  • installed a different carb and headers on the 4A032 to see if it helped output any. (it did, gained 20 lbs thrust!) I wanted this little engine to work so bad in this boat, unfortunately it just didn't have enough push to get up on plane. BTW I never ran it at the river with the open headers, this was just for fun.

i hope someday somebody can get this to power wheels someday or turbo love to see things i never knew power things to move.

I molded an adapter out of aluminum and bought a VW carburetor and put on one of my 4A032 engines. I was going to use it for an ultralight aircraft, but I believe it to be just too heavy for the power output. These are rated 6 hp, but the generators are rated 3000 W and that would require 7.5 Hp. The generators will go a little more than the rating, so I believe you are right about 8-10 Hp. The bore and stroke for one cylinder is the same as a Briggs 2 Hp engine.

it measured 80lbs of thrust like this, best guess on HP....around 8-10

If you put the gas tank above the motor, could you run the gas line straight into the carburetor instead of going through the governor? Maybe then just take the governor off and cap the hole? Or is there a way to bore out the governor to add hp? Thanks, I'm building a sawmill and really want to use one of these motors.

Shane K the governor is connected only to the throttle linkage, there is a tiny fuel pump that lets you put the gas tank wherever you want. If you dont run it through the pump you definitely have to have the gas tank higher than the carb inlet to gravity feed. In this case the governor linkage was just disconnected. Once you do that you can just leave it in place, its got a pressurized oil line going through it so it's easier to just leave it in place. I do a 4a032 walk through that you can see the linkage and pump. Hope this helps!

Where can I find a prop adapter to bolt onto the engine also prop source?? Thanks. Great looking mod!!!

Saturn surplus dot com had a bunch of shaft adapters that went from the flywheel to a 1" keyed shaft, to go to a prop like this is strictly a "make yer own" situation, the good news is any good machinist can turn you one pretty easily

Hello. What is the make/model of this hull? Also, length/beam, and what kind of hp you think it will take to get it on plane? I'm building a 4A032 that I'm expecting to get allot more hp from, and I'm looking for something to bolt it into.

It is an arrow prop scooter hull, 10'6" long, I got it on step with the 4a084 that's on the workbench in the video that put out 180 lbs thrust, hp wise I'd say roughly 20... But I also weighed this thing at 435lbs shortly afterwards, 275 of which was motor and rigging alone. Now if you made rigging out of aluminum and slimmed it down by a hundred lbs I'd think the 4a032 would plane this thing

i just got one of these little engines and i want to get more power out of it. what should i do. i was thinking bigger intake manifolds and bigger carb. would a vw carb work without other adjustments to the engine. sorry i'm not a diesel engine expert. would be helpfull if you know or can help.

A more efficient exhaust helps a lot, the hard turns on the stock manifold are not so great, but zoomies like in this vid are LOUD!!! But fun!!! Best compromise... Long radius turns and equal length primaries into a common muffler to equalize pressures across all cylinders, it'll help you scavenge the cylinder much more efficiently and make more power

How much HP is it putting out?

Don't open the exhaust , Limit the flow to somewhere between stock output and open flow. Reason being this engine needs some back pressure. You should see a marked hp increase with simple exhaust tuning especially in the bottom end rpm range. Good luck.
