What a interesting / vulnerable side of Tom you don't normally see, compared to a pure comedic interview. Great job Neal!
The HoneyDew is another good one to see comedians vulnerable sides. Tom was on there but I can't remember how vulnerable he was. Still a good watch

Really enjoying self-aware Tom. You can tell as much as he plays at being "pretentious rich guy" he's still that humble chubby kid from the first special.
I had been winding down my attention I'd been giving him and ymh because the pretentious was just starting to grate on me.. This is seemingly no facade, which i appreciate. Burt has been acting more tolerable lately too... and Bobby Lee... Huh... they are all grounding at the same time or something

Dude, Tom explained being overweight EXACTLY how it is. I've been overweight the majority of my life and it's a life long battle. Lost 80lbs years ago and gained it all back and then some. Currently losing weight again. Down 60lbs so far. I got about 100lbs, maybe a little more, to go but I am in that good place mentally now. It's great hearing that stuff from someone else and knowing they go through and think the exact same thing as you. Great talk

I've struggled with this for a long time as well and I felt the exact same way while watching this! So much so that I immediately clipped it and sent it to my therapist for us to discuss next week, haha. Super happy to hear you're on track right now brother! Keep it up. You're not alone!
Right at the start of the COVID lockdowns I got incredibly sick. It wound up being a brain tumor that was making my brain crush itself. The sheer frailty and vulnerability I felt at moments like getting showered by my dad was astounding. I'm legally blind now, but I tackle the day with a different angle as well. So Tom is right about that whole 'almost dying' thing, it really forces a bit of change.
Every episode I'm wondering why Neal hasn't been hosting interview shows for years now. Such a great show every time
I’ve told anyone who would listen that Tom is my favorite comedian for about a decade now. But through podcasts like this, you get to realize what an awesome dude he is. Feels like being a fan of his means an endless commitment to bits (especially in a comment section) but I really appreciate how he showed up willing to be super vulnerable and authentic. The work on himself shows, and as someone who grew up with a narcissistic, emotionally out of control parent, who has tried most of his life to not feel things, I really appreciated the reinforcement to stop trying to numb or avoid feelings with this or that. Another great episode Neal.

What a great episode! There's such a big difference between when a guest actually comes prepared to speak about their blocks and a guest who seemingly just agreed to do a podcast and simply showed up.

My favorite episode yet. Neil is an amazing interviewer. And Tom is way deeper than I thought. It’s pretty crazy how a “tragic” accident can change your whole life. Good stuff.
My plan was to play this in the background while I did other things today - needless to say this episode locked me in and I thought it was a real learning tool.
Neal’s interviewing skill were really on full display here. That and the format itself allowed Tom to be open and vulnerable to an extent that I’ve never seen in the 8 or so years I’ve been following him.

This was a really great episode! I’m a huge YMH fan so it was really cool to see and hear a different side of Tom. It was great conversations through out the entire thing. Tom is one my favorite comedians and so crazy that it seems that I can identify with so many of the same "Blocks". Not all of this carries across in his day to day stand up and content. Seeing the little door into his life and himself in a more open way is very cool and a privilege. Again Neal does a great job, amazing podcast!

I LOVE the editing on these podcasts. Seriously the best editing of any podcast I've seen. It's so nice to just get a quick visual on all the obscure references and callbacks that come up so I don't feel the need to google it and I can just stay focused on what they're saying.
Gained a bunch of weight since a break up last year. This eating / weight discussion is something I need to listen to a few times.
It's so fascinating to hear two men who have really done a lot of work to become self-aware & in touch with their needs & emotions, discussing how & why they got there. Unfortunately a lot of the men in my life are stuck in the notion that they have to be the "strong, silent type", while being unable to see how their dysfunction affects all their interpersonal relationships- so it's really novel & refreshing to see. One of the most interesting podcasts I've ever watched.
I really appreciate the deep vibes of this podcast. There's so much to every person that rarely ever gets talked about, and here you are doing that. Ive aways enjoyed your appearances on Rogan for this exact reason, thanks for making another great podcast

I loved this episode. So personal but so universal. I listen every one of them and it is the best so far. Good questions and thoughtful answers.
The section about Tom's mom gaslighting him and always feeling crazy and going "is anyone else seeing this?" I felt so relieved knowing its not just my mom making me feel crazy. My mom is Ecuadorean, maybe its a cultural thing.
I was thinking the same thing in that moment too. I'm a brit and my mom's side of the family are of Irish Catholic descent, so it's definitely not just south American mothers. 🙂👍🏻

My parents were both narcissists. My sister and I both learned to have a "narrow bandwidth" because if we were too up it would annoy/threaten our parents (e.g. they would be jealous) and if we were too down it would annoy/threaten our parents (e.g. that might bum them out). They were the ones who got to have feelings.

