But apparently, these were only the external fan temeperatures being measured. Later reports have said the internal temperature is actually cooler, implying the first wave of heat sinks were inefficient.

It wasn't much longer afterward I was taking it apart every 3-4weeks to clean the laser lens with alcohol just to get it to stop "Disc Read Error" for a period of time. DVD's would also fade in and out with brightness, going dark, back up to really bright then dark again. The PS2 is one example of later Sony iterations actually improving the base product. I saved my christmas / birthday money after that temporary fix didn't work anymore and bought another. That one booted the media immediately every time.
