Biking Las Vegas - Red Rock Canyon Loop

  • Von and I head out of Las Vegas city and into the real 'merica! Alta Drive out to Red Rock Loop from Downtown is brilliant! I was going to cut this video down to 1/2 the size but the scenery was just too good to leave out. Apologies for the wind noise, no music, and general wobbles with the camera... this wasn't what we were in town for so it was such an unexpected experience on two wheels.

    Okay, that's really freaking cool. Never really considered biking in downtown Vegas, let alone biking out of the city and into the desert. Now I have another reason to go back to Vegas.

    Loved the video! I've driven the loop a few times and done some short hikes in Red Rock a few years ago whilst there for work, sadly before I got into cycling. I've got a 1.5m panorama of the canyon, looking across at the red rocks from the Pine Creek Canyon trail head parking lot, that I took myself printed on canvas hanging on the wall to remind me of Red Rock! If I ever do get to go back, I'm definitely going to do this ride - you & Von have inspired me!

    First of all I must say, the young lady is a beast in beast mode. I've lived in Las Vegas for many years and that is a beautiful ride in April. As locals we tend to take for granted what people travel for miles or kilometers in your case to see. I've made that ride many times. As far as seeing Jesus? Take that ride is July when temps will be 115*c. You'll see Jesus, the 12 Apostles, UFO's, Satin and many other things. Your video was spectacular and tomorrow it will be 64*c and a great day to put in some miles, or km depending on your accent. Peace!

      no no not sketchy...we love it! I'd you have some time "turtle head" mountain is about a 4 hour up/down hike around 5,000ft (8000 KM?) and we'll worth it. you will see an ocean of RED when up top! for a zippy chap like yourself it may be 3 hours up/down. *keep on mind your viewers would rather see SOMETHING for a day in the life versus NOTHING - you are not in the cinematography business (that I know of) and these "rough" videos is what we like since they are real world. < just as a heads up for encouragement.

      I'm trying to convince my wife to head up to Elephant Rock Century to ride with some friends in Colorado later this year. I've heard there is some great riding in Boulder and may go check it out (assuming we can move after the event and with the elevation). I think she wanted to see a Rapha shop too and heard there was one in the region. Plus a few... recovery drinks brewed in the area too.

    • @Fidasaind
      @Fidasaind 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Want to do a Europe trip with my wife one day. But thankfully we have a lot of great things to see in the US. Just in my area Bartlett Lake near Phoenix is still the coolest view I've seen on the bike so far (descending at least. The climb out of the lake is a little less fun). Went riding near the rim of the Grand Canyon about 2 years ago. Some of the areas away from town on San Diego Century (so San Diego County outside of the cities). I've seen footage from the Jens Voigt Gran Fondo. And have been to high desert in Flagstaff and Petrified Forest by bike. I think the thing I really want to see in Europe by bike are some of the race routes, some of the small towns, and then the history of the cities. But in terms of landscape, there is so much to see near home that I want to make the trip across the pond one day. But am not in a huge rush... yet.

    Always windy here. But the scenic Loop is one of my favorite weekly rides. As well as the subject of my own video of it during the shut down. But we have a decent sized TH-camr community here in Vegas. Next time you come out we should make it a group ride. We can show you somethings tourist don't usually get to see. Thank for the content Shane.

    • @younglee805

      I'm planning on doing this ride in a few weeks, is there any special check in area for cyclist or do you wait in the line with all the cars? We will be staying at the campgrounds near by. Is it possible to do early morning rides in the loop before they even open?

    • @SinCityCycling702
      @SinCityCycling702 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@younglee805 Right now all cars require a reservation. But bikes don't. You'll still have to pay the 5$ to get in. But that covers you for the day. They open at 6am and at this time of the year it's still a bit dark at 6. I would NOT recommend doing "The Loop" in the dark. Some real fast sections as well as wildlife possibly on the drive early in the morning. That being said I do know people who have done it in the dark. However if you do decide to go before or after hours. You'll either A. have to climb the gate (or slide under) or B. go in the back entrance and ride it in reverse. you'll still need to crawl under the gate when finished. Unless you do a double lap to go back out the exit. That will entail about 4,000 ft of vertical climbing for a double lap. So be prepared to suffer. You can fill water bottles at the visitors parking bathroom area. I have a video of each direction up on my page if you wish to take a look at both routes. Here's the drive in reverse link.
      th-cam.com/video/ksKO2yxQFjY/w-d-xo.html
      and the forward link. which is mostly the "fun" downhill section.
      th-cam.com/video/MdjgdAjsbl8/w-d-xo.html
      Have fun, ride safe.
