This conversation really hit home for me. My wife & I are both chronically ill, & seniors, without friends. Not having a community to lean on is rough. Our society throws people like us away. We struggle, but we at least have each other & our dog family. I urge listeners to reach out to anyone you know who might be needing help. It’d mean the world to them

Where are you located? Maybe there are other handsome listeners in the area to form a community. Little pockets of Handsome communities throughout the world.
@@susanlyon8515 That’s a wonderful thought, but I wasn’t trying to use this forum for personal gain lol You’re very kind to reach out tho. Thank you! :)
It's so upsetting that material and other needs are often super inaccessible. I get upset about this esp being on social security benefits myself. but people care about this stuff and hopefully people who are involved in grassroots movements and attending city council meetings and organizing, they will show up for others.
Just a little unsolicited advice from your friendly neighborhood volunteer: You don't need to start an organization! I promise you, whatever you are thinking of starting, there exists a similar (if not exact) type of foundation in your area and they are desperately trying to reach out to the community. All you need to do is show up at the next event and make yourself "useful". You will meet wonderful, like-minded people and your time, help, and skills will be so appreciated. Keep it Handsome 💚
I am a 2-time cancer survivor and Tig is absolutely spot on with her comments about helping people. For some reason, when you are ill, you feel like a burden and so when people put it on you to reach out when you need help, you don't. (It's a vicious cycle.) Those friends and family that understood that and took that first step of initiating helping instead of putting that on me saved me and I am forever grateful to them! It's hard but so important!
This is a particularly good episode😂 I loved the computer glitch and Fortune’s staunch stance that Janet Reno doesn’t have to have a significant other. I even went to wiki and read that Janet Reno was learning Spanish, learned in-line skating, and went to plays. I’m a huge advocate for people to enjoy hobbies more so I really admire Janet now! ❤
What Tig said about really showing up made me very emotional. I lost both of my parents at 17 and I had a lot of empty promises from family friends, teachers, saying they would be there, but they weren’t. The people who just wanted to be there,…there, especially with a home-cooked meal were the best..oh man, the people who feed me, I was wayyyyy too depressed to eat. And needed company to do so .Everyone told me I was strong and tough, and I’d be okay instead of offering help. Who says that to a child? Tig ❤
As you said, sometimes, the right smile at the right moment makes all the difference. I was wondering what to do for my sick aunt. Tig, thank you so much for your wisdom. I'm just going to show up and be there. What a podcast!
I had open heart surgery last November. I knew I needed it for a month and your podcast helped me laugh during one of the most stressful months of my life. My surgery was on a Tuesday and I remember feeling sad I couldn’t listen to your pod that day. Also I’m only 32 and not being able to be useful after surgery was one of the hardest things for me.
I’m towards the end of a 25-year neurological disease. Not good for much! But I loved doing volunteer work, and it bugs me not to being doing anything useful now. This inspires me to contact local volunteer and seniors orgs; could I do brief conversations? (Half an hour is my max for talking.) Thanks for pushing me into checking this out. Thanks Arnie!
Dolly Parton has a program where your kid gets sent a new book every few months for free. When they come, I yell Aunt Dolly sent you another book! lol I don’t think she would mind.
Thank you Handsomes, for giving me some laughs & just generally cheering me up today. My Mum passed a year & a half ago & today was to be her 63rd birthday. Y’all really came through for me, & I’m sure many others today. Big love!🥰 (three hearts for three handsomes!) *Woah! I wrote this comment before Arnie asked his question!🤯

My Aunt Lavita always said, "Never let help go unneeded." It was her way of informing us that sometimes, people want to help and - though you may not need it - it is a kindness to accept their help.
This was a great episode! I love how much meaning Mae attaches to things, I'm looking forward to the follow up once they've seen the video! Also there is definitely something about donkeys in the UK, all these adverts on the TV showing sad and abandoned donkeys asking you to donate.

I struggle a lot with knowing how to help cause organizing can be such a difficult step. Community is so important in supporting each other. I was raised to be very productively useful, as an adult I try to direct that energy to helping others.
Don't start a foundation- donate to and volunteer with EXISTING nonprofits! There are so many, and we don't need money wasted on the admin of new. It is a real problem in our nonprofit/philanthropy field. You will be welcomed by SO many established organizations- go for it!
On another episode someone suggested in the comments, making merch with "Probably, one of the funniest people Tig knows." I think it's a great idea, and I promise if you make it, I will buy it!
I was having so much fun, I kissed right along with y’all. And Arnold!! Wow, I love hearing about where his career, and character have taken him! Super cool guest question.
I like the Tig's idea of giving people a meal for a few days. But keep in mind that more and more people have nut allergies. Switching up your ingredients could be helpful.
Ok, hear me out: y'all start a book club. You know how Reese's book club features women authors? Well, y'all could feature LGBTQIA+ authors. Or just comedies 🤷♀️ Either way, I just want the Handsome book club to be a thing! You don't have to read the books - I'm pretty sure Jimmy Fallon never reads his book club picks 😂
After visiting a donkey sanctuary in Bonaire many years ago, I determined that I was going to be the donkey philanthropist. I currently donate regularly to a sanctuary in TX. It felt like I could make more of an impact because your average person is just not concerned with donkeys.

