They will talk again its only a matter of time. They both said they've sang with tons of other people and never clicked musically like they do with each other. We'd all love to see them making music together again.
I'm truly hoping for another June Carter and Johnny Cash ending! These two belong together, if not romantically than at least as a musical duo! They're magical together! Years later fans are still calling out for them!
Guys I recommend the Historical Fiction novel “Daisy Jones and the Six” it was inspired by a mix of the mysterious break up of the Civil Wars and the band Fleetwood Mac. If you like 70s music and biopic style interviews 100/10 would recommend. Also, Pick up the audiobook because it sounds like an actual interview with real actors!
Unfortunately I discovered them after they split. JPW solo was wonderful live! Just himself and a guitar. Joy is coming soon and I have to go watch her. Best duet I've ever heard.
JP can say all he likes that all they had was musical chemistry, and that it didn't translate into real life... we can see for ourselves when we watch their banters, etc.
You know what's fascinating? I bet their videographer for the majority of 2011-2012 Allister Ann would make one hell of an interview or AMA session. I bet she knows where all the bodies are buried, amongst other tidbits. Would help to frankly put the mystery to bed and provide some closure.
I read an article around 2017 or 2018 that Joy is distinctly more ambitious, and was more focused on touring while in the Civil Wars, than John Paul White was, which caused friction between them. *Also*, Joy's husband at that time, Nate, was her manager, and that plausibly led to financial tension and disputes, with her having arguably two dogs in the fight, so to speak, and more leverage and influence, than John.
None of anyone else’s business what may or may not have happened. And it’s totally unnecessary, esp given both have families and children that could be affected by any “bodies” being excavated.
@@yokoshemp Yeah once in a while I visit their videos and it´s always quite bittersweet and a bit painful. I really hope they will get back together some day and make beautiful music together :)
What a shame that the tour never really happened. (Last gig was in London). One of the industry's biggest mysteries really. Did they or didn't they....?
No mystery really, just look upthe article Joy did, saying they had grown a bit apart creatively, and so the burnt some bridges between them! But she hopes they can come back together, at some point she said she missed John Paul! However things she said in that article don't add up to the things she said in this interview! Look up the npr music that's where the article is!

That song from 2:41-3:20 is seriously lulling me to sleep. It's so peaceful.. If you guys break up, I swear I'll suffer from insomnia. I'll feel like a part of me is missing. You write the most beautiful songs I've ever heard in a long time. Don't do it. Why is it that something so beautiful has to end so suddenly? To appreciate it more? To reminisce? No, we already love you and appreciate you enough, more than you can ever imagine. It's supernaturally unreal the music you make. Much love.
Literally shed a couple tears when I found out they were no more :'( I can't wait for their second album to drop. I mean, literally, can't wait. I'm going to miss their beautiful music so much. So. Much. Two albums isn't enough. I love The Civil Wars.
The voices mesh well together. Harmonies that work. They call it chemistry. Once you find it, it’s something special. And you can sing with a hundred other people and not find the chemistry. It’s a shame they split and aren’t working together. Maybe they will come back some day. I think they will be successful if they do. And they can work it out and keep the professional life separate from the private life. For some reason I thought they were a couple because their singing is so intimate. But they are not. She’s married and so is he. That’s fine. The singing is a job like another other.

Joy and Nate divorced in 2019, and she remarried a man named Ted Woods in Oct. 2022.
Something so powerful wasn't meant to last. Or maybe...under different circumstances...it would have. We'll never know. And these 2...will never share the only truth of the matter either. Miss them together...so much that vids like this are almost more painful to watch than enjoy.
My goodness I wanna see u in concert!!! Come to ohio. I love u guys. My daughter who is 9 months old responses so well to ur music. It calmed her so much when we were in the hospital for a week when she was 4 months old. You two make love to the music. I feel emotional every single time I listen. I feel different things each one I listen. I love it. I am on pond n needles for ur next release. Much love!
John Paul: We met in a methadone clinic. Joy was a junkie Joy: I don't remember that. John Paul: Well, that's cause you were a junkie. I DIED OML HAHAHHAHAHAHA XDD
If you notice in the opening credit, it reads like the interview was filmed Jan 1, 2012 - about 1 1/2 years ago. More a picture of what once was? But there's still a new album coming out! YEAH!
What are they singing at 2:42 btw they're not broke up. Last anyone has heard is Joy wants to tour. John said he's toured out and wants a break after promoting their debut for 2 years.
They must be so sick and tired of people going on about how they "were meant to be" when it is patently obvious that Joy Williams is meant to be married to me. Come on people Get it right.
I'm trying to figure out if they're sending some sort of subtle message that they still might want to tour or whether they're just messing with our minds :/
I can appreciate that you both are doing solo albums now, but it is NOTHING close to what you made when you worked together. your music transcended genres. the music you make alone is nothing close to what you made together. get over what ever petty squabble you had and put your big boy and girl britches on.
Please tell me this means something like you're not breaking up for good because you are too good and I need to see you live and OH PLEASE I'M COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS TO MAY 1ST GUYS
He harmonizes on the second verse and all choruses. Its not much different than Falling or some of their other tracks from "Barton Hallow." Still sounds like them.
It isnt out business what the reason is for their difficulties. Both people r married to others and have their seperate lives. Why not look at their interaction as an expression of their love for music...a courting of the muse.
Why are you so negative?! On every single video I see you commenting something about them never getting back together. You have no hope. Are you even a fan?!
everything about this band annoys me. the songs, her invasive staring (she can't let him talk without being two inches from his face and not taking her eyes off him ... it's too much ... give it a rest for a second, lady), did i say the songs, the songs, their voices, the songs sung by their voices, their voices and the songs.
their chemistry is so raw, beautiful, and apparent... still can't get over this heartbreaking split

