TIP: before yanking out the inner strands of the paracord, tie 1 of them to the end of the wire you’re about to put thru the paracord shell. Electricians do this with wires all the time. When you pull the strands out, your wire will be pulled in. Simple.
I literally just finished my first coiled Keyboard cable using your other guide/video yesterday 😄 Now I’ll fix my old lightning cable that I use in my car
Love it. Only thing I see is with the excessive amount of solder used on each cup, you should have each wire have heat shrink covering each exposed joint so you don’t get an ark inside your connector. Love the outcome though. Looks great! Other thing I noticed, you weren’t using any flux. You had flux core wire, but every time you reflowed, you needed more flux. Plus having flux when you were tinning your wires would have made the process go so much smoother and no solder spikes. Alcohol cleans everything just fine. Acetone can degrade the pvc pretty dramatically also.
Two Lil tip 1. when yah soldering, flux helps a lot with the solder flow 2. for your helping hand you could use kapton tape as it's has a big heat resistance and won't burn if you accidentally touch it with your hot iron Otherwise neat and soothing DIY video
Is there a reduction in electric current after plugging in the connector?is there a reduction in electric current after plugging the connector which makes charging slow down?
I Waste my 18 minutes of my life in this video... I mean you can still add more insulation in the whole wire... I didn't understand why you cut the perfectly fine cord... I KNOW YOU WILL DELETE THIS COMMENT..
Dude never knew the markings on shrink tube can go away with aceton nice one for my next fixings also that interchangeable xlr is neat you could do 1 usb c and other connectors and have a set to change on 1 usb cable
I don't know how long this process will take. The cheapest USB to lightning cable is NZ$7.99 for 1 m in New Zealand. The minimum wage is NZ$21.20. Therefore, if you cannot finish the process within 20 minutes, it is just not worth it.
So relaxing... Before I go sleep tho, question of the century How could one repaint the heatshrink? (primary colors are easy to find but more decorative ones are not, let's say one wants some very specific color, how could they get it?)
Fyi watch at 2x speed and it’s still very watchable, music still works and it turns into a 9 minute video…. (I’m thinking he did maybe did this on purpose LOL… it’s actually really cool!)
That cable cord may last forever..honestly, i love that is is better for the environment, saves money. And, let's people like Apple know we don't have to keep spending.
I wonder this is standard XLR connector for audio? Using USB to XLR don't cut off certain frequencies? And wasn't it be better to use XLR to jack? USB is not using full connectivity so it is in my opinion overpaid if you gonna use new cable. If i wrong please let me know
hey FIZO could you please make a video on how to make an iphone cord that has audio, data and charging? i want to make a connector that i can charge, listen to music and read a lightning USB stick.
My USB C cable has 5 wires (big pink, big black and tiny white, red and green )and my iPhone USB cables have 4 wires (red, black, white, and green)is it possible to work?
Would wire be a good material to sleeve to be able to bend and have it stay in place and then bend it back to any position and have it stay in place? or do they sell braided rope with material inside that is like that?
So, for a few dollars and dealing with a heavy connector in the cord, you have a working power cable that will probably outlast a new Apple cord...but it's a lot of work and skill required to solder such small wires. I just bought 10 2M cables from Aliexpress for $10 but I have to wait a few weeks for the new cords...but they do not have a heavy connector in them.
Disassembling that lightning jack pretty much destroys it… most times frayed ends only work if bent a certain way, requires re-soldering wires on lightning jack.
Iam s9 user my usb cable came with box damaged at END of TYPE C port, after that whenever I connect my mobile, it gives notification check the cable, and the fast charging is not supported, please tell solution for issues like that if possible.. thank you
Its not as flexible as stock, specially with the PET sleeves, it become more springy. Perhaps if you are after flexibility, I would suggest just using the Paracord sheath.
Funny fact you have to remember people to pass the casing first through the wire, cause we all know it but still we all have forgotten it once or twice.
I bought the assorted heat shrink tube for this build, unfortunately, they did not label the diameter of each heat shrink tube. Anyway, on my custom USB cable from scratch video I use a 12mm (3:1) heat shrink tube on the USB type A end and then 8mm on the USB type C end.
Use should use lead solder this time when you solder wires and connectors and please make a video on making a braided type c to lightning and also a braided type c to type c and use YC8 Connectors next time they are smaller in size and try to join Reddit on the mechanical keyboard community
If you know how to put together a usb c and a why buy a new cable? Just use the old and solder what you need together nicely done saving $ in the process
Thanks for the feedback, can you give me tips on how to improve the soldering? As for the Mini XLR, it has it purpose, which I'll show on my future video. :)
It's interesting, but for a few notes. 1) I worked for a while in an IPhone/iPad call center. Of the 50 agents, only one owned an iPhone. We all knew how clumsy, expensive and stupid Apple products are. Three iOS updates and angry customers cured me forever from Apple Malaria. The Lightning Connector is the ultimate stupidity of the Apple line. 2) What is this "keyboard community" about? Screwing up a working USB keyboard connector with MilSpec metal connectors is pointless, unless your computing life is mixed with a fantasy about helping the Autobots fight the Deceptions. I compute in the real world, not in fanfic. 3) I liked the idea of using Paracord to strengthen a cable, but you didn't make it clear that the outer purple sheath was ALSO Paracord! For a moment, I thought this was some expensive junk you had to pay our Chinese Overlords a fortune for, with a three month wait for delivery.
I Waste my 18 minutes of my life in this video... I mean you can still add more insulation in the whole wire... I didn't understand why you cut the perfectly fine cord... I KNOW YOU WILL DELETE THIS COMMENT..
If people looked after their cables better they wouldn’t need to replace them so often. Gregorio, it’s hard to get heatshrink that will fit over the connector and still shrink down to grip the cable tightly. I hope you got your 18 minutes back.
I have watched the full video and read all comments, and after having spent half an hour, i still dont understand the use case or why you would want to do this. Are all your videos like this? The viewer needs to spend an hour and still dont understand anything? I predict you will get lot more views if you explain somewhere early, what problem you solve and what your solution offers. Now it is not clear. I want my half hour back. Not clearly stated what your video gives the viewer. Bad video.

