Danielle is so cool. I’ve seen a lot of great stuff with her in it, and always enjoy listening to her culinary expertise. Great conversation. Thanks for posting.
Until the cost comes down, buying from local farmers is never gonna be the norm or attainable by very many people. I raise my own hogs as I need to stock my freezer, I raise my own beef from time to time to stock my freezer. Faith and I hunt and fish for nearly every creature out there and stock our freezer. It's a job to keep enough meat stocked away from year to year. I reality very few people do this because of the time and effort required. They believe it's easier to earn money and just buy that meat. The issue for Faith and I is what we know about healthy foods. We can't buy from your normal grocery stores. We also can every vegetable and freeze what can be can easily. It's nearly a full time job to live self-sufficient. The cheapest way to buy beef I have found is knowing a farmer and going to the stockyard on the day he is carrying a load of his healthy cattle to sell and buying that animal and having butchered the way we would want. We average $4-$5 per lb doing this on occasion. There are many solutions to healthy meats.
As you said, there are numerous solutions but ultimately it comes down to high cost whether it’s time or money. Agree 100%. Id love to have all my meat come from hunting or farming for just knowing where my food comes from but it has to really be a priority to make it happen. Sometimes it’s just not an option unfortunately.
