Thanks to huien tsang, we have very elaborate descriptions of ancient india, as lot of our ancient records are lost. This is a very good account of india
You can learn a lot about it by reading Buddhist suttas where you will find which gods were worshipped at the time by brahmins, what the customs were etc (for example, everyone thought that buddha was an outcaste by having a shaved head, but after buddha's revolution shaved heads became mainstream of hindu spiritual traditions).

Hope you all can include huien tsangs visit in northeast india. He gave breif description of the cities and the empire (kamrupa) of assam and king bhaskar varman
Not northeast INDIA. He visited mainly north india
@@Truth-lover1794 he did visit north east india too, you can read the book by him, he mentioned kamarupa(modern day assam), and its capital pragjyotishpur and gave details of the people, language and the place as well as weather. He did a quick visit to north east because bhaskar varman was inviting him, and huen tsang also visited the near by kingdoms, samata kingdom i suppose (northern Bangladesh) and etc.

Exaclty! He gave brief details, like size of empire, language, foods, behaviour and stature of the people, and weather of kamarupa. And gave details of its capital pragjyotishpur, like its growing foods, canals, temples.
He also came to United Bengal and taught different techniques of growing paddy.
