I'm excited that you reacted to this! She actually never got to finish her cross over album. They completed the ablum with previous songs she had recorded earlier in her career. She passed about a month after this show. Rest in piece Queen!
You can also see the influence in her wardrobe! I remember in the movie, they made a reference to her wanting to sing like Donna Summer when she was a kid.
Gloria Gaynor sang, "I will survive" Lipps, Inc sang "Funky Town" You were right on "Last Dance" and "On the Radio" being Donna Summer. Van Mccoy sang "The Hustle" I'm a big fan of Selena and all of the above artists. Yeah, I'm an older white woman who was a band geek and lover of good music. 😂 Didn't we have the BEST MUSIC though?! I look forward to and love your reactions. Keep doing you! ❤
Sadly, Selena only recorded a few songs for her English album. 2 of them are iconic and still sound current: "Dreaming of You" & "I Could Fall In Love" 😊😊😊
Selena was special. Her voice is literally perfect, her fashion was ahead of its time. Her extremely infectious laugh and personality will always be remembered and cherished.
Selena's last concert before she died. Selena sold out the Astrodome that night with 60 thousand fans in attendance. She was only 23 when she was murdered.😢
Selena has a special place in my heart because she was my dad's favorite young artist up to the point he died from Cancer. Great reaction Britt... as we all know you can sing and dance and I think this is one of the few times we saw both. That was fun.
Selena was finishing up her crossover album that’s why she started performing songs in English around her last days. She didnt get to finish it 😔 the few songs that did get recorded and released changed the Latin American music industry forever. This was the 90s when there were only 1 or two Latin artists that were accepted into American music.
All vocals from the movie were Selena's original vocals at the request of her father. I met her along with my brother briefly before she passed, and I WILL NEVER EVER FORGET IT. the brother dancing with her sadly passed away as well 😢
I’m just like you Britt, I know a lot of songs but have no clue who sings them. I remember that day, I was working at an elementary school after school program and some kids were coming in crying and I ask one girl what was wrong and she said Selena is dead, Yolanda shot her. I thought it was a family member or friend of hers. That weekend my lil nieces came over and they were playing “bidi bidi bom bom” I’m dancing and singing and I say, “love this song, who sings it?” One of my niece tears up and says “Tia, it’s Selena” my heart sank. I realized this is who my school kids were crying about.
J Lo only sang three words in the film. Other than that, all vocals were Selena’s. It was important to her father that Selena’s voice was the one heard throughout.
Jennifer Lopez sang three words in the movie, when the crowd was getting crazy and she said she can calm them down by slowing down "Como La Flor" all the vocals are Selena.
J Lo was actually inspired to to sing, get into fashion, and do other things after seeing what Selena was striving for. Before that J Lo had only been in a handful of movies and was a Fly Girl on In Living Color.
The Hustle and The Electric Slide are 2 different disco dances. This was a Disco medley/mash-up of Selena's favorites so her saying "Do the hustle" but she busts into the Eletric slide was on purpose.
@@RemyEdits What I am trying to convey, 1) the name of the song playing is the hustle, the main lyrics to which were a repeated "Do the Hustle" hence the name of the song. 2) In the 70's the dance which was danced at parties and school dances was called at the time the hustle. The steps to which were exactly what Selena was doing on stage which is now more commonly called the Electric Slide. This was at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at the Astrodome. Attendance was about 70,000 that night if not over. It was record breaking at that time. My family and I had tickets and I was the only one that didn't go! 😢 I figured too many people, I'll catch her next concert. Sadly, it was not meant to be! 😢😢😢
It is in Texas. In Houston to be exact. It was the home field of the Houston Astros baseball team and the Houston Oilers football team until the Oilers were moved to Tennessee and became the Titans. It remained the home of the Astros until 1999 when they moved to a new stadium. Although there were no longer any primary tenants it remained in use for many concerts such the final performance on George Strait's fair well tour and other special events. It was sighted for numerous safety and fire code violations and closed. In November of 2013 it was partially demolished. All interior structures such as seating were removed and exterior handicapped access ramps were removed. There was a plan to recitalize the stadium as part of Houston's bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics. That never happened because London, United Kingdom was chosen to host the 2012 Olympics. The building now sets empty and unused on the Texas register of historical sites.
