You’re right that explorer is the best vocation if you want a self-sufficient tailor, but new players should be aware that there are other tailoring vocations as well. Yeoman has cook, farmer, and tailor, which allows self-sufficient cooking in addition to tailoring, and Armorer has prospector, metalsmith, and tailor, which allows self-sufficient smithing in addition to tailoring. These latter two do not allow self-sufficient tailoring though, as a tailor cannot work with raw hides, but requires a forester to process them into leathers. So one of these tailors would need to acquire leather from an alt or a friend with a forestry vocation, or buy them on the auction house, as leather sometimes drops from treasure chests and the like, but the quantities are insufficient for leveling up vocation skills.
Anyway I’m sure you already know this, but new players might not.

Check my ultimate beginner's guide to crafting in LOTRO where all the vocations are explained in great detail. Also mentioned in this video, as it appears you missed the reference.

@@Renfail ah. Yes, I didn’t see that other video. Well, now you’ve mentioned it here too, so if anyone else missed it, they can look it up now.

Too much talking nonsense. Very less important things to know, like crafting tools, how to get them early, where to get them, how to get recipes and so on. See what Im talking about?
