  • While renovating the former Caddy’s restaurant on Central, construction workers uncovered the elevator of the Detroit Hotel which was built in 1888. An architectural history professor thinks the elevator was installed 10 years later when electricity came to the unincorporated village of St. Petersburg. That makes it one of the oldest elevators in the state of Florida in the first hotel built in St. Petersburg.

doubtful. But atleast they arent going to get rid of it or hide it again. this is a very awesome as it may be one of the oldest in it's original form in St. Pete.
