    The best roofing system is the one your roofer is best at installing! Having said that I’d be curious if you think this is worth it vs typical EPDM

    Most of the roofing systems are good, it just depends how competent the roofer is.

    A two day course? Ooooh.
    There used to be a 5 year apprenticeship to be a built up felt roofer or slater. Then it was 3, then it was 6 months. And you wonder why all the roofs are leaking?

      not in wales mate --- you started bumping tiles , after a year you actually got to lay them then you started laying slates then you learnt flat roofing after mixing bloody bitumen for 6 months then torch on then you learnt to do GRP and (useless) rubber systems.
      took me 8/9 years --- that s how you teach someone.

      This is just to have an accreditation for one single roofing product, not to learn the entire trade. But I think that’s obvious.

    If there’s is no full bond of the system to the deck is there a risk of wind uplift issues (in a storm for example) which might cause tears in the grp… I’ve seen felt and single ply roof systems do that when partially bonded and it was messy it took the whole roof covering off

  • @barryford9706
    @barryford9706 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve used a product called Ultraflex. You cover the roof with the product, then lay your matting on top, rolling more product on top. You can leave it like that or put Ultratop over the top when it’s dry which extends the warranty.

    There's only one system worth using on flat roofs - EPDM synthetic rubber. It's; flexible, re-usable, recyclable, no issues with UV, cold process, comes in seamless sheets of any size: The Firestone system can't be beaten.

    • @TheDeanoc69

      Joins joins joins. Ok on a simple easy flat roof like a garden room but throw some detail in there and it becomes a weak spot. Grp is completely seamless.

    • @gurglejug627
      @gurglejug627 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheDeanoc69 one could argue that about weakness in detailing about any system not properly installed so I'm not sure what your point is there. GRP is certainly seemless (if properly laid) until it cracks, degenerates or delaminates, it is not ultra violet proof to any real extent (which is why sailors wax/treat their yachts annually), but it certainly can't be reused and is not flexible, nor is it environmentally friendly, nor is it generally suitable for laying green roofs or paving on. EPDM is streets ahead.

    • @gurglejug627
      @gurglejug627 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheDeanoc69 Also, glassfibre is far more temperature dependent for laying and by necessity uses noxious chemicals - EPDM can be laid without. And no, not just for 'simple easy flat roof(s) like a garden room' but for massive warehouses it can be got in vast sheets with no joins whatsoever - with the Firestone EPDM system.

      substructure is bonded by liquidising the base layer , AKA heated bitchimin

    • @abdulhakim-ali5215
      @abdulhakim-ali5215 ปีที่แล้ว

      no he doesn't mean that. he means the usual grp roofing process involves putting resin and matting to bond to the roof deck. this method involves big sheets of fibre glass where just the joins are sealed using resin.
