Is there any chance you could make a video talking more about breaking in new skates, things you do or use to prevent blisters, etc? Love the channel, thanks for making such great content!
This is why I love this channel. He looks so happy and the amount of effort it takes to make this is insane. My favorite channel byfar out of all 7 years of watching TH-cam.
They look great. I know it’s been a while but see you still wear the fr1s? Do you mind if I ask what size and if you sized down or went off the chart? I am 280-285mm and think I need the size 10 shell, wondering if I could size down with the intuitions.
Yes I still wear the fr1 a it’s my main skate. Sizing is really hard to determine with the intuition liners. I’ve never owned a pair myself so I can’t give the best advice but I’m pretty sure you are meant to size down because the liner is much thinner
I just bought FR2 model, and I was a little scare because the breaking in process hurts a little, I didn’t know if that is normal, but your video show me a light in the way! Thanks.
I ride the FRX skates. seem to be the economy model, but I'm very happy with them. They were pretty painful breaking them in but glad it got better. They seem to run true to size, but could be wider for my foot
I got the frx last year, found them to be fairly comfortable throughout the break in period. First time at the rink in them I sprained my ankle. A year later I've been skating about 6 times since then. Just ordered a pair of light blue fr1s because they were on sale and I figure now I won't need to buy another pair of inline skates, just a couple frames, and maybe a pair of quad skates. I have a ways to go yet, but it feels so good to glide
I use to skate in the 90s for years. Firstly bought a pair of the Seba FX after not skating for about a decade.. The insoles themselves were super comfortable, plenty of toe room... but damn my feet and ankles would ache after each skate. I just ended up putting them away in the closet. ☹️ Should i have stuck with it for longer? Lol My old cheap Roces when i was 25 were just skate and go. Lol.
You've got to get used to them. I put them away for 4 years as I moved and picked them up again at the beginning of this year. I got all the pains. My daughter is on quads, so she's good. Stick with it. I'm really happy I did. 😊
@@Skating_Squid Oh, no I've only used them about half a dozen times. I skated recently with them.. the foot areas was actually quite comfortable.. More the cuff area above the ankle that was uncomfortable after a while.
Awesome! Did you ever consider any other specific skates in this price range when you were buying these. I'm looking at the Rollerblade Lightning as well as the Powerslide One Zoom 80, and the FR FRX. Basically sub $200 skates. Thanks!
For me the fr boots fit my feet really well. It would be nice to try some other brands but I feel like if you find something that works really well for you then there isn’t much use in find something different
This vid and your channel helped me decide on FR for my first pair of inlines, as a rollerskater -- thanks! I love that I'll be able to customise them with the colour kits I decided on some white FRX 80's since they're cheap and so I'll really be able to thrash em about learning techniques haha Keep up the good work, squid
I got 3 bloody blisters trying to break in new FR3. After one skate run of 5 mi. Is that normal for break in process or is that too much? I’ve been using bigger sized twister skates ever since and never got another blister.
I want to buy fr3 80 or flying eagle f6s . I dont know which one to take. Which one would you advise me to take? Is there much difference between the two? If it were you, which one would you buy?
Have you ever tried Micro MT plus Skates? I just listened that they are so similar to the FR, but it is the first time that I’m going to buy, I want to give them an opportunity, they are cheaper than FR and I m going to start in this world, but I just want to be sure that it wa a good decision 😅
Just got my first pair and am beyond excited since it's a maaaajor upgrade from my crappy impalas lmao. You mentioned getting orange replacement parts - how do you go about doing that exactly? Thank you!
Ayeee that’s awesome and honestly the orange ones are impossible to find but there are other colors too, you’ll have to do some searching. Look up “fr1 color kit” 🦑
Hey there @Skating Squid ! I've recently picked up interest in skating, and find your videos very relaxing. A quick question for you. I LOVE your OG White and Orange Sebas. In this video you talk about how they're nearly the same skate (as the branding split). I'm looking to customize a pair of FR FR1's I picked up myself, and was wondering if the Seba parts would fit on a FR FR1 boot. (Specifically straps, cuffs, abrasive pads). So, would your Seba cuffs fit on these FR1's?
