  • Water neutrality, as an approach, aims to counterbalance the unavoidable water consumption of an activity through various measures. This methodology holds the potential to render an operation 'water neutral' by advocating for the implementation of water-saving technologies, conservation practices, environmental protection measures, wastewater treatment, and providing water access to underserved communities lacking adequate water resources. Essentially, it involves two fundamental aspects: firstly, reducing the water footprint across operations, products, and infrastructure, and secondly, offsetting the residual water footprints to achieve equilibrium in the campus or facility's water balance equation.
The adoption of a water-neutral approach transcends mere compliance; it represents a strategic pivot towards fostering resilience and future readiness within the shipping and ports sector. Embracing sustainability principles, organizations can significantly contribute to forging a more sustainable, equitable, and environmentally conscious global maritime community.
This final workshop serves as the culminating event in a collaborative effort, aimed at presenting the final outcomes of the partnership and deliberating on strategies for the effective implementation of the Water Neutrality initiative at the Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla (DPA). This gathering will provide a platform for stakeholders to engage in substantive discussions, exchange insights, and chart a course toward realizing the vision of water neutrality within the port's operations and surrounding ecosystem. Through collective action and shared commitment, participants will explore pathways to embed sustainability into the core fabric of the maritime domain, fostering a paradigm shift towards a more resilient and responsible future.
