Growing up in the US, I did not get to see this as a youngster, but I am so glad to get to see it now as an adult. This was really well done and pretty creepy at times. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
First time ever seeing this film. I found it very creepy but it also makes me feel nostalgic because I recognise this music type & the ambience created for this film I remember back in the 70's people where into mysticism occult things & how they went about their lives, there are many nuances in this film that bring back some memories where I was curious of all that until I learned some hard lessons about the forces of darkness & have been aware of it since. I was a kid at the time & forgot what evil looked like until I saw this film. If people aren't careful & protect themselves, they may find themselves surrounded by evil with no way out. Scary if you ask me.
Just Wikipedia’s this and apparently it’s considered (and I quote) “The series is today considered a landmark in quality children’s drama.” This version was made in 1976 by HTV . In America it could be seen on Nickelodeon in the early 80’s as part of the series “The Third Eye.” 😊
This was made in an era where children's TV, in the UK at least, often wasn't treated as 'just' - a lot of shows, such as this one, could easily have been made for an adult audience.
several minutes in of this brilliant whodunit for kids, a throwaway line by Matt. It resonated with me anyway.. Tanscribing the latin inscription on the picture. i DENY THE EXISTANCE OF THAT WHICH EXISTS. It freaked me out anyway.
Mums net would have an absolute melt down if anyone suggested this was for young adults today. Back in 76 when this was first shown it was fine for my generation, traumatising and creeping out kids was pretty standard because they were doing it to the adults as well, Threads was finally re-shown on BBC4 last week, its terrified another generation about the actual results of nuclear fall out ! Pulling punches just didn't exist, they call us the lost generation, I think I prefer the pragmatic and practical generation, shocking or upsetting us takes some serious effort.
Mums net haha, sounds like it is there to ruin all the fun. Loved this when I was 10 but missed bit chunks of it so was wonderful to see. The 70s and early 80s were so good for creepy British drama for kids. We'll never see the likes of it again I bet!
The old actors had so little to work with, you had to be a good actor to keep people engaged. Modern actors have endless effects to distract people and they end up not being very good actors. We loae a lot in our quest for advancement. The wise man would be able to make the best of both, but I see no sign of that. The old actors trained in Shakespear, and you cannot get more demanding than Shakespear, consequently by the time they ended up doing this sort of work for the BBC or others, they really knew about real acting. I miss the quality of these type of actors. Even the carry on films had better acting than most of the modern actors.
having read through the comments - you do realise that we're all the same age. lovely old days. i remember my first office desk - it had a built in ash tray - ah, happy days.
Still one of the greatest telly shows for kids - genuinely scary, excellent cast, and not a single 'message', other than don't play with strange menhirs
Back when kids programmes didn't mind scaring the bejesus out of you. Even the public service announcements about staying away from lonely water were pants fillingly chilling
This is the kind of uncategorizable (horror? thriller? fantasy?) It's not really any of those, so maybe just "Brit Horror", I used to really love, and this is one of the absolute best'. Thank you for a wonderful upload!
It was a children's TV show, shown late afternoon around four or five o'clock as I recall, but it was from a time when they tried to raise us up rather than assume that as we were children they'd have to dumb things down. There was any series called The Changes which worked in a similar way - could've been an adult show, but was made for children's TV. That's not on TH-cam, but last time I looked it was available on DVD. You might be able to find it on a streaming service, I don't know.
Came here to read the comments from those who miss their youth and think that ridiculous (but fun) children’s dramas from the 1970s portray some kind of actual reality.
Seeing you all gathered here with our thoughts on that time, might I toss a hopeful question: Does anyone remember a painting show with a sweet lady using oils and q-tips to paint little bunnies and critters from her home? She'd say her inspiration came from the countryside animals visiting her backyard and Beatrix Potter stories. Does anyone remember her name, or the show's name? (feel free to answer anytime, even if it's miles in time from here, thank you ♡)
I listened to a few episodes of the modern BBC's pitifully bad, modern/woke version of Children of the Stones which I unhappily came across on Spotify but recognised nothing at all. I am very happy to have found the original series here on TH-cam so I can restore my memories of it.
Was it 'Return to the Stones' by any chance? It's a sequel novel to the original, written in 2015. Set 30 years after the original, but still with most of the same characters.
@@A..Shadow.. No, I was sure it was called Children of the Stones so went to check, and it was, but as the BBC captioned it, just "based on the Television serial" which I just discovered reading the blurb today. I'm glad you commented because I didn't know there was a sequel by the same author. I feel a trip to a bookshop coming on. Cheers.