Sounds sweet to have folks around you when you're chronicall ill to take care of things. Sometimes, all you have is a government department insisting you keep working with chronic heart failure. So fun.
Dolly Parton's "Imagination Station" is phenomenal and global. SHe gives full college scholarships or trade training to all Dollywood employees including part time and seasonal.
Hey Tig, any chance you know Renee O'Conner's parents Sandra and Eddie Wilson? I worked for Eddie at Threadgill's here in Austin Texas. It was one of the best times of my life. Eddie's most fervent wish was to retire to New Zealand and feed chicken- fried steak to the Kiwis. Unfortunately, unfettered development and covid killed Threadgill's.
Accidentally sent before I finished sharing that "TRUE Stories" w/Tig & Cheryl was a fav too!! Love all you pretty little ladies and cowboys! Etc! Xoxo
Excellent episode! I'd like to recommend a very short, easily-readable book that will be published soon--The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer (author of Braiding Sweetgrass--also fantastic). It speaks to the very heart of your discussion, " a bold and inspiring vision for how to orient our lives around gratitude, reciprocity, and community."

DEAR BEAUTIFUL HANDSOME COMMUNITY, I absolutely have been a huge fan of t pod and of each and every one of all your work as well forever, years and years. I'm from LA but live in Mexico and have been a remote Spanish-English Medical Interpreter since even before CoVid and all thru the pandemic... So since then I have been with all types of specialist health care providers, patients and families in US hospitals when it matters most, in all areas and health care situations and of course I love my care work profoundly. However, recently I myself was ill and could not work as I normally do, which often is 10-12 hr days, only half time, to be able to receive my treatment and recovery. It really affected me financially and now basically I am quite behind on my rent and bills... Like I mentioned I live in Mexico so dollars go a long way here and are trying to fund raise 2500 dollars to be able to continue my recuperation, my health care work and get back on track... Tig, May, Fortune, Arnold, anyone here in this wonderful Handsome community who could possibly donate ANY funds at all it could literally save me from losing my apartment, employment, health treatment, electricity, water, gas, everything I have worked so hard and wholeheartedly for... After visiting a donkey sanctuary in Bonaire many years ago, I determined that I was going to be the donkey philanthropist. I currently donate regularly to a sanctuary in TX. It felt like I could make more of an impact because your average person is just not concerned with donkeys.
Good morning!! I hope you are waking up feeling good and choosing happy 😊
Go make it a great day!!

If this speaks to you please let me know here, I will send you my paypal and I will be infinitely grateful for your critically needed help, care and support!... I APPRECIATE YOU DEEPLY, SENDING HANDSOME LVE AND KISS!....
Mae glitched!!!
I saw that bear video online as well. I watched for about 10 seconds and said nope I’m out.
Tig, would love if you can get Anson Mount to do the podcast!
Would so be here for a handsome pretty little poetry club !! ❤
Biggie is too cute, and i cant handle it!
Wow, I think that can count as your vow renewal.
Janet Reno first female Attorney General and was a Democrat. 💕💕⚡️⚡️
Sounds sweet to have folks around you when you're chronicall ill to take care of things. Sometimes, all you have is a government department insisting you keep working with chronic heart failure. So fun.
🔥🔥🔥❤
This has been an entirely useful podcast. Thank you for thinking beyond Capitalism❤
❤️❤️❤️
Remember Reader’s Digest: Laughter is the Best Medicine ❤
Dolly Parton's "Imagination Station" is phenomenal and global. SHe gives full college scholarships or trade training to all Dollywood employees including part time and seasonal.
If you look up tangent in the dictionary, it will say " what is the Handsome podcast"?, lol.
🔥❤
I love you Mae but are we really still talking about the bear??😂😂🙄
Hey Tig, any chance you know Renee O'Conner's parents Sandra and Eddie Wilson? I worked for Eddie at Threadgill's here in Austin Texas. It was one of the best times of my life. Eddie's most fervent wish was to retire to New Zealand and feed chicken- fried steak to the Kiwis. Unfortunately, unfettered development and covid killed Threadgill's.
Take a look at Gord Downie and the Tragically Hip's final tour across Canada... and then try to deny the power of positivity.
Love you all!
We appreciate you
MY FAVORITE POD ( w/cheryl eas a fav too! ...my dearest Handsome folks- "mounted" refers to them being mounted on horses...Not related to Mountains.