The medley was recorded live on February 26, 1995 at the Houston Astrodome. It became Selena's final live recording before she was murdered on March 31, 1995. It interpolates the songs "Last Dance" and "On the Radio" by Donna Summer, "The Hustle" by Van McCoy and the Soul City Symphony and "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor and "Funkytown" by Lipps Inc. The track reached number 25 on the Hot Latin Singles Chart.
This medley was awesome and still is fire today almost 30 yrs later. I found Selena after the movie as well. Went down the Selena rabbit hole. She was super cute and down to earth and just a cool person. Absolutely horrible what happened. She would have been huge. And yes. This is on my work out mix as are a lot of her songs. I think she’s up for parole soon. Which I agree she should not get out. Thanks for reacting.
70s the disco era the best time in history. We used to go out in Hollywood and the entire dance floor would do the hustle at the same time it was beautiful. So much fun...On the radio is also Donna Summer..
Brought back my youth the freedom we were chasing 70s to the 80s. Sad she can't share her gift with us anymore and bring new music . However, her legacy of song has written her name in the stars.
Pride of Texas. Our White Rose. No auto tune, No Lip Syncing. A tragedy…Selena was murdered 30 days after this performance. Why would you talk and sing over her performance?
First song was Gloria Gaynor "I Will Survive". Second song was "Funky town". Third song was Donna Summer "Last Dance". Forth song & dance was "The Hustle". Fifth song was Donna Summer "On the Radio". Yes, that's Chris Perez on lead guitar behind her.
I love disco music too. I was born in 1974 so I remember listening to it. But love 80s music also. I do love Selena too. I agree, she was taken too soon ❤
I will survive was sung by Gloria Gaynor and Donna Summer sang Last Dance and it was played right before closing time in every club in America and they turned the lights back on after this song!
She was still working on her crossover album so she didnt get to finish. If you watch her videos for Dreaming of you & I could fall in love they showed old pics of her.
This was Selena’s 3rd time at the astrodome & the 3rd time breaking the attendance record. She also designed the jumpsuit she’s wearing here and many more of her stage outfits. Didn't read all the comments, but I'm just here to help. First song was Gloria Gaynor (Not Donna Summer) with 'I Will Survive'. The next song (which you thought were two different songs) is 'Funky Town by Lipps Inc'. It's the beginning verses and Chorus of the same song. Yes, 'Last Dance' is by Donna Summer...lol. The Electric Slide? lol It's actually song called 'The Hustle', which was HUGE in every dance club (even if it quite boring unless you were dancing to it). That's why they say "Do The Hustle" right in the middle of it. Yes, the next song is 'On The Radio' by Donna Summer (I can't remember from the movie to be honest, BUT I doubt J-Lo sang it for the soundtrack...she doesn't have the power in her voice to pull off that entire song...in my opinion) Yolanda Salazar (whatever her name is) just came up for parole/release/something recently. All the vocals in the film were Selena’s tho with Jlo lip syncing except for like one or two small scenes where Jlo does a little bit of acapella like the small adlib before the “Como la flor” concert scene

Not only was she big in Mexico but in the United States as well😍 unfortunately she wasn’t worldwide but after death was worldwide. Her legacy continues❤️ loved the reaction!!
My favorite part was after she lost one of her earrings, she grabbed the other earring and tossed it. She did it so flawlessly like a pro and kept the show going. Can you imagine if Selena was still alive and she headlined her own Super Bowl Half Time Show? That would've been the greatest show ever.
This Disco Medley is one of the best live performances that I’ve seen from any artist ever.
