The predictability of the game's illusions towards the end is honestly one of my favorite things about this game, as it is representative of the player character coming to understand that the seemingly impossible to foresee mind games are really just a matter of you viewing it in the wrong way. By stripping away the spontaneity, you are shown to be in full control of the game, and thus in full control of your own life.
Damn wow didn’t see that but it is strong, you grow , get more in control, come to realise that you need to approach problems that were impossible to solve under many perspectives
what I absolutely love about this game is that it's the type of game that humbles the player, because as soon as you THINK you know what's going on, no you don't.
yes, i absolutely love how the message at the end of the game is just so insightful, impactful, real and meaningful in a game that felt so bizarre and unreal.
it did mean a lot to me to read that message at the end, and it told me something that i needed to know; that every problem has a solution and you just need a different perspective. i was looking for a comment like this

Major respect to that voice actor.
Oh wait, like he did the part with the words out of order. I guess that is more difficult to deliver well and recall your lines but it didn’t even occur to me they may have just had him say things normally and then edit it! That’s neat
imagine if he understood the game lol, it’s fun but when he was trapped in the loop of waking up, and doing the same thing over and over is Like real life, then he was trapped in the halls. with no escape ah well not to be depressing
this has quickly become one of my favorite games of all time. it’s a fun play that manages to subvert every expectation and ends with a beautiful message
Gawd, they nailed that sense of unnerving, comforting familiarity with liminal spaces. I like how when you reach areas of the map that don’t feel right the music stops, and it just leaves you with the faint sound of fluorescent lights and ventilation. I love being in those spaces if I want to left alone or put into situations of transition where it isn’t rushed, but merely suggested, like when your shift is done, but nothing is really going on later at your house or anything. The concept of liminal spaces is very interesting and mysterious and I sometimes seek it out just to give myself a different perspective of the world, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Awesome game
Mark: This is a really cool game about perception Also Mark: *laughs at a "timid jazz pianist"* Edit: where in the fucking shit did you guys come from? This is my most liked comment
All this talk about people being “true fans of markiplier” got me thinking of just how far along mark has come. Very proud of him, very nice Edit: I’m glad my comment became a place for people to reminisce about the markimoo of the past
I'd really like to see the actual map for this game. I wanna see the layout and how they pulled off the things they did. As someone interested in making games, it intrigues me.
I love how when it all started falling apart, Mark kept accidentally stumbling into the developer's intended path like "oh woah, okay, guess we're going here now"
there was a scraped game called F-Stop that was supposed to be portal 2, you had a camera and would take pictures of cubes and use the pictures to place those cubes on the buttons
Thats because this is inspired around F-Stop, the scrapped version of Portal 2, in which you take a photo of objects to make them bigger, smaller or in locations where they would normally not be such as doors
My 2 favorite phrases from portal 1 and 2 The cake is a lie. And YOU'RE THE MORON THEY BUILT TO MAKE ME AN IDIOT!! Don't ask about the last one, I just like it.
What I love about this game is it is incredibly well made. I don't understand coding, but I understand that this can't have been easy to make. I would say what I think the game's message is, but I think it summarizes all of it nicely in the end. I especially love how you go back through all the scenarios you were in as you wake up. And while even this game wasn't Mark proof, not many games are so I'd rate it a solid 10/10.
This is my comfort game now. If I’m stressed, I play this. The ending really hits me every time. I play it just often enough that I forgot the ending lines.
@@wilburlookslikewaldo-2309 I know it's not easy. I hope you have a good support system to help you out in those moments. Nobody should have to deal with that shit alone. I'm gearing up to see a therapist first time, I'm pretty sure I have ADHD... and I'm an adult. Take care of yourself, ok?
i'vr found that this is a very pleasant video to fall asleep to! calm music, no action or sudden chaos, and just overall relaxing vibes. combine that with how much more chill mark has gotten over the years and viola! the perfect lets-play to sleep to :D
To me, this video is my ending to Unus Annus. It tackles the fear that many of us had when it ended, that nothing could ever fill in the whole it left behind, that we have no chance of ever feeling that way again. It's the perfect message after the channel got deleted and I think Mark did that intentionally.
DUDE I KNOW I beat it while watching this video so it really helped but like I didn’t think this game would impact me as much as it did when I first bought it, truly inspiring game. Incredible 💯💯
Ahh yes over an hour long with many correct, incorrect and confusing choices mixed in with fear of losing your mind with a sprinkle of not being able to comprehend what's happening in real time.
This game is an artistic masterpiece. I'm an aspiring dev myself and this is such a big inspiration to me. Theres plot that keeps you engaged, perfectly paced challenges, immersive atmosphere, and a story that really sticks. Not to mention it's about an hour or so long to play on average, but you can memorize and familiarize it until it feels like a second home. Games like these are rare, and I'm glad Mark has caught so many of them on video for people to see.
As another artist (not a game developer, but a worldbuilder nonetheless), I can say with certainty that I completely agree with this. I grew up watching Markiplier, so I've gotten to see a lot of really good games from him. TH-camrs you grow up with are such a funny thing, because there was nothing like them before they existed. You get to watch a person grow as you yourself grow up. Kinda odd but also beautiful I guess
i’m actually crying that game was so good- learned something valuable that i can use in the future. If you haven’t already played it, I highly recommend it! It was difficult at times, spooky at others, but overall a really good game! (I had no idea what i was getting myself into- i thought it was just a cute backrooms-style puzzle game- BUT NO!! It had really good storytelling and a great lesson to be learned! I love being happily suprised..)
It brought me to tears, I needed this and I believe this is a sign for me to start therapy. I appreciate Dr. Glenn Pierce and the whole team working on the game for making me realize I’m not ok. I truly need to work on myself now.
“Hello! My name is Dr. Glenn Pierce, and many years ago, I had a dream. I found myself in a place where I understood that each of us begins as nothing. Where everything I perceived was shaped by seeing it exactly the way I wanted to. Whitespace. But in Whitespace, I also faced the greatest challenge I could imagine: Because with a lifetime of life itself behind me - and all of the weight that it carried... I realized that seeing things the way I wanted to was not as easy as it used to be. You’re well beyond dreaming now, and further out than anyone has ever come back from, but we hope that you won’t get discouraged. After all: If this is a place of pure perspective, isn’t it also a place where a different point of view could make anything possible? Isn’t that why you came here? Hello my name is Dr. Glenn Pierce, and by now you may have realized that all of this has happened exactly the way it was supposed to. You see, everyone who comes to the Institute does so because they feel that they are no longer in control of something important to them. But, more often than not, the problem is not that the problems we face can’t be solved: The problem is that we become so afraid of failure that we refuse to see our problems from a new perspective. And so we do the same things again and again and again. And therein, of course, we find exactly the failure we were looking for. Your life will always be a struggle and you will always have problems. But today, you had the chance to see things differently. Even though it meant facing obstacles that seemed impossible at first, you thought outside the box - and you overcame them. Because you saw things from every angle, you understand them for what they really were. Because you kept moving forward, no matter how far off the path you were told you were headed, or how unexpected it became... You found your way. In a few minutes, you’ll be back in the real world, and some part of you will say that none of this was real: So how could it have meant anything? But - just like the power of perspective itself - it will have been as real as you believed it to be. All you’ve got to do is Wake Up.
I really like the way that this game does horror. there's just some uneasy feeling about it and once you get towards the end of this game you know there has to be some good ol lore behind it. if matpat hasn't done a theory on this game, it's never too late

Awesome game
that's very thought provoking :0
Just curious, but do you mean liminal space? When I searched up laminar, I got more results on air flow and breathing than spatial perception.
