This is such a tragic romance and the VAs ability to sound wistful, pleading, desperate, her voice slightly breaking in this one line is everything to me. I love the contrast between Sad Inquis and Mad Inquis and how Solas reacts. Sad Inquis is on the verge of tears and tries to get closer and plead and reach out for him and he puts his hands up and backs away like a cornered animal because he knows, he *knows* that if he lets her touch him, if he tries to comfort her, his resolve will break. But Mad Inquis yells and pushes at him and Solas just...takes it. He doesn't put up a fight at all, he wants her to let it out because he deserves it and he knows this was a mistake so he lets her have it. He'd rather take violence over her seeking comfort because at least if she hates him it'll make everything easier but if she still tries to love him, he doesn't know if he'll be able to stay away.
I love this whole romance no matter how much it breaks my heart. I love mad or sad you know deep down your inky still loves. Love just hurts more when it's the bad guy whole earned it.
He's literally the elven god of betrayal. Just imagine it's Satan breaking up with you because he cares about you so much. It's quite tragic, really. Solas is still a pos tho.
Fun Fact: 1:11 when Solas was going to tell you "the truth" it wasn't the Vallaslin that he wanted to talk about. The story writer said that Solas was going to reveal to you that he is the elven "god" Fen'harel, but at the last moment he chickened out.

It is so sad, and it has broken the hearts of many players, and it broke my heart when I wrote him."
There's one thing DAI nails and that is the emotions in the voice of the character you can be distraught and broken or livid and vengeful to Solas, it really gave character to each player

Imagine waking uo to a world, where the people you love suffer greatly because of your choice. Even when the choice you made, was to save your people at that time. His people paid the price. So now, he has to make up for his mistake even if it means by destroying this world. Cause in his mind, his old world was how it was suppose to be. Now with the veil, things are chaotic. My inqusitor chose to be hopeful. Cause i wanted an optimistic love interest for his route.
Ah yes. "I say no to you altering my face, and just like that we're done?!" I played her as someone who finds him fascinating but has little patience for him trashing the Dalish

Cole has dialogue after discussing how hurt your character is, and confronts solas about it---he starts explaining solas secrets until he rips it away from cole, and cole gasps and says where did it go? This is party banter while wandering with cole and solas after the breakup

I chose the option to tell him she loved him and the way she reaches out to touch him and he doesn’t allow her to just breaks my heart. It must be awful to love someone, know they love you back but you can’t be with the person.
I love how even if you break up with him before he does, his face still drops and he still shakes his head as you tell him. It would work in his favour, but it hurts him all the same. Sad, treacherous egg needs a hug.
I know the games been out for a while, but I've never been able to complete a romance with solas knowing he leaves me. I actually felt like someone broke up with me when alister dumped my elven mage in origins. I'm interested though so I'll do another play through. Wish me luck!

I think it was said in an interview or something that during this scene he first almost told everything (he wasn't planning on taking away her Vallaslin, but telling her that he was Fen'Harel), than almost gave up his whole plan to be with the Inquisitor - he just realised that he would be giving up himself if he did, so he broke the relationship instead.
In that exact moment he was going to reveal to her that he is the dread wolf, but he feared how she would react. In the end he decided to break up with her because his love for her was something he feared would get in the way of his goal to tear down the veil. So yes u are right 💅🏽💗🌸✨💖

I really wish that more characters had commented on the romance. Like there was only almost 2 minutes of party banter compared to others. Viv and sera are the only ones (pre trespasser) that make a comment about the romance outside the party banter.
I've seen quite a few people say that they didn't like this scene because they felt he was pressuring her to remove the vallaslin unfairly or guilt-tripping her into getting rid of it by offering the removal as a gift. I always saw it as the TRUTH being the gift he offers, and him asking if she wants to remove the markings is just him giving the Inky an opportunity to actually do something with the truth he gave, no matter what option you pick. I feel this is more obvious once you learn he wanted to tell the Inky that he was Fen’Harel and not offer to remove the vallaslin at all, but even still.
Oh he definitely doesn't pressure her. Not only as you said he meant to reveal the truth about himself, and chickened out at the last moment - you can see how his eyes shift focus just before, such suble but beautiful animation. But also if Lavellan decides to not remove the vallaslin, and tries to excuse herself, fearing he won't accept her, he says "Stop. You are perfect exactly as you are."

