Sailing at Lake Victoria - Catching Hyacinth

  • Sunny days are perfect for sailing, but they're also great for harvesting water hyacinth weeds at Dunga Beach in Kisumu County.
    These weeds will be used as cooking fuel for around 50 households that use the domestic #flexibiogas system.
    Harvesting the water hyacinth is easy, and there's plenty of it. This is changing the mindset of the community, who previously viewed the weed as a menace. Now, they're turning it into a clean cooking resource.

      we harvest about 1 ton of the hyacinth per day that will produce about 40-50,000 litres of biogas daily.
