    Wow!! Huge difference. Hope it sustains those cooler temps for you in the future pulling bigger loads on the engine.

      Yeah massive! Recently had a 2.5t trailer in tow and the highest the intake temp got was 42deg C ambient temps of around 28-30degC. Pre intercooler install that temp would be 100-120degC so really happy with the improvement. Cooler engine temps and quicker recovery after a hill climb also which is excellent. Thanks for watching

    What’d you wind up doing for the indicator lights? I just installed this FMIC and had to leave those lights out for the same reason as you.

      I initially cut and shut the factory ones to give clearance. I have since glued and silicone some bullbar LED lights in behind the factory lens

    Curious as to the reasons why you went front mount over top mount with the ease and efficiencies of top mount coolers these days?

    • @tinkeringtimmy4061
      @tinkeringtimmy4061  26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      air into front mount would be hard to beat on the 80's, water doesn't move off bonnet at 100klms/hr so top mount would require fans, another fail point. In my case the top mount actually cooled the radiator as the intake temps were significantly lower so radiator didn't have to work hard. Reports that adding top mount changed airflow dynamics through engine bay affecting radiator flow (although i don't fully think this as fan pull air really well). Engine servicing is a touch more complex with top mount. To name a few :)

    What if i'll install one in my TLC100 with 1hdfte? Instead of small stock intercooler. I think electronic fuel pump or engine ECU will not see air increase and nothing changes. That's sad.

      Cooler more dense air is always going to be better for the engine. This will lower EGT's and engine running temps under load. www.performancedieselintercoolers.com.au/products/landcruiser-100105-mk2-700-series-core

    What EGT temps were you getting when towing not Intercooler to Intercooler?

    • @tinkeringtimmy4061
      @tinkeringtimmy4061  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      under the same conditions I have seen a drop of about 80-100 degrees EGT depending on ambient temp. The other massive difference is the recovery of temps (water and oil temps) after hills when temps spike. Before the PDI temps stayed high for a lot longer

    Hi would it have made any difference where you put your holes so the pipes would clear your indicators thanks Tim

    • @tinkeringtimmy4061
      @tinkeringtimmy4061  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah its a bit tricky as any adjustment there affects the intercooler alignment and also the height under the bonnet.
      I found its a bit of a compromise but got it pretty good with no rubbing anywhere.
      I have since cut the indicators apart and glued LED lights behind the faceplate to retain the factory look but now I have water tight LED's so no more rusted globes

    The front mounted intercooler surely will limit the airflow to the radiator?!

    • @tinkeringtimmy4061
      @tinkeringtimmy4061  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, although putting anything in-front of your car will spot lights bullbar winch etc. What the intercooler does though is reduce intake temps (this one I have seen a difference of up to 80degC) which reduces the strain on the cooling system to keep the engine at normal operating temps. From the driving and towing I have done before and after installing this PDI intercooler is that any limitations caused by the front mount due to airflow to my radiator is completely negated by the cooler intake charge temps and I have only seen cooler engine water and oil temps in every situation, towing 4wding and cruising at different ambient temps. Keep in mind I am only running 12psi ct26 style turbo on my 1hz. This company claims that at higher boost levels this kit will still work, and from what I have seen I have no reason to believe these claims.

    What did your Coolant temp sit at with the new inter cooler

    • @tinkeringtimmy4061
      @tinkeringtimmy4061  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Normal driving 80-85, highway 110klms 83-89 aircon on. So far I have noticed the coolant temps take longer to rise when working motor hard and are quicker to settle. Big test will be towing and after a good few runs I will do another video with temps and stats etc. Thanks for watching

    Great vid👍 how much did it lower egts? Especially while towing.

    • @tinkeringtimmy4061
      @tinkeringtimmy4061  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      EGT's have lowered around 100 degrees whilst towing our 2.5t van in a like for like situation. Uphill I am able to hold speed much better and use the power more instead of backing off because of EGT's, also made a massive difference to water temp of about 10-15deg when towing uphill's and hot ambient temps. Quick recovery time on my oil and water temps also which is incredible, before after getting up a hill it would take a while to settle the temps, now its so quick after relaxing the throttle its very impressive and I highly recommend this FMIC if your doing some towing etc. Cheers for the comment mate

    My question is why hasn't anyone done videos on a air to water intercooler setup? its what I bought but havent installed it yet (just got it). was hoping to find videos on it but theres is none.
    I used to have a bmw M4 which had air to water intercooling in stock form and it was Extremely efficient. thats why I decided to get a similar setup for my 80 series.

    • @tinkeringtimmy4061
      @tinkeringtimmy4061  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Whilst researching the best setup for my needs I explored to water to air systems, one thing I was worried about was water leaking from system into engine so a top quality unit was to be used. Also the added plumbing of a water system and the cooling of that water the system was getting a bit complicated for my needs, that and the lack of kits available made me think the market isn't there for the majority so isn't worth the extra effort. If I was going to go WTA I was thinking of using the aircon system to cool the water, this is best of both worlds as the system in the 80's is great and can handle the extra load, but for my setup and needs this was overkill so i stuck with the simple tried and tested Air to Air intercooler, over 12 months with this kit and I am still very happy.

    Hey mate, what intake air temps are you seeing under sustained load or highway hills etc at 110kms?

    • @tinkeringtimmy4061
      @tinkeringtimmy4061  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      two very different scenarios there bud.
      Cruising at 100-110 not towing no hill intake temp of ambient +5-10
      Uphills under load intake temp ambient +10-20 depending on other variables, towing speed etc.
      The best part of the setup is much more stable coolant and oil temps, under long sustained loads the temps don't creep like they used to, and they recover much much faster.
      Still very very happy with the kit
