For an old JStars maintainer it was awesome to hear some JStars love! Northrop Grumman actually flew and operated that prototype with military oversight and control on board. Love that old bird!!
During the build up of 'everything' for Desert Storm, I'm sure I saw the JStars at Riyadh AB. I mean, there was almost every aircraft passed through there. I figured it was a case of pilots getting familiar with the different bases available in case of any future need for a quick landing. Great video.
Was in 5th year of school when they started desert storm. Was watching the film Tough Guys and this interrupted it. Never got to see the end of the movie for years after.
Those Strike Eagles look beautiful, to me that is peak Aviation. I know F22's a better but dang the power and speed of that plane along with the Kill to Death of it are amazing.

There really wasn't a lot moving on the HoD from 25-28 Feb 91. In fact, it was shown that the kills that were attributed to the AF during the air war were inflated because they had been bombing the same targets day after day. Just hitting hot spots whether they were moving or not. One thing you don't show here is the smoke from the Al Wafrah Oil Fields burning. You also didn't model in the hundreds of ZPU 24-1 and 24-2s on all the hillsides.
I See they have finally agreed to retire the A10 and replacing it with the F35, they say its better to use a multi role aircraft than a dedicated aircraft for CAS. The GAU 8 Is no longer cost effective or effective in the modern combat arena due to extensive collateral damage due to the huge area of rounds missing the target due to the cone of fire at the max range, and with the effective range of only 3660 m puts the A10 well in the range of all manpads. Shame really but it its been around since the late 70s so its had great combat life.
The Russians have destroyed a Challenger 2. I bet all of the biased British tankers are pissed that their beloved Challie 2 just lost it's aura of invincibility.
Why people even like Challenger 2? This tank is the only one managed to store explosive ammunition with the crew and not having an autoloader at the same time. This is a pure WW2 design.
I guess its because the British are supposed to have invented the best armor for MBTs to have, and because the Challenger 2 was never lost in battle, even though the Iraqi military of 2003 was hardly a peer competitor of NATO.
Y'all should check out the AMAZING podcast series "Blowback" the first season is about Iraq and our involvement with it. The other three seasons are amazing insights into other historical events too. Highly recommend them. Basically though, Gulf War 1 was much more nebulous and complicated and we weren't as innocent or "the good guys" as the traditional historical narrative suggests. We all but told Saddam directly that we wouldn't mind his taking Kuwait, and essentially we used Iraq as a scary boogyman and our actions in the past directly influenced and caused the later tragedies a few decades later. Honestly IMO the series is so good EVERYONE should listen, particularly if you are interested in historical events and understanding the real ground truth.
Not really that complicated. The ground truth was that we stated we would not allow Saddam to invade. Desert Shield was months of us telling him not to invade. Id go as far as to say that its one of the most clear cut, straightforward military events in modern history, possibly human history. You can try to obfuscate it by saying the coalitions intentions or Saddams intention were unclear but thats only if you have a very bad translator for both sides.

Not to sound like a know it all but AMRAAM was used in ODS only the F15 and F16s carried them and they were the AIM-120B
From what I read is was pretty small numbers and therefore not reall mainstream?
