    | Maxim Mikhaylov vs Issei Otake | Russia vs Japan | VNL 2021 | Highlights
    Japan caused major sensation at the 2021 FIVB Men's Volleyball Nations League with a spectacular 3-2 win over defending champions Russia.
    Here's the reaction after the game, from the virtual Mixed Zone:
    Tuomas Sammelvuo (Russia head coach): "We had to close this game. We were leading and controlling the game, that's simple, but we didn't use our opportunities. Japan defend a lot of balls, the ball doesn't hit the floor easily and they have good reception. So if you lose the patience and you get nervous even for two minutes, it ends like this. Also in our attack we had one-by-one situations and even without blocks, but the ball didn't touch the court. It's a game of moments. Two or three minutes and the result might be different, but it's a good lesson."
    Philippe Blain (Japan coach): "I'm proud of our players, because we came here to gain experience. We came here to fight for every point and not only look at the result - just try to increase our level of our standing and they did perfectly - especially defence, coverage. They are shorter than the Russians. Playing against great teams like here let us gain important experience, especially ahead of the Olympic Games. We didn't come here with a specific goal to win. We want to take the maximum experience and win the maximum number of matches and enjoy volleyball, because enjoying volleyball is also important, and that we did tonight."

    • @jandres0402
      @jandres0402 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hochinglai5548 Due to his injury history, I would say it would be smart to have Otake in the line-up instead. If you have watched the first 2 games, Shimizu needs to be subbed out after majority of the first set because I believe he has his limits, and not just because they want the youngsters to have more playing time. In addition, in the Japanese V-league, Shimizu and Otake play for the same team, Panasonic Panthers, it is almost always that Otake needs to be subbed in for Shimizu after a couple of sets then it is Otake who gets to playe the rest of the game.

    • @hochinglai5548

      @@jandres0402 At the same time, I think otsuka also has a high probability to be selected in the final squad. As you can see in the first three games of the vnl, he already proof he can play well in both OP and OH.

    The game was a master class on how speed and defense can overcome size and power, while is not common and h2h Russia is 19-3 against Japan, it is such a joy when this happens.
    Just cant imagine the level of practice they put together to achieve this level of volleyball, a lot of countries that don't have the luxury of having taller players could benefit by playing like this, instead of trying to match the taller teams power vb. *winks at all the pretender teams from NORCECA*

    The attacks of Russian players are over the blocks, I am just in awe of the Japanese players.
    Russia has an average height of 6'6" while Japan has an average height of 6'2" and in volleyball that's everything.

      At the rate Japan are going they might even make the top 4 and get into the semi-finals. I dont think they will be able to beat a full strength Brazil or Poland tho. USA are also stronger then them but The USA team have a tendency to get complacent especially against "weaker" teams so Japan could potentially get a good result against them. Brazil and Poland will probably get the top 2 spots and russia probably the 3rd spot. Meaning that the last place in the semi-finals will be a fight between USA, japan,France and maybe one or 2 teams. Will be really interesting to see who gets the fourth spot in the semi-finals

    Can someone let me know why teams don't put their best players in on this tournament? Is it not important?

      The next tournament is Olympics. So they are mixing up are trying to find the strengths of each individual . Russians had a very good . Only museriskiji is missing probably , mikhaylov replaced kruglov . The libero was fine . They even had volvich who is a giant .