Wow, that's a 3000 IQ thing
Can confirm as an electrician, I call it “back fishing”
audio engineer here ... definitely something we also do. PS: fishing a coiled cable is a nightmare tho! any tips on doing this?
That was honestly one of the best videos I've ever watched. The music is perfect.

This guy needs to do a full setup video. Just from the bits and pieces in the video, I can tell its dope.
Keyboard looking dope aswell..😁

wow, mini XLR...
good jobs on doing those custom lightning cable..
looks so though now, very inspiring..
great fine tools that you have....
well done, well filmed, well presented and nice music. That's a sub for me :)
Much appreciated!

Awesome ambient music! Great video, thanks
I know I'll never do it but I watched the whole video and I loved it
Nice video with timestamps and good music! Well presented!
Great content! Your videos are amazing and very detailed. Will try any of the builds soon, thanks!

I don’t see a link to buy a busted up ol’ Lightning cable in the description 🤣
Nyahahaha!!!
You don't need a link, just search "Apple brand lightning cable", that's as 'busted' as you need :D
I love how you've did it! Perfect!!! Could you please give links to solder wire and solder flux you're using?

dude, your video are so high quality
what mouse pad is that ?
I got these mousepad from (shopee.ph/mdcustommousepad) although I think shopee.ph only delivers in the Philippines.
@@FIZOdigital thanks !
Fantastic video! Do you think the paracord would go over the lightning end without cutting the cord? To customize a plain cord.
Yes
very detailed shoot im going to buy the parts i needed thanks

nice!!!! what is your mouse/keyboard pad??
I'm using Xtrfy M4 mouse, as for the deskpad, I got it from a local ecom store (shopee.ph), but I think they only delivery in the Philippines.
is there a way to make something similar without the mini xlr? great vid btw
Solder the 2 end back together?
If you add another layer of insulation cable becomes stiff. Sockets doesn't like that; they will worn out sooner.
What size of heat shrink tube is used here plz tell in mm ?
Great vids, would recommend some more uplifting music
I dunno, I kinda like it
Im so impressed
The only concern that i have is weight of the thing. Is it even still comfortable to use? Also what about flexability?
Its not as flexible as stock, specially with the PET sleeves, it become more springy. Perhaps if you are after flexibility, I would suggest just using the Paracord sheath.
Hi do you use flux to solder with or no
How do you do this without a mini xlr?
Great video !
Will a 4pin gx12 work with it?
Anyone that tried this with fast charging, does this affect the speed and will it last long
What size on both sleeves?
Am I the only one who wanted to sleep to the music?
Hahaha!!! It's tagged as soothing music on Epidemic sound, so I guess it would also work in putting people to sleep. :P
Funny fact you have to remember people to pass the casing first through the wire, cause we all know it but still we all have forgotten it once or twice.
Nice video but why not just use USB connectors then you could have multiple ends to plug in to charge different things and the USB's are real cheap
Can you tell me about the diameter of the shrink tube, that would be helpful thanks

I tried making a universal OTG like the way you made that cable but for some reason it didn't worked, maybe the build had high resistance .
What's the purpose of the mini xlr connector in the cable?
looks cool, that's it.
Stay tune, you'll see its purpose on one of my future videos. :)
If you know how to put together a usb c and a why buy a new cable? Just use the old and solder what you need together nicely done saving $ in the process
size of your right shift button ????
I believe it's 1.75U. :)
damn, a day late. I destroyed 6 mini xlr connectors because of bad soldering job...
I want one!
Do you sell it?
So basically you just reconditioned your cable. Now it has the option to alternately charge your keyboard and an apple device.
Yes. :)
Can I ask…. Why???
Can u make usb pd cable
Oh god, please..... double sleeving and no soldering skills.Add to that a bulky xlr connector.....
