I'm a psychologist who refers people to this podcast regularly- our narrative is: the people at the top do not suffer like we do and it's not true. You dismantle this untrue narrative by being vulnerable and inviting your at-the-top-of-the world peers, also to be vulnerable -and this makes everyone feel more human - real - and seen! thank you one hundred zillion times for being curative in a crazy corrosive culture.
Neal nailed it when he told Fortune she is basically a bouquet of roses because it's true. I've seen her live a couple of times and met her twice. Every time, I came away feeling lighter. She's human sunshine.
This has fast become one of my very favorite podcasts. 3 Mics and Blocks were some of the most vulnerable, insightful, and relatable pieces of entertainment I can recall. And the content of these interviews is beyond fascinating.
Psych here specialising in neurodevelopmental conditions (ADHD, Autism, etc), and Fortune’s description of “I just don’t hear it” and difficulties multi-tasking on zoom, sound a lot like a lesser known feature of ADHD, which is to do with sensory processing challenges. How you process and integrate sight, sound, taste, touch, body awareness in relation to the physical environment, etc. An occupational therapist can take you through simple tests to figure out the exact nature of your sensory processing challenges and suggest adaptive strategies. Highly recommend it for those diagnosed with ADHD.
I’m obsessed with stand-up comedy, and I attend live shows often. I laugh a lot at every show, but when I saw Fortune in Jacksonville recently, I didn’t just laugh, I got happier. She emits an infectious joy that stays you. ❤
What a great conversation. I've adored Fortune since she stole every scene she played in The Mindy Project and loved hearing your conversation with her. Thanks for doing the show.
Saw Fortune years ago at Oaks Tavern... I left that night, turned to my friend and said, "She's a star." And, so she is. Fun to watch your rise, Fortune!
Neil, I really appreciate this show, humanizing these confusing mindsets we get in. At the time it seems that you're the only one that is experiencing these things. I'm glad you're humanizing these mental blocks.
Just discovered your podcast today. Listened to 4 in a row and this is the best yet. I have found her super funny the few times I have stumbled on her comedy and movie appearances, but now I'm inspired to properly seek her out and pay more attention. What a lovely person!
I’m the youngest of 4, and I was the first one at around 22!to set boundaries in my family. I got the reputation for being mean, or not to be messed with, just because of boundaries…. I wasn’t yelling at them or being all aggressive. I just learned boundaries and everyone else seemed to freak out about it.
Neal was right when he said Fortune is “pleasing”. The way he described her in the beginning is exactly how I feel. I haven’t watched her stand up yet but I’ve watched a few podcasts and she is genuine & likeable. I really adore her & wish her much success.
Fortune is uplifting to hear. I like her podcast with Tom papa on Sirius. I like that Netflix is promoting stand ups. I have learned so many comedians.
Fortune is going to be one of those snowball success stories. I feel like she pops up more and more as the years go by. Very funny comedian, actor and one of the most accessible personalities in Hollywood. Would not suprise me if she gets a lead role in a film. Sooner or later
I love interviews like this! I resonate with Fortune in soo many ways- mom, boundaries, people pleasing, etc. it def took me yrs to work on that stuff and change my ways and it really helps to hear others stories about it. Love Fortune so much!!
I *love* Fortune. Every time I see/hear her voice though the very next thing I hear is Tig's mock shocked voice, "FORTUNE!". Makes me laugh before Fortune even drops her unabashedly truthful stories. Her standup about being on a swim team as a kid was so relatable - my favorite of her jokes.
I eagerly await new eps from a few comedy-related pods, but am behind …just want to say this week, Blocks was the first one I played. And that was a choice. Love Fortune!
I just want you to know that Charlize Theron is exactly who popped into my head as soon as Neal finished the question and before Fortune said her name. The resemblance is actually striking as hell when you look. Nobody else would be as good a choice, and even she would be challenged by getting the eyes right, Fortune's are like stars.
This won't be news to most, I'm sure, but the 'bad at remembering names' thing is usually due to being at either extreme of the esteem scale. Narcissists don't remember because the new person wasn't worth it. But down on my end of the self-esteem arc, we don't remember because the anxiety dialogue of being ourselves and 'judged' by a new person takes up too much RAM.
