    Years of playing with electronics, building amplifiers... A lot of splicing, & I never thought of soldering wires that way. Love it! Just for the video or not. I think I'm pissed at you for not telling me earlier.

    Very useful thanks! I'm really struggling with soldering and when I managed to solder 2 RCA connectors to shorten an audio cable after 45 minutes that was a major victory! My aim is to make my TV/Audio cabinet as tidy as possible by using cables at the exact size. So lots of cutting and soldering in perspective. The tips in this video should make the task easier ... hopefully!

    Thanks for this. Funny that I was looking for information about shortening a usb cable because I'm in the exact same situation you were here. Project involving a raspberry pi and a custom designed case I 3D printed. Exactly what I needed.

    If you stagger the splices the finished splice is slimmer and less likely to short.

      Yep, that's how I do it.

      And if you can find some thin thin thin aluminum foil, wrap it around before you shrink the jacket.

    Hi there! Not exactly the same topic however I wondered if one could splice a usb cord with a lamp wire or even add it directly to a lightbulb socket to be able to power an LED bulb?

    My dash cam mini usb wire has only two colours. Black and white.
    When I spliced Black with Black and White with Red to another data USB cable to get a power extension, it only gives a flickering screen. (Did not test it for volt. USB data has green, red, grey and white)
    What is the case when power USB wire has only Black and White wire as explained above? Thanks in advance.

      If you only had the two, white and black I would black (mini) to red, white (mini) to black, but sounds like a cheap cable, if you need to modify a mini, get a good standard mini and go from there, what do they cost a dollar even with Bidenomics, I wouldn't mess with a custom, but when I say a good, I mean full range mini.

    Hi, I have a USB cable that I want to replace its connector to USB Type C. My Connecor has 4 pins like the usual, but the cable came with 5 cables, red, black, green, white, and blue. The cable was direcly soldered into a keyboard board and the blue one goes to S (Shield). Now If i want to connect the cable to a USB C connector, where should I connect the shield to? Is it to the connector feet that connects to the metal body? Thank you

    I would cut away the aluminum braid and just splice the copper shield lead.

    can u splice it and twist it and use electrical tape to put it back instead of soldering? thx

    • @hull_k0gan641
      @hull_k0gan641 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sure. Connection will likely be garbage though.

    • @red2965
      @red2965 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Makes a better connection if to soldier it. The glue on tape tends to make a mess of things in the long run.
      Heat shrink is the way to go for low voltage wiring.

    So I thought the metal shielding was just a protective layer, is it actually supposed to be conductive?

    • @viperflyer
      @viperflyer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. Shielding is there to reduce interfering electro-magnetic noise. You just rewrap it around all the wires, mainly 2 data cables.

    • @mn12sc35th
      @mn12sc35th 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's usually grounded somewhere in order to send unwanted interference back to ground.

    “That’s what she said?” I had respect for you UP TO YOU said one the top 10 most ignorant comments ever coined lol!
    That phrase is decades old, and wasn’t fun then; much less now.
    Grow up, and try to employ actual HUMOR instead of continuing to spread the ignorance.
