- Friends, we come to the wonderful Feast of the Epiphany and the great account in the Gospel of Matthew of the journey of the three magi. This marvelous, puzzling story, which has so beguiled the poets, artists, and preachers over the centuries, bears a very profound theological truth, and it has to do with the relationship of the national and the transnational.

Just sitting in a humble line for confession in South Florida: between an older Hispanic woman and a Korean woman about my age as a Haitian mother dragging her two truculent teenage sons into the line. We each smiled at each other knowingly; we must have all had the same maternal experience that also transcended our native languages. It was such a delightful and humble little moment.

Congrats on being in RCIA. That's funny you're a Bishop Barron Catholic. Just be careful not to put too much of your faith in Bishop Barron, meaning don't take him for granted.
I am 54. Amazed at how he makes it so interesting and "understandable". Raised Catholic but didn't really start paying attention until about 5 years ago. Never too late I guess. Be well.

It makes me reflect on the INTERNATIONAL MASS that is celebrated in LOURDES. When you look around you & see people from all over the world. It is this very EMMANUEL, Our Lord Jesus that draws great crowds of people to come together to PRAISE & WORSHIP & GIVE THANKS to God.🙏
Absolutely. My mom (North Idaho Swiss/ German) and my mother in law (Mexican immigrant in California) have absolutely nothing in common. But they can say a rosary together.
I have witnessed Lourdes mass and rosary, it is indeed universal, to attend mass and pray rosary in different y languages.

I'm not catholic, I wouldn't say I belong to any denomination and if anything I lean toward more protestant ones. I just want to hear messages that share truth, and I've yet to hear one of Bishop Barron's that don't do that. I always look forward to listening to his sermons. They are always Christ centered, and that's exactly how they should be. Sermons should not be self-help presentations that are sprinkled with truth. When sermons are written in a robust way that presents Christ at the center, those are the most helpful for the human condition. And Bishop Barron always does that. God bless you.

@@russellmiles2861I think the church drawn this number “3 kings” from the 3 gifts presented. In Asia prior to the Vatican II, this feast also calls the feast of 3 kings. In Việt Nan, many people are still calling this feast is the feast of 3 kings. You, me and the brother/sister from Singapore make up the “3 kings” to follow the star of Christ Jesus. Happy traveling home to our father house. 🙏😁👍

You are an oratory genius, Bishop Barron! What an illuminating sermon. Thank you. We know from infancy that the three wise men, the three kings followed a star to find Baby Jesus in a stable. But never did I understand the significance of they leaving their own countries to find this little king of the Jews. And the internationality of the Catholic Church begins with these magi following a star to find the Light of the World. You have enlightened me with your words, yet again and I am always happy to pass on the wisdom I have learnt from you. Go raibh míle maith agat!

The Oracle of Delphi also told of the coming of Jesus, not just the Jews. The Three Wise King are celebrated in Spain as they reckoned its time frame with their movement to have arrive with gifts and blessings. Thank you father, for the stories we become with. Only Compassion, transcending as the resurrection, giving oneself and yet holding the whip is something many can balance with as we do everyday in deep, thank you father. Amen 💐💐💐How Godly!

Dear Bishop, I vote that this is one of the best sermons from you. I am from Malaysia.
Epiphany is a great celebration, demonstrating there's so much more to the Christmas story that's worth extending the celebration.
I like the idea of a start that shines over all the nations of the world. And in the Light of Christ, we find the King Who truly brings peace and joy to all Who recognize His presence and come to worship Him.
When Bishop Barron mentioned the Synod, I thought about World YOuth Day, and I'm glad he mentioned that next. I have so many powerful memories of my experience at World Youth Day in Panama, which was 5 years ago this month. We came bringing aspects of our unique national identities, and joining together as One Church.
In some respects, Epiphany connects with Pentecost, because Christ truly came to save all people of the world, and we, the faithful, are called to carry the message to all the world.
So even though this year's Christmas Season is too short, we have some wonderful to carry forth from it.
I had an experience of this last year. I am Anglican, my wife Catholic (don't worry I checked she was actually a believer before I asked for her hand ;) and we were living in Edinburgh at the time. I wanted to visit St. Paul and St. Georges Church, which is just around the corner from St. Mary's Cathedral. I entered and sat down in the former... everyone was white British (I am not upset about that, I'm not racist) but in the capital of Scotland I couldn't help feel this church, however excellent the teaching is, it still wasn't a house for the nations. I got up and went to St. Mary's. It was a beautiful mix of so many nationalities all sitting under the same cross. Teaching wasn't up to much sadly, (Bishop Barron is truly exceptional) but in that place a lifetime memory was etched in my mind and something of what the Kingdom of God is supposed to look like was shown me.

They the three wise men noticed the Star ⭐ . WOW! Look ! Someone is coming we must go check on this person. And acknowledge Him. Truly inspiring to them from within their spirit as well. They drop everything they were doing to seek after this sign where He is located. Men of knowledge educated . Wise. I listened to you with a different perspective. It was beautiful . Even of little earth ornaments of planets how wonderful is that as a sign to US. Thank you for sharing this video today . As I took was inspired to write my thoughts too. Joyful and I saw a Christmas tree Star it was so beautiful to me it stayed in my mind as it was shown to me on a TH-cam greeting and message of a spiritual journey . The Star lingered brightly in my mind. , and you confirmed it . Truly amazing GRACE for me. God's gift to me also. For today! Sunday morning gift of the Magi . How wonderful is that! The Sunday sermon today is very inspiring and refers to the three wise men which means the Epiphany, and is celebrated after the Christmas season (closed). The three MAGI brought gifts when they visited the infant Jesus because of their envision of the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. As I remember the infant Jesus was born without sin but He became sinful for us and bore our sins in His body on the cross (2 Corinthians 5:12- 21). I believe the Epiphany is not only just a voice in the hamburger's bear feet (misused) but signifies the calling of the chosen few like wise men and it's an invitation to anyone and everyone around the world to follow Christ (unless choose to follow hamburger's feet). I traveled from the East to seek God as my star salvation. My journey being a part of the Three King Gifts (Matthew 2: 9-11) wasn't easy because opening the treasure has a special symbolic meaning. I accept and justify that Jesus is the king of the Jews, Jesus is the son of God and Jesus' Mortality. I faced difficult trials as I encountered Jesus Christ with a different identity to bring people to His Father. My duties (a battling) are to help the Pope and the bishops to teach, sanctify (to make sacred hamburger feet), and govern the People of God because they have authority and power given to them by Jesus Christ, beginning when they were received by St. Peter and the other Apostles, as well as to keep the priest in our parish church to bury the dead this coming week and forever. I find my peace in them (the lover of hunger and poverty). I pray for you and offer (the whole envelope) my life to the Infant child of Jesus with thanksgiving, joy, praise, and worship through Jesus Christ, the rising star here on Earth. Please, pray for the Dreger family here in WA. Happy Feast of the Epiphany. God bless you all.

I love the story of the Magi. It is recorded only in the Gospel of Matthew but it gives full validation to a Messianic prophecy in Micah 5:2, which would otherwise still be unfulfilled. The story is also full of fascinating clues for any history detective as to what really happened in the Middle East under an emerging Roman empire around the time of Jesus' birth.
