  • Weedon Island Preserve, at approximately 3,700 acres, is an ecological jewel within an urban landscape on the shores of Old Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida. A refuge for native flora and fauna, Weedon Island is also one of Florida's most important cultural resources. Discover the rich human history of the Island that began thousands of years ago and witness how the environment and people support and shaped each other to produce the Preserve we know today.
This production was made possible through the support of the Friends of Weedon Island, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the continuing education, protection, and preservation of the Weedon Island Preserve. Become a Friend today by visiting friendsofweedonisland.org/!

Bob and staff, an outstanding public education tool! Really impressive. Wish I lived nearer and could visit and work there. You may have heard the archaeology lab in the New Smyrna Museum in New Smyrna Beach has been renamed the Grange-Moore Archaeology Research Center. Still miss him and his knowledge. Hope all OK over that way. Dot Moore

Nicely done video...thanks to the Friends, longtime vols Jim and Emma, and all involved. During my tenure with Pinellas County TV, Weedon Island was a primary client on my "beat." Among other projects, I spent 7 years documenting the recovery of the 1,100 year old dugout canoe; detailed videos available. Another 2-part video I'd recommend is the 2012 symposium, "For The Love of Weedon," which brought together many associated with its modern history.
