  • The journey of this 1997 Toyota 4Runner, third-generation, has led me to replace the seat leather on the driver’s bottom side seat. It’s torn, looks terrible, and will only get worse. Given I want to restore this vehicle to how it looked in 1997, it was critical to replace the leather, not just throw a cover on it. In this video, I show the procedure to remove the seat on a 1997 Toyota 4Runner. Yes, it’s not difficult, but, if you are like me, seeing a video beforehand is always worth the time.
It’s important to note, be certain you put the seat in the lowest position prior to removal if you plan to replace the leather. This is required in order to access screws, so I’m told. If you remove it, you won’t have a way to power it up and do this unless you put it back in the car. I hope you find this video useful.

The left hand seat? I have since sold this car and am not familiar with manual seats in it.

@@BigBoyz33 I got it off but I can’t remember, I’m sorry. I think it was threaded on?

I did mine on my 98 leather bottom and they look great. My only issue is that i cant get the plastic piece on the left side of the drivers seat that goes over the buttons to connect plush so there is no gap. Any tips?

Hmm ... It's been a bit since I did this and I sold the truck so I can't look. Did the plastic come off and won't go back on?

When you say put the seat all the way down, you’re not putting it all the way down because the seat can go almost horizontal. Is the seat leaning backward or forward? I’m trying to access the bolt in the leather replacement video and can’t access it. Connected the seat to power to and tried putting the seat all the way down leaning back and the bolt is still not moving into accessibility. Let me know if I misunderstood.

Man, I sold this truck a few years ago and don't remember exactly. I would just try every position you can until you gain access. Good luck!

@@jamzdotnet shortly after I sent that, I learned a new position and the seat itself with the seat bottom goes in the down direction hahaha I only knew the top seat leaning forward and backwards and the entire seat shifting forward backwards! Apologies if I sounded irritated hahaha

Would’ve been helpful to see how the plastic bolt covers were removed and replaced instead of editing that critical step out of the footage - mine are giving issue to being replaced - came back to your vid to see if I missed watching that step but no, you skipped it.

I did my best. I have since sold this truck. Sorry you didn't find the video helpful.