I’ve always loved Fortune and so happy to see this interview she is delightful to listen to - I’m about to binge listen to her TH-cam’s while I pack ! And Mr. Brennan I’ve been listening to to your podcasts all week!!! Thank you! ❤❤❤
She's so real. And I know how that sounds.. like "real" well I would hope.. she's just soooo funny and unique and genuine... Love it!!! Very honest, maybe it's her accent too ❤❤❤
I just have to say that the very muffled bell sound effect at 51:00 when Fortune mentioned her bad hearing legitimately got a guffaw out of me. Well played.
Fortune: See if you have “Auditory Processing Disorder”. You are not deaf nor have a hearing loss. The fact you can’t echolocate, suggests Auditory Processing Disorder
Fortune's animated life story. Growing up in a small town as a mermaid. Moving to Mertropolis. Becoming a comedian. Think of all the tropes and tie ins. It practically writes itself.
This is my favorite reimagining of "What Every Happened to Baby Jane?" Fortune Feimster is an enlightened Baby Jane who is hanging out with Neil as Blanche who stays in that chair and makes people come to him.
When he talked about cutting to Fortune my immediate thought, and what I thought he was going to say, was that when the camera cuts to Fortune you immediately get a smile...
I feel like what she's describing is a difficulty filtering out ambient/background noises. It isn't about volume, it's about struggling to focus on 1 of the many things you're hearing. And it's bizarrely difficult for some of us!
I can’t tell if you’re leaning into the lack of graphic consistency between episode thumbnails or if you’re still trying to figure it out. Either way it’s working
I really do as well. Such great tempo, considerate questions that actually lead somewhere. It is somehow warm. Even if many subjects talked about, touch on pain, problems, dysfunction. It actually without being dramatic, normalizes that life ain’t that simple and easy. But it can be humor in it at the same time.
Do not think I’ve had such a reoccuring thought like ”Please let this pod get huge listener numbers fast and the person behind it make alot of money off of it NOW” before. Especially thinking of and comparing it to seamingly sort of shallow and a bit dumb ppl/podcasts that are insane cash cows, and so popular. I just want a true gem, ”one of the good ones” climbing to the top. Like sorry, for example I suspect Post Malone or Zayn would come more to their right talking some real sh*t in a considerate and smart way in a conversation here with Neal. Instead of like in that Call her Daddy pod. Which for me in 8 out of 10 cases just come off as glib, surface level and missed opportunities to get something REALLY worth while out of the guests. Instead of like it is here, where I 9 times out of 10 learn something interesting about the guest. And the questions and comfortable vibe actually give nuance to people. Oh and btw, Fortune in this one, lovely vibe comming off of her. Wish her the best.
@@ReginaCioffiYes I did. Liked that pod as well. But was not a must listen for me. This podcast is at a whole other level for me (I get it, the concept of the other one with his friend that he talked with and had banter with, was more pure entertaining talks about current topics or entertainment. The way that one lost me a bit, was that the other person in that pod, for me could not keep up with Neal on many subjects, so it got a bit flat at times for me, she was lovely though). I love his stand up specials as well. Wish there were more of them.
I'm a psychologist who refers people to this podcast regularly- our narrative is: the people at the top do not suffer like we do and it's not true. Fortune is a comic that is truly good for your soul. She deserves everything. Fantastic episode
I wish Neal had let her fully answer her questions. He asks such great questions then cuts her off.
Neal nailed it when he told Fortune she is basically a bouquet of roses because it's true. I've seen her live a couple of times and met her twice. Every time, I came away feeling lighter. She's human sunshine.
Love your words here and couldn't agree more!
Yes..Fortune= Sunshine 🌞🌞✨✨
I hope Fortune really does understand that positive energy she puts out and brings to other people. Always a delight to watch and listen to!
Good Fortune. She reminds me of the kid in Bad Santa.
Fortune has that special light. She is charming and soft quality while being hilarious.
I was having the worst day. This podcast lifted my soul. Thank you. You both brilliant
Fortune is all heart ♥️ She makes me laugh and makes me feel genuinely good. She is a fortune 🥠
So real, so kind, so good. Glad she found love and success, hasn't gone to her head.

