  • In the words of En Vogue: now it’s time for a breakdown.
Song two is up for your perusal. The second most requested tutorial is for Once and Future Queen. I made some adjustments from the last video based on your suggestions. Let me know any advice you have to make these more easy to understand...

My god, I can't believe. I discovered this song a couple of days ago, and after listening to it like a hundred times realized I need to play it. Thought there was no chance to find tabs or a tutotial, but seriously, here it is, made by John himself. Thank you so much, it's priceless.

Tried to get this off of Ultimate guitar realized it was wrong. Tried to work it out for myself knew it was going to be a nightmare so I gave a shot that maybe by chance someone would put a how to, it was so awesome to find that you actually were the one, Thanks.

This is so funny to see. I spent some serious time working this out last year from the Red Barn and KXT live sessions and I am still working on Black Leaf from KXT and TH-cam Space concerts. Pandemic sucks but it is helping my guitar skills. Thank You so much for sharing your gift with us.

Oh wow, I just discovered that one of my favorite artists of all time is making video lessons. Thanks so much man, it's so fascinating to hear you break down your music; truly makes me wanna pick up the guitar and play along. I know you're a busy man, but hopefully you'll make more lessons from time to time.
    Take care!

This was a wonderful find for such a beautiful song. Would be great to see the strumming technique in more detail - I think it's actually a lot harder than you suggest and testament to how well you play. From what I see you play the bass note with your thumb, and then on the rake/downstroke with your fingers you simultaneously plant the thumb on the bass string you will play next , play the upstroke with the thumb planted and you're ready to play that bass. That takes some practice

Loved it! This reminds me of the Carter Scratch. Walking bass lines with percussive fans. Very nice. I learned a lot! Thank you!

I spent a large number of hours watching your live performances trying to figure this out and then came across this. Thank you very much--I'll help you get the word out. This is my favorite song of all time, and I've never heard a songwriter so perfectly on my wavelength than you, John Paul White, are, consistently, every reinvention is just perfect and ready for the next phase of my life. Thank you.

great stuff! love this song so much! thank you for doing these great lessons!
if i may be so bold: when playing the end of the first and last chorus, when doing the slide from the c-shape from 3rd to 5th fret, i add in a little slide to the 6th fret to add a tension note that resolves when we go back to the E-minor.

That's amazing John. I'll tell you that I learn that song by ear 2 years ago. Only watching you in live shows and listen A LOT your album.
Pleeeeease... Do a tutorial: Make You Cry, Hate The Way you love me and I'll get even from Beulah. And from The Long Goodbye do Losing me, Black Cloud and September. This Life I learned watching your live shows.
And it's my favorite lyrics 💙
From The Hurting Kind just the one... The Hurting Kind it's PERFECT. THANK YOU FOR THE AMAZING PERSON YOU ARE.
One day I wanna meet you ... Is one of my dreams.
I play your songs to my baby sleep ...she likes a lot.
    One more time... Thank you.

Hi John Paul, not sure if you will read this but have been a fan since The Civil Wars. Can I ask what acoustic pickup is in your 56/57 OOO 18? Gosh, your stage tone with that guitar melts my ears in a good way. Love that guitar.

I think the most difficult part for me is getting my brain to do those hammer-ons with my left hand at the same time as strumming that bass note with my thumb with my right hand. Anyone else? What’s the most difficult part for you?

Thank you so much, this is a fantastic tutorial for one of my most favorite songs ever! The really hard part, for me, is when it comes to singing at the same time - do you have any advice for mediocre singers, who are rhythmically challenged when multi-tasking? (Other than, of course, the obvious one: practice, practice, practice)

    • @BakanoJutsu
      @BakanoJutsu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Always sing with your practicing. Go slowly until you develop the muscle memory for doing both.
