- Battle season has finally reached New York City!
Today is the moment of truth for many Battle DJs out there. All the hours, days, weeks, months of practice will come down to 6 minutes of reckoning on the stage of Webster Hall just a few hours from now.
Man, as I sit hear, readying myself to head on over to watch this year's DMC NYC regional, I can't help but think back to some of my favorite battle DJs of all time. I have quite a few and among them would definitely have to be Mix Master Mike.
His aggressive yet clever approach to creating a battle routine made it hard for any competitor who drew his number in a competition. Mix Master Mike was the epitome of a Battle DJ. - เพลง

When I was 18, I went to a friends HS graduation party in Sacramento and when I walked in....guess who was doing a friend's favor and DJing the party. Mixmaster!
So the best part of the 1992 battle came after this, when the (undeserving) winner of the 1991 battle, DJ Supreme, came out and challenged Mike to a post-battle battle for true supremacy, declaring that he'd prove himself a true Superman by defeating the new Superman. Mike dominated him so badly that before the battle was even over, Supreme turned off his turntable and walked head down, shoulders slumped, Charlie Brown style, offstage. I have that somewhere on a VHS tape and if I find it I'll convert it and share it on TH-cam.

ok now i just had to watch this again. the winner was mike hands down. the crowd wasn't disrespectful they were just callin it like it was. you had to be hard back then. wasn't none of this mailin in a pre recorded set, this shxz was live. and they weren't a bunch of crybabies worried about hurting someones feelings, we were brought up better than that. if you didn't win, you sucked it up, moved on, PRACTICED, and tried harder the NEXT TIME. so cry me a river. you bunch of soft as puxxies

Mix Master Mike is a beast on the wheels of steel, a true one-off in his style.
mike was ahead of his time......I'm not saying he was abducted by aliens and given these "out of this world" skills (for 92) but I'm not saying he wasn't.

Honda is a great DJ who's paid his dues. It just was not his day, and I doubt he realized how unorthodox Mike would be.

Rough crowd. MMM is one of my favorite DJs of all time and was a big influence on me getting my first turntables and mixer back in 01. That being said, respect to Dj Honda who is also great DJ with skill on the decks and producing. Honda did his thing to get where he came from, this was just MMMs night and he came with the dopeness as usual.
Charisma is a huge factor here, Mike wins on all fronts pretty much. I liked Honda though.

Id like to say Honda lost his edge when they booed him but Mike'd arsenal vs Honda's? Sorry, Honda lost the war before it even began. His only win here was the opportunity and privilege of sharing the stage with Mike. Thanks for sharing this with us Rob.

Mike is ridiculous and built for battles this this. He brought it all. Honda was kinda getting down that second round and didn't deserve to that from the crowd. Both go down as legends!

Honda, who crossed the sea and got into the enemy territory, has the soul of a samurai. Mike, who understands the show and is familiar with how to charm, won, but technically Honda surpasses Mike. I respect both of them.

Fact: Everyone in this battle got booed except MMM. Same for Doctor Dre as host. The crowd was just fuckin with MMM more than everyone else and he could do no wrong.
Mike was the hometown fav and Honda wasn't that established in the states yet . I am guessing that's why they was hating.
That’s when DJs use records and did real mixes now everything is software and all you gotta do is hit the sync button and and you got a mix and throw in some effects.
Beat juggling not as fun as cutting beats. Hondas skills amazing. MMM was better but Honda was doing some crazy technical shit.

Honda was technically hitting every beat with no mistakes and came with it as a better dj. Look at mix master mike, it sounds good overall but Honda could do those gimmicks and more.
if mike clearlywon round 1 but honda came back in 2.... ppl booing keeps you from hearing how clean the cuts are... ppl went nuts when mike was mixing n towing tith his hat etc taunting honda... that gave mike props but it suppose to be about the cuts n blends.

BUT I HAVE TO SAY... AND IN SOME SEMBLANCE OF A DOOSHEY "OPINION" OR "PERSPECTIVE" OR WHAT EVER YOU WANT TO SAY,(AND LIKE YOU CARE ANYWAY!), THAT IN WATCHING THIS... I FORGOTTEN HOW MUCH AND JUST AS MUCH ,,,,"ONE OF THE GODS" ALSO WAS DJ. Mixmaster Mike is a showman, he won because he knows how to get a reaction from the crowd. Everything he did was easy even for 1992, he’s just larger than life on stage and that’s what people want to see. On a technical level Honda spanked him all over that stage
