I'm about to get into sand casting. I've done spin casting but I'm at the point where sand casting is so much more appealing. I love the fact that you can set up a cast so quickly and move on to something else. Thank you for the video!
Thanks for the great tutorial. I appreciate that you showed the first try and redo. I tried casting the shell today, first sand cast ever. FIrst pour, I underestimated amount of silver needed, didn;t completely form, so re did, and I'm satisfied with redo. ONe thing I learned is not to push down to hard on shells when trying to make it firm in sand, I broke the first two, but I had lots to practice with. Looking forward to doing some stone in ring casting soon.
thank you for this video. I have been looking for a beginners sand casting tutorial and this is perfect!...i also have a tiny sea urchin i'd like to cast and hope to be able to with your helpful video!
I loved the finished shell. here is an idea to make the thin wall a bit thicker , what about using a few layers of cling film, as cling film is about 0.07 -0.10 thick so you hardly lose any texture/shape/depression and so you can also pull the shell out more easily so with using one or 2 layers of cling film for the outside lay it across the clay/sand and press the shell on top of the film and 2 plus layers for the inside you can gain nearly 1/4 mm thickness Either that or fill the inside with some sort of soft glue like UHU and line the inside to make it thicker, and if the glue needs to be removed from a reusable item then it can be pulled out. UHU is great for making small little molds to :)
Beautiful shell! I have nothing but problems using a jewelers saw. The blades break very easily and they're a real pain in the butt to put them in the saw. It looked like you were pushing fairly hard when you were sawing. Did you use a jewelers saw? Thanks.
Is it possible to add the top sand/clay with the black rod already in place with a bit of wax to stick it to the shell or something, that way you dont have to push a hole through and risk ruining the casting🤔
The problem is that gold needs more than 1000 Celsius to melt. This requires a very special gas burner. Most crucibles cool the gold too quickly, causing the gold to harden before it fills the mold. So it's not that easy to get the right equipment and especially that is not cheap.
Really liked how you put the sprue on the inside, very neat. Thank you
Patsy
Tank very much, for video ❤😊

Hope my videos help :)
Nice job, I need to start practicing. I wanna do a sharks tooth that I found in gold and make it into a necklace.
Good work

I sometimes fill thin objects with jewellers wax to give it extra thickness and strength :) But I have also used a two part glue before as well :)
@@sandcasting_with_kirralea sounds like a good idea, it all about thinking of what can be used, as every person tends to have there own good idea :)

perfect! what metal did you use?
Replace the pencil with a straw! Great video
I love this one! Thinking about casting thin objects, could you do a video on casting coin pendants like a St.Christophers?
Great suggestion!
where did you get your tools? The main ones i'm interested in are the long handled pin and the long black rod you have.
Hi lovely simple concise video; thanks. How about listing the tools you use?
I do have a video where I run through all the tools I use and what for :)
Nice toturial!
just wondering so much is horizontal layout flux or cutout flux which need to hold is easier to use for sand casting?

No. But if you have a drill bit you can hand twist it in place to displace the delft clay without distorting the mold
Nice..let’s go give it a whirl, see if I can sell some in Cornwall...
Go for it! :D
Ji you are butiful artist and gold simit like the soni indian ilikeyou
2:43 couldnt u remove sand from this side to make it thicker to leave details same on the nice side your talking about

I like to use LPG and oxygen, you can get both from Bunnings which is everywhere in Australia, and isnt too expensive to set up :)
@@sandcasting_with_kirralea But did the liquid gold completely fill up the mold before it hardened?
9:06 How much does it weigh?
I LOVE your videos! Question.....you used a file on the shell. Doesn't that leave marks or does the polishing machine take care of them??