@@Skating_Squid Awesome! Thanks for the quick and informative reply. Love your videos, love your Sebas, and just got my FR1's in today, and I love those too! Peace from ND!
Awesome, there needs to by more FR1 reviews on TH-cam! Just subscribed! I have the black FR1 80s and they’re my favorite skate. Only got them a few weeks ago, but I’m loving them. I do have a few questions I was hoping you could address, either here or if you decide to make another video. Firstly, you talked about how the frames were not “centered” when you first got them, and were aligned more towards the inside. Could you define or show what you mean by “centered”? Do you mean that the frames weren’t centered relative to the metal mounting plates, or they weren’t centered relative to the center of your feet? When you try to center your frames do you just do so by moving the front of the frame side ways, or do you also move the heel to match the amount at the front so the frames stay parallel? I’ve heard that the liner being very thick and cushy really packs down, some say to almost a full size larger. Have you found this to happen to such an extreme degree after skating the FR liner for a long time? Also, what’s your foot length and when size FR skate did you choose? I hope you don’t mind the multiple questions, I’m just very curious about these skates, your experience with them and how you’ve sent them up. Thanks.
Hey thank you for the subscribe! And the frame question is kinda hard answer but if you have Instagram I would be more than happy to send you a dm with pictures so it’s easier to show what I meant. As for the liner question, no I’ve never experienced and crazy pack down that would be a full size difference haha I’ve never heard of anything like that from anyone. My skates fit pretty tight with a brand new liner and once they break in they feel perfect until I’m ready to replace them. As for the foot length it’s around 27cm or 26cm because my right foot is slightly bigger. I go with a EU 42 but also with the fr skates come in 3 different shell sizes and I think 42 is the last size before it becomes the large shell. Hopefully that makes sense!
@@Skating_Squid Thanks so much, I DM'd you on Instagram. Also thanks for explaining your experience with the liner. It's good to know that they don't pack down to the degree that some people have said... I was a little worried about that. I think what some people were referring to may have been they got a size larger, or they were at the bottom of the shell size, so when their liners initially felt tight, but after break in they felt too loose. Thanks for providing your measurements and skate size, and yes, the shell size totally makes sense. My feet are 24cm and I got size 37 which is meant for 23.5cm feet, and is also the top end of the shell sizing, so it looks like I won't have to worry about it getting too loose after the break in period. Just curious, have you tried the Deluxe Intuition liner version of the FR1, do you have any thoughts about that vs the stock liner version, or are you just content with the stock version and don't feel the need to try it?
@@whattachoon 37 is perfect for my 24cm feet. The inside of the shell measures 25cm, not including the heel and toe pockets, which probably add another 5mm. I have relatively low volume feet, and when I first put the skates on, they were extremely tight, like my blood circulation was being cut off, but after a few skates, the liner really package down, and they felt very comfortable, while still being responsive. The 38 (which is actually 38/39 shell) would definitely have been too big for me after the liner broke in. The liner is very thick, but it packs down a lot, so as long as the length is good (my toes touch the front of the shell when standing upright, but not when they're bent) it should generally be fine.
@@mountainpeakcloud8442 hey, thanks so much for your response! My feet are both 24cm with socks and 38.8cm without, so I’m torn currently between the 37 and the 38. But I’m leaning towards the 38s packing out too big. My snowboarding boot shells are 25cm on the inside which fit my feet just fine.
I just got my first pair of blades and I was so worried they were too small. After a few weeks, realizing they’re just right after breaking in. Sucks at first though

To help you break in, have you tried 3mm neoprene patches? I used 3mm neoprene to stop ankle chafing ....My ice skates I can go for 3 hours, but inlines around 2 hours, before I start to feel the left ankle getting a little chafed.....
def gonna pick some of those up today!
We would like to see longer videos please! like 20 to 15 minutes :D!
I’m getting my first skate on my birthday
thats awesome i hope you love them! I have a tutorial playlist on my channel if you need extra help you can watch them or just ask me!
