These seeds should be distributed around the world. With climates changing, we need more backups of amazing genetics. Given that these are restricted to a small area, one crazy season could wipe out a large proportion of the population. And these days, every year has exceptional seasons.
We cannot afford to be chauvinists about these precious plants.

1:52 - I had to laugh when he said the whole nut is not allowed to be exported then directly afterward says these measures will hopefully keep the fruit from going extinct 😅. The locals have every right to restrict the export of their natural resources but lets not pretend they're doing it to protect the fruit from harm. If we really wanted to keep it from going extinct we would allow people to plant it in many other places.

Apparently it doesn't grow anywhere else. The limited harvest means that they have enough fruit leftover to grow more trees. Each seed is precious. If they could farm coco de mer outside of the Seychelles then the someone would've done it long ago.

Then no one would want to plant it. It takes lots of resources to save this plant and you aren't getting paid for.
Even for something like panda conservation, they get money from donations and zoos (unlike coco de la mer, panda is a very popular animal) that want to showcase them.
