    Nostalgia elicits soulful reflection and watching a golfing hero like Seve Ballesteros win the Open at St. Andrews, in Seve like style, after all these years makes it hard to believe that he is gone. Anyone who knows anything about golf cannot deny how truly great and special he was. It seems a shame for few that they get old and pass away. Seve is one of those few. RIP great man. I am thankful that I was lucky enough to have watched you while you were in your prime.

    Unfortunately my old man just failed to qualify for this British Open. We flew to Scotland for his qualifying round, from Kenya, and after he missed out, we followed Ian Baker Finch around, for a couple of days, it was great. On the last day we pretty much sat at the 17th hole. It was so awesome watching all my idles, I was 12 at the time. I met Bernard Langer at the Pringle Tent, he was cool. I ran on to the course with a couple of other kids to get Seve Ballesteros autograph and his caddy told us to piss off! 😂 That was on Wednesday, when were encouraged to do that. The game was to get a many as we could 😂 we would have been annoying. It was an experience I'll never forget.

  • @ysgol3
    @ysgol3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Tom Watson was top of the American money list in 1984, but he didn't win a Major, indeed he'd never win one again.
    It's very interesting on this longer film to see his poor putting early in the final round, in fact it's the first time I've seen it since it was live in 1984! I reckon this was the early indication of the putting weakness which would cost him so many titles in the years ahead. Everyone focuses on the differing ways Tom and Seve played the last two holes, but I reckon this, even more than in 2009, is the one Watson let get away early in that final round,. at St Andrews too, and to tie Harry Vardon's record.
    I bet that this is the one which deep down most bothers him to this day, though I don't expect the very private Tom Watson to say so - he's never written or authorised an autobiography has he.

Keep in mind how inferior the clubs and balls they were using as compared to the computer fitted modern equipment. It is a big difference. The ball alone is a massive difference. Can you imagine what today's "geometry police" would do to Seve? With their putting lauch monitors and bs. That toe in the air would be "banned". Then there's Isao Aoki. The modern game sports "science" and "tech" for it's own sake or for commercial gain. Much of golf is an art. These players compensated for their idiosyncrasies and most importantly let their evolved biology take care of things .... and they stayed comfortable while doing so .... something few seem to consider now as they try to create robotic players. Ray Floyd had a fantastic short game and was always keen to be "comfortable" over the ball. They had inferior equipment back then and more waywrd golf balls yet they scored just the same. Sports science is fine in the right place and the right time. What's in the players head is far more important than his putting ball launch stats ....
