    They both look great. The one thing I did notice on the Saturn version is the bomb, lightning orb, and flame orb underneath the health bars are animated. On the Playstation version their not.

    Possibly the best PS1 port as it's so close to the Saturn version.

      In terms of capcom fighting game ports it’s this, alpha 3 and dark stalkers 3 that were pretty damn impressive on ps1 without an extra ram expansion. Neither of these ports had all the animations and cut load times like the Saturn did but they did add extra game modes and content to make up for it. This game had a whole edit mode on ps1 which was pretty cool and worth checking out

    Minor differences in loading times here and there, animated item icons on the Saturn, mesh (Sat) vs. transparency (PS1) on the dialog boxes, minor color tones on the credits wallpapers, different colored font for the ranking initials input, and that's it. Both versions are pretty identical and very close to each other this time, making this one of Capcom's better and funnier games in both consoles.

      I have the PSOne version, one of the most noticeable differences is that it lacks the Ghost n Goblins death sprites, and also the way you hit the opponents and make them turn around the Earth, as seen in the Arcades version.

    Saturn port is slightly better in animations and minus loading time due to the 1MB ram cart expansion, but the PS1 port does a pretty good job. This game if you hadn't played yet is worth checking out, even if you're not a fighting game fan. It's a super simple game to pickup

    Part 2: Saturn vs PS1
    Part 3: Saturn w/4MB vs PS1

      Sorry. I think you're right 👍
      I got mixed up due to:
      1. Game can run minus 4MB
      2. Most games that accomplish this only need a further 1MB
      Thus, I presumed it was a 3MB mode.

    When properly programmed for the older Sega 2d games actually featured full transparency effects... believe it or not the Sega Saturn can indeed do these effects with a dev team that takes their time to fully study the hardware.
    BTW this game was made not to require the expansion RAM Catridges so it works in three modes... part of the reason was that Capcom Japan was noticing all to well how the TRAITORS managing Sega of America were simply rejecting many Japanese 2d games from being released in the U.S.A.... the same thing that got a certain guy named Bernie Stolar "let go" quickly by Sony Computer Entertainment America because there were definetly complaints when MANY 2d Japanese PS1 games were being rejected from release in the U.S. in 1995.
    Some of those 2d games actually got released in S.C.E.E.'s territory... in the U.K. and Europe PAL regions... that should tell you a lot about the state of the Sega Saturn back then as we the Sega Saturn owners who purchased the Saturn were pretty much NOT being supported... it's no wonder the Dreamcast failed apart from creating huge financial losses and since it was a Sega of America pressured idea that the certain fanboy books refuse to admit what we knew in the 90s well.
    Basically Capcom wanted to get this game, and Marvel Super Heroes released in the U.S.A. where Sega of America's management staff made up stories about why the 1MB RAM Cartridge could not be released... but Bernie Stolar had no problems asking for a faster, more expensive 56Kbps tech into the Netlink... a rather useless device in North America and a huge waste of money because the 1MB and 4MB RAM Cartridges actually boosted videogame potential on the Sega SAturn which is also sad about Pocket Fighter... if it had been built to require the 4MB RAM Cart... this game would have been much quicker feeling... like SFZ3.
    Basically if at least the 4MB RAM Cartridge had been released in the U.S. in 1997... by 1998 we actually would have gotten MORE games for the Sega Saturn that would require the 4MB RAM Cart and the Sega Saturn would have made a comeback... especially when you still need from one year to two years to make a game that required the 4MB RAM Cart.. instead of forcing making Dreamcast which just killed the company.

      Saturn didn't have the library to complete with the PS1 especially from the likes of Square, Namco, Midway, EA,SCE, Konami, and bunch of other developers especially after 1997. Just having 2-5 extra 2d fighters wouldn't have helped them that much.
      Sega was losing money making the Saturn work in NA and PAL regions. The thing that would've helped the Saturn was to never make 32X, don't launch in a surprise launch, make better NA games, and also still support the genesis and game gear.
      Dreamcast needed redesign on controllers and still kept the same launch time with Saturn support being strong.

    Why do Saturn games have worse sound quality over PS1? Is there a way to decompress sounds on the Saturn?

    • @SomeOrangeCat
      @SomeOrangeCat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The hardware developers basically dumped the system into the laps of most third party developers and said "Here, you figure it out! It can do all this amazing stuff, but we can't be arsed to show you how to best utilize it!"

    • @Tempora158
      @Tempora158 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Saturn's audio chip lacks the ability to play back compressed sound samples in real time, whereas the PlayStation's can. Given the same amount of RAM, the PlayStation can fit more sound data into that RAM than the Saturn because PlayStation audio samples can be stored in a compressed state in RAM to reduce their size and its hardware can decompress in real time for on demand playback, the same way a modern CPU can play back an MP3 file in real time without having to take a few seconds to decompress a sizable chunk of the MP3 into RAM (i.e. buffering) before playback begins. The Saturn can't do that, and the additional RAM it does have over the PlayStation isn't enough to store uncompressed audio that sounds just as good as the compressed audio of the PlayStation.