Love Fortune! She is so sweet and so funny. I really enjoy watching anything she is on!
Neil, I really appreciate this show, humanizing these confusing mindsets we get in. At the time it seems that you're the only one that is experiencing these things. I'm glad you're humanizing these mental blocks.
Adore, adore Fortune Feimster! How brave to answer your questions, explore the depths of things that challenge and blocks us. So funny too.
There are comics that I love and then there are comics that I love and invest in THEIR happiness. Neal and Fortune are in the later category.
Excellent observation.

Fortune is uplifting to hear. I like her podcast with Tom papa on Sirius. I like that Netflix is promoting stand ups. I have learned so many comedians.
Seriously, Fortune is charming and delightful! Yay!
I saw the tumb nail and literally said fuck yea! I'm ready for this one!

Blocks (the special) was incredible. Love it in podcast format.
Fortune makes me so happy! I cannot wait to see her when she comes to Florida for New Year’s Eve!
I think this is my favorite episode yet... thank you both! this was a really wonderful conversation
Loved this interview so much! ❤❤

Loving this dynamic!!
This interview was well done. I enjoyed learning more about Fortune.

I was already thinking who she reminds my of... it was the voice first, then the laugh.

Always enjoyed Fortune, just made me enjoy her even more with a touch of Neal
The dialogue was excellent.

I'm gay, I play with blocks, this podcast was literally made for me.
I’m not gay but I have a block head. 😅
I loved watching her in Mindy Kaling’s show. Hilarious and heartwarming woman!
Fortune is hilarious and her laugh brings me joy!
I chose this one because she is such a delight! I needed a good boost!
Such a good interviewer.
Saw fortune live in Vancouver , she was beyond incredible. Go see her if she’s near your city !!
I first heard "all comedians have sad moms" from Jim Carrey, not sure if it was originally from him though.
She's so real. And I know how that sounds.. like "real" well I would hope.. she's just soooo funny and unique and genuine... Love it!!! Very honest, maybe it's her accent too ❤❤❤
She has great skin, good interview.
I can watch Fortune with my 11yo and we both laugh our butts off. ☺ I love me some Fortune! Keep those specials coming!
I would LOVE Anthony Jeselnik here! I am so curious about his blocks.
I just found this podcast because I love Fortune. I love her even more now and I just subscribed...
“Energetic roses” 💯💯💯
Oh my goodness thank you.
You were the BEST thing about Fubar!
Seeing FF as Huckabee Sanders on Chelsea's show was amazing
Fortune is infinitely likeable...
I noticed Morgan Murphy in the pic with Jeselnik. You should have her on.
Loved and miss Pedro. Seems like he was a great human!
I saw her live, she was hilarious
I will definitely try that name remembering trick, THANK YOU!!!
love Fortune!! Great discussion ❤🇨🇦
Fortune is delightful! Yay!
Loved Fortune in FUBAR. Her and Travis Van Winkle's character had great chemistry as best friends.
Your story IS the little mermaid - there has to be more, I love it!
The hearing sounds like auditory processing common with ADD versus actual hearing ability.
Fortune's animated life story. Growing up in a small town as a mermaid. Moving to Mertropolis. Becoming a comedian.
Think of all the tropes and tie ins. It practically writes itself.
I'm ready for this movie
This is my favorite reimagining of "What Every Happened to Baby Jane?" Fortune Feimster is an enlightened Baby Jane who is hanging out with Neil as Blanche who stays in that chair and makes people come to him.

Love your podcast and love Fortune so much!
Does anyone know the song in the outro??? Can’t find it with Shazam.
I would love to see a Fortune biopic starring Kathy Bates and her
Starring Fortune as fortune
Such a nice person. I just love her!❤
I can’t tell if you’re leaning into the lack of graphic consistency between episode thumbnails or if you’re still trying to figure it out. Either way it’s working
My new favorite podcast! Thank you for addressing mental health topics with my favorite people. This is great!
YES. This is amazing. Fortune is just so funny.
Lol
From now on, anyone new to my city….”so u move here to be gay?”
😂😂😂
I love this damn podcast❤❤❤❤❤❤

She was memorable in Life in Pieces.
Neal, how've you not had the King of Greek Diners our boy Stavros Halkias on the pod??? ...still waiting on the Gaffigan episode as well.

She talked about working with him and she loved him! I will watch it!
@@arribaficationwineho32 yes so fun!
Neal is the best enabler in the game lol.
She is lovely.
Damn you got a good channel. Haven’t watched this one yet but I know she’s hilarious.
