2WDing? - Esperance Coastline Adventure in Falcon Wagons - Part 1

  • Another Esperance & surrounds exploration trip. Filling in the gaps between some of the places we had visited on our prior trip, 12 months ago, and to try some new challenges. We drove on countless beaches, climbed mountains, explored the coastline in a yacht, encountered dolphins up close, and even got bogged and unbogged!
Our plan to traverse all the way to Point Malcolm was cut short however, by a sketchy looking beach entry, and poor mapping with no way to confirm if there was still an existing track. To be completed on another trip!
This time, we both were driving 2WDs, in the form of AU2 & BA RTV-converted Falcon wagons. This video proves just how capable an unconventional vehicle can be, even if it is only 2WD! Diff locks, clearance & chunky tyres + careful driving techniques are very much key to success. Definitely not something for the inexperienced to try, however.

hey guys well done on what looks like a great drive choice...i have a bf wagon and i want to do the lift also but im wondering how hard is it to do the lift and did u guys do it yourselves.....also is it just rtv conversion?? or custom springs shackles etc

Hey Jay, there are a few ways of achieving lift. To achieve the full RTV suspension lift you do need to cut out the standard front leaf hanger and weld in a longer Rtv style hanger. These can be purchased as a custom kit, but welding in place is the one thing that might be beyond the average diy. Can pay someone to do this and swap the rest over yourself. Or you can use reset lifted leaf springs or use airbags like in the white one but that limits travel. Front suspension is just nuts and bolts to swap all the Rtv parts in.

Do you think it's possible a toyota tacoma or light pickup with 2wd could drive the beach like this? Timmy C Arizona

Hi Geoff, both snorkels are TJM. TJM make snorkels for AU and BA.

@@underdogoffroad9847 thanks for the info, with one of my cars I'm considering installing the V6 diesel and running gear from the Territory but I want a 5 speed manual box.
