Their designs are cool. Justifying the higher price compared to other brands by saying the price is higher because of their digital experience and packaging materials is a no-go for me.
I'd rather have the same knife in a crappy package and pay less for it.
I don't value their online presence so much that I can justify paying a higher price for the knife.

@@claytonthecountryboy3272 I’ve said the same thing elsewhere, as I’m a huge Chaves fan and have 12 of his Reate made knives. But it’s not exactly, because the Chaves is full titanium with Ti or G10 show sides, while except for the titanium pocket clip the Kline is all steel, for $50-$60 _more_. It is Magnacut instead of M390 though. A closer comparison to the Kline is the always unavailable ProTech Mordax which was $120 less than the Kline when it was available.

Definitely going in the right direction but still missing the mark. You guys have a poor reputation in the knife community right now but still have high prices. Additionally in the beginning ryan says they aren’t competing against companies like benchmade and you guys are targeting entry level knife enthusiasts. How are you going to charge 350 with that target audience? How are you going to charge more than companies that offer far more than you? You can’t say this knife is different because it’s made in the US either. You guys have outsourced knives to China and charged the same if not more than your US made competitors. If your packaging is more expensive than others finished products you should seriously consider making some changes. Knives are tools. It’s packaging serves no utilitarian purpose after it arrives in the mail.

This is a great design along with the materials. I could be wrong but I assume this is made by Millet and it reminds me of the Drop Perpetua (made by Millet) except the price is 3.5 times more. Of course Magnacut is likely more costly across the board than Nitro V, micarta is a bit more than G10, but I’m guessing all the small details and the packaging he mentioned drive the price way up. I understand his vision of the brand and the overall experience that he’s trying to include with the products but if they’d make a “sister” brand called Jim where it was simply a barebones version of their offerings without the ultra fine details like enamel in the engravings etc, just use super simple packaging but with the same performance at a much more inclusive price, then I think you would see this in the hands of a lot more people. That would also probably include many of the folks he envisioned carrying James Brand but who instead carry something like a Benchmade because that’s what they know and maybe aren’t willing to take the chance on James Brand simply because of the pretty significant price difference. With all that said though, it appears to be a well thought out design that’s executed well and I will always applaud using US manufacturing!

You know, I _really_ want to like this knife. I love the big hollow ground Magnacut blade. But if the steel frame were titanium it’s priced $60 too high, and for the steel frame that it is it’s priced $120 too high. I don’t care about the money you choose to drop on advertising or packaging, which frankly is a ridiculous reason to charge such a premium. Wrap it in Saran Wrap for all I care; packaging goes in the closet, the knife goes in my pocket then to a Spyderpac or Pelican case after a few days. The packaging is only kept in case I sell it. Ramon Chaves / Reate does a damned nice box with extra clip for $325 and that’s full titanium. You want $60 more than that for cheaper materials, with only the clip being Ti.
Keep these materials if you want, and make more models like this then lower the price and I’m there.

I don’t really care what this guy thinks about his knives. You should focus on the knife and its features so that buyers can make an informed choice. I’m not gonna go so far to unsubscribe, but definitely will start screening you guys more carefully

I’m really glad I got to see this interview, because I had always gotten the exact wrong impression from their marketing. I thought James Brand was got hipsters, by hipsters. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I was strongly considering getting an Elko for a good friend who is practical but likes to stay modest.

The fact any company uses anything but MagnaCut is baffling. It’s BY FAR the best steel for knives period. It’s basically maxamet that won’t chip.
