Ive been enjoying your videos here in the US, i ran across the premature decomposition of aftermarket rubber bushes after one driving season! I now use RED poly bushes, so everyone can see theyve been done properly and wont need redoing. Im in the middle of redoing all of the front end on an '80 LE, bushes, brakes, rotors, caliper rebuild one side at a time due to cramped quarters. My engine is out of the car so ill be using a restraint underneath the floor jack and over the lever arm to compress the spring. Ive never done front bushes with an engine out of the car, this should be interesting. Im always amazed at how clean your floor is, mine is like a giant Rorsach test. Keep up the videos, thanks, Steve from PA
Great video, I recently bought a 1971 MGB GT. It was all over the road, a death trap! The bushes had disintegrated. I have bought poly bushes, I fitted them to a previous Rover SD1, and they transformed the handling. Unfortunately, I decided to get everything powder coated, and the guy has had the crossmember and other parts for over a month!
Thank you, I've done these polys to every front end since having to redo rubber bushes after ONE YEAR!. Much stiffer ride but worth the effort entirely. Good job sir
Glad to see you back working on the MGB! I first came across your channel when I was searching TH-cam for MGB content. I got hooked, and have watched every video since. But I'm happy to see you back on the B.
Great video. Sometimes it's a bit easier if you're just replacing the bushings to remove the bottom bolt from the kingpin assembly. I also like to grease it up as well. Be careful not to get grease on any rubber, it turns rubber to mush!
There are greases that dont attack rubber and are food grade and waterproof also. so far i've used superlube without issues in wheel bearings and other suspension components. just make sure to check compatibility.
Good job Ross, I really enjoy your videos, seen them all. With a bushing change, you'll likely need a toe adjustment. because of the stiffer bushings, you'll likely need a little less toe in. I'd like to see a video of the procedure you would use.....
I’m not saying they don’t improve certain aspects of the car but found them a bit too harsh and noisy and went back to standard rubber. For the type of driving I do I got no advantage from them, I’m getting to the point in my life where I prefer comfort and refinement over performance 😊
Couple decades ago I installed new poly bushings on my 240Z. The handling was much better with the poly bushings, but they squeaked so loudly I couldn't hear anything else. They were so loud I had to replace them with OEM bushings. I'm going to replace the bushings on my MGB. Now I know what can I do to prevent polys from squeaking.
That should drive great. The downside to poly is they need to be kept lubricated so unless you install zerk fittings to the middle of each hinge you'll have to take them apart for greasing periodically.
I've never known poly bushes to need lubrication. I have the same set in the front of my beetle for the last 11 years and they're perfect and have never been lubricated.
I had seen one fellow who wraps the bushings with PTFE tape to eliminate squeaking. He swears by it. He greases, wraps and greases again before install. I don't see a problem with your install but as you say it's TH-cam. Everybody has an opinion as well as an.... You know.
That's an interesting idea. That said, my bushes aren't squeaking at all. I've never had an issue with poly bushes squeaking. I have with rubber bushes though.
The bottom fulcrum pin just came out! That never happens. They are rusted solid on the distance sleeve after a week normally. I have always had to grind off the nut and bolt head to get the lower arms off. You had just done the uprights or you grease the assembly religiously and never drive in the wet!
As the old saying goes, “reinstallation is the reverse of removal, only you swear in different places.” This gives me hope that I can continue to swear as I try to make to 1973 MGB-GTs into one functional vehicle. Might have to stop watching and start doing though.

Une vidéo très bien faite et claire pour changer les silent blocs de suspension avant sur une MGB. Merci pour ce travail.
De rien.
Great to see you training him young!
Thanks for the comment about superlube grease! I never knew that!

Classic. 11:07
Sometimes I crack myself up! :D
Just bought a MGB GT been watching all your videos for tips and advice. Thanks 😊
You're welcome! Best of luck with your new car!
Useful to watch someone doing it. Thanks
Glad to help
Just done mine recently and yes does make a difference, I fitted recon shocks as well. Love the MG content
I changed the oil in my front shocks. I'll probably end up doing the same on the back.
@@Endfloat My shocks were leaking so found reconditioned part exchange for £40. Couldn’t resist that price, bargain I thought
@@BrianGibbons1966JulesRimet yeah that's a good deal! The oil probably cost half that alone!
After watching this I'm going to tackle this on my 74 "B", proper job, liked and subscribed 👍
Best of luck with it!

You know yourself, there's always something that needs to be done! I'll have more MG videos coming out soon too.
@@Endfloat You've got a permanent fan here in Gloucester..........Massachusetts, USA.
@@ThePerformanceVideo Glad to have you along!
Great video.
Thank you!
Like the retro "we can rebuild it" quote.
The 600 quid man.
Great and informative video as always Ross.

Yeah but to replace the top bushes you'd have to remove that bolt anyway.

My procedure is to bring it to a garage with the proper alignment fixtures and let them do it to be honest. It's small money for peace of mind.
I fitted V8 bushes to mine. The steering and suspension is fab, but everything is like new so not surprised
Hey
Can you share your source for MGBGT v8 poly bushes please? Thanks
@@brillobox1964 I just used standard V8 bushes

Is it possible that Lucas makes the rubber bushings?
I don't know to be honest!
Great video as usual Ross, where did you get your new bushes from?
Just MGs in Northern Ireland. I buy most of my parts there.
@@Endfloat thank you!
You should have slackended the shock obsorber top arm pinch bolt , then kingpin top bushes would slip out easier, Save damage when using hammer!
You are the worst child minder out there. Love it
Well, he is my son, and it's nice to have him there with me! He was happy enough and was certainly getting my attention between takes!

This suspension is more tedious than removing the engine and replacing the clutch.

There are times that swearing is essential! 😁 And yes, stop watching TH-cam and get out and do it!
doesn't Polly bushes give a harder ride
They do a bit but it's a small trade off for much better handling and better longevity.