I decided to keep the vallaslin my first playthrough and was lowkey worried he'd be upset with me but then he reassured my Inky and I felt better too PAHAHA There's also a conversation with Cole if you keep the vallalsin where he mentions that "she thinks it's why you walked away" (this comment happens with or without removing it by the way, there's just some changed dialogue) and by Solas's reaction (and our meta knowledge) its clear that's not why. So he clearly isn't angry that you decide to keep it- there's no approval drops and nothing he says ever comes across that way. And I'd imagine someone trying to manipulate you would be angry if it didn't work or would bring it up again or something.
I made all the sad and loving choices... even though it's been years since the release of the game... I finally worked up the nerve to complete Solas romance.. and it's been hard since I knew how it ended... it's even harder doing it.. poor Solas... he's kind of like Abelas to a degree he's holding on to the past and doesn't wanna change nor let go... and he's put up walls and your over here with a wrecking ball breaking them all down.. and he knows if he let's it continue it would be even harder for him to walk away and leave... because hurting you is the last thing he wanted... you became important to him something he couldn't let happen and yet he did knowing it would always end this way...

Man I really made a mistake by picking the deep voiced Qunari as my main character. This voice actor is way better. My character sounds like a real goofball when flirting with Cassandra.
+Heather Kilsheimer I think it was an update for the next-gen and PC versions of the game. It unlocked the wardrobe in the Inquisitor's room, which allows you to change the clothing the Inquisitor wears around Skyhold, as well as the formal wear for the Winter Palace bit. It's not in the 360 or PS3 versions, though.
I have never played as an elf, only qunari, how do you get this scene? Or rather how do you get him back after this, or is this just before trespasser starts? Cause in my playthrough of solas romance I would rather avoid this scene
I think that Solas not being Bisexual is one big idiotic thing. Like, really!? He is a guy from gazillions of years ago, from another culture, lived among spirits (maybe even had an affair with some as it is said in some banter with Blackwall) and he is heterosexual. UURGG I mean, ok, date only Elves, but Bioware lost an opportunity for making it painful to date Solas for both women and men alike.
They said they made him heterosexual only because they didn’t want him to be a stereotype in a bad way (aka they didn’t want assholes trying to make fun of him outside of “I am egg man”) I saw someone made a mod that they were a male elf and romancing him, it probably just tricks the game into thinking their character is female meanwhile they had the voice/appearance of a male elf. I don’t know the name(s) of the life tho, but I remember seeing the video on TH-cam so maybe you can look it up and see if they put the mod in their description?

I have never played as an elf, only qunari, how do you get this scene? Or rather how do you get him back after this, or is this just before trespasser starts? Cause in my playthrough of solas romance I would rather avoid this scene

I think that Solas not being Bisexual is one big idiotic thing. Like, really!? He is a guy from gazillions of years ago, from another culture, lived among spirits (maybe even had an affair with some as it is said in some banter with Blackwall) and he is heterosexual.
UURGG I mean, ok, date only Elves, but Bioware lost an opportunity for making it painful to date Solas for both women and men alike.
They said they made him heterosexual only because they didn’t want him to be a stereotype in a bad way (aka they didn’t want assholes trying to make fun of him outside of “I am egg man”) I saw someone made a mod that they were a male elf and romancing him, it probably just tricks the game into thinking their character is female meanwhile they had the voice/appearance of a male elf. I don’t know the name(s) of the life tho, but I remember seeing the video on TH-cam so maybe you can look it up and see if they put the mod in their description?
