      I like how the bad lander is not as big as some of the other Mesa heads. You have to move them eventually.

      If you are re-amping after, are you using something like a neural plug in as a reference tone when you track the original di’s? Just wondering if you ever feel conflicted after getting a killer plug in tone. Do you chase that tone on the real amp or do you start fresh on the amp eq and forget your original scratch tone?

    • @12breacher82
      @12breacher82 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This rhythm tone is practically perfect to me. I much much prefer the looser, almost out of control roar and fatness to it than ultra tight stuff (which has it’s place as stated). The SLO 30 demo you did sold me on that amp for the same reason; 90’s chunk all day! I’d definitely love to find a Badlander someday too, and blend them. Thanks for sharing this. Goes to show how simple rigs can sound amazing!

  • @andy_stinson
    @andy_stinson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    I love how the Badlander keeps the Rectofier identity, but overall just polishes everything up and makes it a little tighter

  • @disco4535
    @disco4535 3 ปีที่แล้ว +62

    I loved the tone on the album. Like Ola mentioned, a lot of metal now has such a tight, choppy, clinical, almost sterile kind of guitar tone (really it's not even just guitar tone, it's modern recording and mastering in general that sounds too "prefect", and doesn't have that organic authentic feel/sound) . The tone on Starzinger really stands out in my opinion.

    • @sleepymarauder4178
      @sleepymarauder4178 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The tone feels like a savage, wild, untamed beast that just did coke for the first time.

    • @AJPMUSIC_OFFICIAL

      Old school guitar tones with modern drum production is the sweet spot for me. I know its not cool to like modern stuff but drums are always the first things to age on an album

    • @jarrusjenkins
      @jarrusjenkins 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah, it's kind of why I've gravitated towards the Marshall DSL, JVM and the Orange Rockerverb... they're much less clinical than Mesa or a 5150 (not that I hate them... not at all, I love them)
      I agree, metal sounds are becoming more clinical but I also suspect that's also because a lot of metal genres are becoming more technical (and the mega low tunings) and you need the clarity to be able to hear it all.
      Just my opinion :)

    • @AJPMUSIC_OFFICIAL
      @AJPMUSIC_OFFICIAL 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jarrusjenkins I think the original Dual Recs are a lot more versatile than people give them credit for. I love the Triaxis for the range of tones you can get and I love rack set ups. Would be nice to have a go on the JP2C after hearing Ola's.
      I agree with what you say about the clarity issue. There will be another step forward in production in the near future. Watchtower were an early prog metal band and their early albums have that late 80s deathmetal sound because thats the only way they knew how to produce stuff like that at the time. Look at the jump from Mindcrime to Images and Words. New stuff will occur and everyone will copy it

    I love the sound of the Badlander! It has the typical dry distortion of a recto but with less flubbyness and fizz. I would love to hear a comparison between a Badlander and a PRS Archon 100. They are probably some of the best metal amps that have been released in the last decade.

    The Badlander amps have so many great features, you can plug one directly into a computer and have many different cab sim options for many different tones, you can use it with pedals, you could switch the amount of watts you use with it, and you can use it with headphones. My favourite version of the Badlander is the Badlander 50 which I have.

      @@OlaEnglund Did you do a vid of a Klon style OD? I may have missed it if you did. I love the EHX Soul Food as an example.