After watching a few of Neal's podcasts I can't help but feel that people in comedy are the most psychologically impaired people on the planet. I am not saying this as a pejorative just as an observation. I used to think Rock stars were but sheesh these folks in comedy, by themselves, can keep therapists rolling in dough for quite a long time.

In a very serious note- this was a incredibly vulnerable side of Tom I don’t think many of us have ever seen. We watched him lose his father and he didn’t express this much personal feeling. Shout out to Tim for making the important changes.

the yin and yang of two bears is unreal. Tom is so emotionally intelligent. And extremely likeable, Bert needs to go to rehab and be a good father.
I feel that Bert is probably a great father, so giving and open, but also just constantly embarrassing. I guess it must be tough learning so early on that adults are still just figuring it out.

This was one of the most exciting and introspective podcasts I've seen in a while. Of course there are tons of "introspective" podcasts but so many of them are cheesy or impractical and romanticize fluffy euphemisms as profound dogma.

Neal has to be one of my favorite people. I love comedy and some of my favorite comedians don't include Neal but he's still behind some of my favorite comedy ever, show, movie, etc.
Also, he worked with Dave Chappelle. Come on. Legend. Both of them. And then there's his awareness and openness which I rarely find in people. I myself consider myself to be very open mentally. I try to keep an open mind but I'm aware of my life long issues with anger and depression alongside anxiety. It changes how I am with people. I will forever have anxiety 24/7 but as someone who never took meds for it, as it didn't exist when I was a kid (anxiety didn't exist I mean lol. Nobody really knew anyway). And anxiety is a normal feeling but I mean, I am constantly overthinking how I look to every single person or in public even if nobody is around. I'm always looking everywhere as I grew up seeing people get robbed, pickpocketed, confronted and beat up, everything. So I stay on my toes. Anyone can come out with a knife and rob me. So I gotta stay awake.
It just comes from my childhood, like everything else. I found out some shit that blew my mind, after my mom died in 2021 due to cancer. I found out my shitty dad never was around even when we left Colombia to enter the US illegally. So me and my mom were smuggled into the US by boat. We had to jump off quickly and pretend to look like people at the beach. Well, my mom had to. I was maybe 1 year old. The idea of loosing all your luggage and starting from 0 while cops are making sure people don't get smuggled into the US. In that moment I know my mom was panicking like crazy. I knew her. She had severed anxiety which is passed on. But my upbringing made it worse. My brother turned out fine. But I'm here with ADHD, social anxiety, and severe depression for 10 years (now doing better without meds and just weed). All my life is my mom anxious as fuck pushing me to go out, do things, never stand still, never be lazy. It was annoying growing up. I felt like she didn't care. But she did. And I grew so close to her. She was my mom always, but she became a close friend later in life. I miss her every single day. Any time I remember her, it's bitter sweet. Great funny memories but also sad she's not here, died at 62, was my only parent, did everything to be super healthy all her life and she died from cancer. I was there until her literal final breath as she was sleeping/sedated.
Fuck.... I'm gonna go smoke. Today hasn't been it. I fucking miss her too much. Why did I even rant here. Nobody will read this. I do this a lot. I put my thoughts into comments that I never return to. If you're reading this, thank you for taking the time to read a comment by someone who doesn't make sense half the time. Anyways, much love and respect to everyone. Please do good in this life. It trickles down to others and we all make the world better. Honestly. Peace

Such a great episode, Neal does such a great job interviewing. Asks insightful questions then actually lets the guest answer and actively listens to their response, doesn’t just make it about himself which seems simple and obvious yet is an ability so many podcast hosts seem to lack. Tom’s sincerity and vulnerability was refreshing, he’s a genuinely good person.

That was another great, insightful episode. I've only just got into Tom's stand up work in recent months and it's nice to see his more serious side in this. I can relate to quite a lot of his blocks & it's a bit of an uplifting feeling hearing someone else from another country, culture etc talk about similar life issues, it kinda lightens the burden and takes away some of the pressure you put on to yourself that this is just my BS and nobody else understands. Thanks fellas!