It’s their spouses that’s keeping them apart
@@fixedit8689 highly unlikely. Joy Williams divorced her husband, Nate, in 2019.
He reminds me of Johnny Depp so much! Such a beautiful lady & handsome man. Wish they still sang together.

Thanks for the heads-up….👍
There will never be another Civil Wars..unless they come back..love and miss you Joy and John Paul..
Don't you know that it breaks our hearts because you are apaft...
Unfortunately I discovered them after they split. JPW solo was wonderful live! Just himself and a guitar. Joy is coming soon and I have to go watch her. Best duet I've ever heard.
Just wanna mention John Paul's excellent guitar playing, percussive, confident and the solid underpinnings of their excellent vocals.
Such a shame the group called it quits. Such great music. In my opinions, best duo in my lifetime.
Under different circumstances, they would have made an excellent couple.
I just love the fact that joy has her own mic but yet chooses to use john pauls.
I only discovered them a few years ago but OMG magic on so many levels. 🥰 It’s a thing of beauty and I’m just grateful the music lives on.

Picking out my seat for the concert in Central Park in 2032.
XD Sameee
This comment needs wayyyyy more likes lmao
What a beautiful comment! Fingers crossed
@@pridden76 I hadn't thought of them in awhile. Good thing I live alone because I sat and cried awhile.

The way that she looks at him....
...could have been part of the problem
Joy's dancing is one of the best things in their music video
Ikr
Joy is so damn beautiful, delicate and good singer... What a Woman!
Holy shit. . .I wish the song at 2:50 was on the new album. . . it's mezmerising
35TCK whats the song??
Their music chemistry was amazing! How can they not get back together? Life and time heals…..🙏🙏🙏

My heart is broken that they broke up.
What is the song at 2:49 that they're both humming? It's really beautiful. A bit lullaby like?
I miss them so much
Bren57mar, yes I definitely hear him. He harmonizes on the second verse and choruses.

They are wonderful
I hope this means there will be more touring in the future!
Yes come to the UK! I'd love to see you live! :D And I love seeing there are seemingly no plans of break-up
So in love, so sad.
Last song of the interview- Forget me not "I'm coming home real soon, yes you'll be the only one for me"
OH WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN
What are they singing at 2:42 btw they're not broke up. Last anyone has heard is Joy wants to tour. John said he's toured out and wants a break after promoting their debut for 2 years.
Jeriah Jewell is been like 5 years lol
Pleaaaaasssseee come to Toronto!
Ahhhh, nice to know things are at least seemingly back to normal.
Please come to Canada...Vancouver Island is Beautiful and WE WANT YOU!

This makes me so unbelievably sad 🥺
How could you guys have destroyed this :( so sad, but i still love you guys. Please rearrange the tours!
John Paul is the voice ,he needs no one he stands alone
The two were extremely good together..on their own they are good but thats all
I'm trying to figure out if they're sending some sort of subtle message that they still might want to tour or whether they're just messing with our minds :/
They were so good, why did they break up?
Dynamic Documentation
their smiles are so sad omgee:/
this kind of makes me want to cry :(
I totally think they should do a version of wayfaring stranger!!
Strange she doesn't wear it on her second finger in the earlier videos...
Joy wears her wedding ring on her second finger on her left hand.
They are modern renaissance writers/singers. Who knows. Maybe their connection is from a past life of being travelling minstrels together.
amazing!! :)

Blackout Lilyx his stuff is amazing. hers is very far from the civil wars.
lol I almost said the exact same thing on the last song I just listen too..
Yes, I know what you mean, but everything they did started all have that same haunted feeling so maybe they just all neededa break
sometimes people got too much history
They both have amazing instruments separately - but neither voice is unique on its own. The magic happens when they harmonize and create together! IMO
So can I fast-forward to May 1st, orrrr....?
THEY HAVE A NEW ALBUM COMING OUT!!
Please tell me this means something like you're not breaking up for good because you are too good and I need to see you live and OH PLEASE I'M COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS TO MAY 1ST GUYS

why the fuck did they have to break up as a duo goddamn the chemistry is real
my theory is that the chemistry got too real that they had to break up~
Arthur Jia I agree.
it's old videos
How can they not fall in love?
Is it just me, or is she missing a ring...?
hint, hint. ;)
Nossa o cara parece Johnny Depp

They’ve planed eveything
