    I really got the sense that when he said, "Doctor, I let you go" that this was also Peter saying that to his time as The Doctor.

      I think all of the speech was Peter talking to Jodie about being the Doctor and finally letting it go.

    I was struck by how good Capaldi was at giving monologues, even acting alone, without sounding full of himself, as well as the contrast to his ability to play the Doctor as someone who's just that bit full of himself. Such a great actor.

    "The Doctor fell out of the Tardis." Weirdest . . . sentence . . . ever . . .
    But aren't Timelords invincible for 14 or 16 hours after regeneration? Like when Ten got his hand cut off? So she could survive the fall . . .

    I agree with you about this story. To tell the truth I think we needed a regeneration that wasn't "grand". Many long time fans still feel that Peter Davison's regeneration in 'Castrovalva' was one of the best of all time. Peter Capaldi deserved a nice personal story, as opposed to saving the universe etc.

  • @FallingGalaxy
    @FallingGalaxy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    Well, if you remember when there is a regeneration happening even afterwards for a little while, Time Lords still seem to have that regeneration energy to heal with (Ten's hand, River being shot by Nazis, for instances) so I'm sure she'll be fine.

    You little chat at the end brought me to tears Lauren. All I can say is that your feelings about Doctor Who, what the show means to you and how it impacts you emotionally resonate with so many people, including myself. You summed it all up perfectly. Even now in 2022 and beyond, I hope, no matter what, Doctor Who goes on.
    Ps. Peter Capaldi is also my favourite Doctor.

    I actually sat through his regeneration with a great big smile on my face, the entire scene was just a testament to how far 12 had gotten from his old pessimistic self. Peter Capaldi's Doctor has managed to become my favorite among the New Doctors so far, and might even be my favorite including the Old Doctors too (or at the very least neck and neck with Big Finish Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy).
    Here's hoping to a fantastic run with Jodie Whittaker, as well as Chris Chibnall!

    Oh Lauren, lovely sharing a re-viewing with you. I've loved Peter Capaldi's Doctor from his very first episode and today, reacted exactly as you did: I bawled my eyes out. (Never apologize for having kindhearted feelings.) I wasn't aware that so many people want to discontinue the show. Maybe because I live in the US, my perspective is a little different but I thought the Big Problem was everybody hating Steven Moffat and when he started bringing in different writers & directors, the haters then focused their ire on Peter Capaldi (a brilliant actor and being a life-long Whovian himself, he brought a real understanding to the character). Huw Fullerton wrote a wonderful article in "Radio Times" about the 12th Doctor's final goodbye speech. Because I wrote down little bits & pieces of Doctor Who's Capaldisms over the years, I really got a kick out of all the callbacks. I'm sure you noticed them on your second viewing. One last thing, I knew ppl were being ridiculous about Jody being the" politically correct" choice for the already too politicized Doctor Who universe, which is one reason I think the First Doctor was incorporated into this episode. Sadly, they couldn't let go of their prejudices and rigid-thinking while watching the special. There was no malicious intent in the depiction of the First Doctor. If anything it seemed he & Lethbridge-Stewart were treated with fondness and everything right with nostalgia. I watched "Doctor Who" in college. Hated it (killer daffodils, really?). In the 80s, I had a boyfriend who refused to let me write off Doctor Who. We watched "Whovies", old tapes, and PBS. The only thing I liked about those shows was how much they reflected pop culture and the mores of the time. The so-called male chauvinism expressed by the First Doctor and (Lethbridge-Stewart for that matter) is fairly typical of the early 60s. Look at "Star Trek". Some of the things Kirk and Spock say are cringe-worthy but you can't really call them sexist pigs. I don't understand calling people names when they don't share the same ideas or behaviors. Sorry about the length. Thanks for your posts! Your insights, as always, are spot on and I'm not just saying that cuz I agree with everything you say ;)

    I've watched a pile of these reaction videos and none of them have left in the entire conversation between The Doctor, Bill and Nardole. It's one of the specials best moments and it gets left on the TH-cam cutting floor. "You're just memories held in glass. Do you know how many of you I could fill? I would shatter you. My testimony would shatter all of you. A life this long, do you understand what it is? It's a battlefield, like this one, and it's empty. Because everyone else has fallen."

    • @DCFCfanatic
      @DCFCfanatic 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it's the writers response to the haters out there who didn't like that the Doctor is now a woman. The Tardis are the haters. the Tardis is actually shaking up and down trying to spill out the Doctor because it's rejecting her. it doesn't want the Doctor because it's a woman. So now the Doctor Lady is going to have to get that Tardis to approve of her and accept her. along the way, she'll end up getting her new companions.

      DCFCfanatic I think you're reading into it wayy too deep. I interpreted it simply as the TARDIS not recognizing the Doctor and instead mistaking it to be an unauthorized stranger.

    • @invertin
      @invertin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think both of you are reading into it too deep. Why would the TARDIS care that the Doctor is female if Timelords don't care? I think the TARDIS knew it was about to blow up and kicked the Doctor out to save her.
      OR. Maybe she just fell. Always possible for the Doctor to just fall.