indeed i was one of them in the 70s Stonedhenge free festival happy dazes 😇
Awesome work. Thankyou very much for posting this gem.
That's bloody Blake from B7 !
Thank you for uploading this great series. It brings back fond memories ❤. I've subscribed
That frantic singing is one of the most unsettling things I have ever heard
Growing up in the US, I did not get to see this as a youngster, but I am so glad to get to see it now as an adult. This was really well done and pretty creepy at times. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I never knew the opening to Father Ted was so spooky 😂
now then you
Careful now!
Down with this sort of thing!
😂
Bet that's an Aztec bar he's eating at the beginning.
Killer sideburns... definitely 70`s vibe.
WONDERFUL! great movie. must see.
First time ever seeing this film.
I found it very creepy but it also makes me feel nostalgic because I recognise this music type & the ambience created for this film
I remember back in the 70's people where into mysticism occult things & how they went about their lives, there are many nuances in this film that bring back some memories where I was curious of all that until I learned some hard lessons about the forces of darkness & have been aware of it since.
I was a kid at the time & forgot what evil looked like until I saw this film.
If people aren't careful & protect themselves, they may find themselves surrounded by evil with no way out.
Scary if you ask me.
Watched it as a 12 year old. Scary for its time. An HTV Classic
Great to see “Blake” in Avebury!
Oh that was great 👍🏻. Does anybody have any recommendations for something similar from the same period? Im hooked.
Timeslip
The Owl Service. And Shadows (which was a different ghost story every week), particularly the episode The Other Window.
@@RemoWilliams1227Those twins! I was in love with both of them....
@@jonathanmelia ♥️
@maldahar: There was a TV series called "A For Andromeda" ....... it was a long time ago (possibly 1970s or 1960s).
The whispering and eerie singing!
Great film. Reminds me of an episode from the Outer Limits.
I grew up watching gubbins like this. Love it !
even though this is just a silly kids movie it calls back a time of greater sanity, order and happiness
A time of strikes, race riots and power cuts. Hmm yes happy days…
Wasn't a movie. It took 7 weeks to watch this from start to end.
This movie brought so many 90s alternative songs to mind..
Wasn't a movie. Took 7 weeks to watch this.
An unusual movie. Loved it.
This didn't make it to the Netherlands back then and it predates us being able to watch British tv on cable. I'm going to enjoy this. It's got Blake!
@mistywolf312: I watched "Threads" last week too........I thought it was still banned by the BBC.
CGI is soulless
having read through the comments - you do realise that we're all the same age. lovely old days. i remember my first office desk - it had a built in ash tray - ah, happy days.
Still one of the greatest telly shows for kids - genuinely scary, excellent cast, and not a single 'message', other than don't play with strange menhirs
I was in college when this came out, i was studying to be a jubilee mug maker and thinking was this based on a true story. Juhaptergee
Back when kids programmes didn't mind scaring the bejesus out of you. Even the public service announcements about staying away from lonely water were pants fillingly chilling
I loved everything about this.
Thank you for uploading. What a brilliantly spooky gem.
I love everything about it with the exception of the strange vocals chanting. But when I account for the time period when this was made, it fits.
Agree the screeching and terrible music make is nearly impossible to enjoy
Ugh,the loud ,irritating vocals distract me so much that I can’t focus on movie because I’m writing this comment 😵💫🎶🧏🏻♀️🤨
Great series 👍😊
So glad I found this! 💖🙏🥰
Very Doctor Who(ish), but in a sort of mystical way, which we love. An enjoyable 'Way Back Booth' to the bygone Golden Era!
So good minimal effects but great acting from the leads it works so well
Came here to read the comments from those who miss their youth and think that ridiculous (but fun) children’s dramas from the 1970s portray some kind of actual reality.
This is just like an episode of Dr. Who! Obviously the same production team. My favorite era of Television.
Those stainless steel goblets they are using at the stone table. I got two as a wedding present when I got married in 1975 and I've still got them.
(feel free to answer anytime, even if it's miles in time from here, thank you ♡)
Wow watched this as a kid I'm 57 scared the life out of me!!!
Just watching it now interesting what it was about as I couldn't remember! Avebury !!
I listened to a few episodes of the modern BBC's pitifully bad, modern/woke version of Children of the Stones which I unhappily came across on Spotify but recognised nothing at all. I am very happy to have found the original series here on TH-cam so I can restore my memories of it.
Never knew there was a modern version. I can imagine what it’s like
💩
@affintlewoodlewix
Dripping with ' The message ' I would imagine.
@cornishplumber5051 Sadly, yes.
Cheers.
