene with the leaves for example, you can see all the details on the leaves on the Valerion and the colours look correct. The C2 is just a mess.
@vagomaniac probably true however the vast majority of people do not calibrate their display equipment. The Valerion max will also come with a calibrated isf preset already done for you.