    I loved the episode. I really hope they don't abandon the Tardis for the whole season. Like I know that previous Doctor's were stuck on earth but I just much prefer the Doctor in the Tardis. Also, it would be annoying to kick Jodie, being the first female doctor, off the tardis, her very first season. Just feels like the first season at least we should see her in the tardis. So i hope she gets her tardis back by the end of her first episode.
    p.s your reactions are beautifully genuine. And I believe you have an incredible love for the show. I cried terribly during this episode, I admit. And watching your reaction, i cried again because I felt your pain in having to let go of twelve... He was my Doctor as well.

    when the video disappeared i saw your bed behind it, and i thought the falling woman would land softly. then i realize that wasnt in the video, it was your bed not part of the video.
    I use to Watch Doctor who when i was very young (the old version), its refreshing knowing they revived this show

  • @huh98
    @huh98 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So about whether or not she'll have to regenerate when she lands. No. She's within the first 24 hours of her regeneration meaning she'll just heal. It's a lot like how Tennent regrew his hand when it was cut off during his first episode. This video was a treat. I thought you were awesome. I will totally be sticking around. You make good content.
    As far as people being upset about the new Doctor. That will fade. Every Doctor has his (and now her) naysayers. A lot of people don't take change well which is strange when you think about how Doctor Who always changes and becomes something a bit different than the last incarnation. I think season 11 will be brilliant. I wasn't sure at first about the new showrunner but after hearing Chibnell (I'm quite sure I'm spelling his name wrong) talk about the show, I felt a lot more at ease. The new guy really loves Doctor Who much like Moffat does. That's always a good sign.
    I was wondering a few things, first have you seen the classic series? If not, I'd love to see your reactions to some of the beloved stories of the classic era. If you've seen the classic series maybe you could do some top 10 lists, telling us your favorite Doctors and what's your personal favorite stories from both the classic and new era of the show. Anyhoo, I loved this video and I can't wait to see what you put out next.

    It's ok Lauren. I cried too when Clara returned, and when Bill & Nardole hugged the Doctor one last time. And when the Doctor said, "Doctor, I let you go". This episode got to me because, my memories of everyone I knew grewing up gets me emotional and it's hurts my heart, literally. When I get emotional, my heart is really in pain. So, I decide to let my memories of them go. Its just too much pain for me. I get too emotional. But Bill is right, memories are important to us. They keep us alive and happy. I know we're gonna miss Capaldi as the Doctor, but we'll see him again everywhere.
    I still miss the 4th Doctor and 9th Doctor, but I always remember their adventures. I know Jodie Whittaker will be Spectacular as the new Doctor. Remember, women can do anything, especially playing Doctor Who. You're gonna be alright.

    Its within the first 15 hours of her regeneration, so falling 10,000ft or so will be survivable. Unless they have something swooping in, or she lands on a passing aeroplane. Quite frankly the options of what happens next are endless. The main problem is, we're going to have to wait months.

    Loved your heartfelt commentery on the episode. I have my own observation concerning the negativity surrounding Jodie assuming the role of the Dr and its this...
    When Peter says in his goodbye speech.. "hate is always foolish" .. I think he was making a reference to those who have been very negative concerning the new Dr without seeing what she and the new team can bring to the series. I, for one am looking forward to 2018 and seeing where it goes.

    I enjoyed your reaction, although I would have liked to have seen more. Once again your helped bridge gap autism puts between my thoughts and feelings by allowing me to experience it second hand with you. It took me a bit longer to get used to Capaldi as the Doctor than you did... I've been watching the show a bit longer than you have. This was a very moving episode... and even the ring falling off the Doctor's regenerated finger was a callback to the first doctor's first regeneration. I would love it if you did reactions to the classic who series episodes too... but I expect you've already seen them.
    One other thing... it appears that each regeneration improves the Doctor's body. For example, Tennant's "Fighting Hand." The Fourth Doctor died from a fall... since then no fall has killed the Doctor, including Tennant when he jumped out of a bloody space ship and fell through a skylight.

    Also, Lauren, did you notice what theme was used after the regeneration?

    The Doctor can survive the fall because during the first few hours after a regeneration, a Time Lord/Time Lady is basically immortal.

    Peter Capaldi was in my dream inside a lucid dream version of my living room giving me advice on something not about acceptance of a female doctor but something to do with me probably on choosing another face after Whittaker we had a few cans of lager broke out the brandy we sat on a couple of fold away chairs he also had his guitar leaning on it out in my back garden but I also had that feeling of having that exact same dream before with him which is quite weird but in a very excellent way it’s not everyday I get to dream with The Doctor inside my mind I’ve also found strange photos with people who look exactly like some of the cast members who have appeared on the show like Ashildr Murals of the First, Twelfth, Tenth and Eleventh Doctor’s faces on the walls of my house which have been formed from the paint that it was made from which can only be seen from my perception unfortunately its starting to flake away now it has approximately been there since the house was built in 1938/1939 just before the Second World War which is another strange thing I seem to remember this house being built as I was one of the men who constructed my own house and another good question is “who” was that man that I was, I guess I’ll never know

    There will never be a time that we don't need the doctor. So even with al this negativity about Jodie.. No especially because all the negativity we need the doctor. Capaldi is my doctor. But i embrace the new. Bring it on Jodie. x
    Oh, and i cried like mad as well.. ^^

    Chibnall obviously knows what he’s doing. I’ve heard a lot of people complain about how the TARDIS keeps crashing after regenerations, but for every reaction video I’ve seen of this episode by people who were apprehensive about Jodie, the moment she falls out of the TARDIS they’re immediately concerned. Rule #1, if you wanna make the audience like your main character, make them suffer. Easier to root for an underdog. And he went for it right out the gate.

  •  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What happened at the end, was basically the TARDIS having a bit of a temper tantrum and throwing Jodie's Doctor out because the TARDIS was pretty much damaged again and also thanks to the Doctor regenerating has to regenerate too. ^^;; I mean: It is similar to what happened when David Tennant's Doctor regenerated into Matt Smidt's Doctor. ^^; The only difference is, is that this time the Doctor IS thrown out and is falling from a great height this time. ^^;

    "I just regenerated and have leftover regeneration energy" can do pretty much anything, we'll see how she survives this but it may use that.
