My father is guyanese, i dont get to see him often but every time he comes back to the states to visit he brings me coconuts, sugar cane, and different treats from Guyana and salara is always my favorite❤❤ now I can make it at home and feel kind of closer to him in a way thank you
Aww I’m so glad I can help ... I will Be posting more recipes soon ... so we can keep that feeling ... I do hope you enjoy and please send me a pic when you do
Thank you for your recipes. Yesterday I made salara and it came out perfect 👌 Yummy in our tummy. My family enjoyed it. It was years ago since we had some. Thank You.
Just watched! Excellent explanations on how and what to do in simple understandable terms for 1st timer. Good teacher qualities.... Yummy yum! Thanks again. You rock it! Would love to give feedback when done. Cheers!
Very nice video! I remember as a little girl my dad and mom made this in guyana.., my little job was to brush sugar water on the red cake at the end! Thanks for mentioning you could put sugar water on it at the end... it's great! I will make this soon! Thanks
Aww such beautiful memories are always great to read about... I do hope you enjoy and don’t forget to subscribe and leave suggestions for videos you would love to see
You can but it will be a bit dryer... so I would suggest putting it on the stove with some sugar and a few drops of water to cook for a bit so the flakes don’t taste too dry
I'm thinking this wouldn't be great to give on a plate as a Christmas treat. 🙂 Do you use young (green) coconut or the older, hard one? Thanks for sharing!
i did explain in the video you can.. also as stated this is about personal preference... this way still produces a great Salara and may folks have tried this recipe and love it
For those persons who cannot use colouring like my grandson who loves salara but is allergic to food colouring I don't use colouring but I peel the brown skin and my only flavouring is almond extract. The coconut and sugar enhanced with almond is flavour enough
Wait! Hercules TV are you another Matthew? Ha I loves it, there's this young man from Guyana who cooks our local cuisine and desserts on TH-cam as well, you guys looks like your in the same age category,I must say your salara recipe looks delicious I will try it out and have a awesome day!
They look beautiful but I always thought Guyanese salara was flat (like a layered flap) instead of rounded. When rounded, it's more like how it's done in other countries.
Often time that is due to the layering process and some folks don’t put as much effort or sometimes the dough in the middle becomes soggy by the coconut so it doesn’t raise ... lol I am kinda of a perfectionist and I like to see the layered texture so that’s why I make them this way
Hello, when you say bake 180° is that celcius or farenheit? I live in the states and I believe you are in england? So just double checking just in case. Thank yiu
perfect

Cant we use the ready made coconut flakes?
You can but it will be a bit dryer... so I would suggest putting it on the stove with some sugar and a few drops of water to cook for a bit so the flakes don’t taste too dry
I love your end results like a pro
Man the juice is what give the dam thing flavor
Its the spices, sugar and everything you put into it does.. but ok
Será posible usar huevo en vez de mantequilla
What is in the mixed spice
It’s a blend of various spices but you can easily find it in any supermarket listed as “mixed spice”
Very nice!!
I love salara. My favorite. Just subscribed to your channel. Thanks for the video and beautiful demonstration 😍
Thank you very much

I'm thinking this wouldn't be great to give on a plate as a Christmas treat. 🙂
Do you use young (green) coconut or the older, hard one?
Thanks for sharing!
The older hard brown shell ones
Like really you must boil the coconut husk with the turn over
i did explain in the video you can.. also as stated this is about personal preference... this way still produces a great Salara and may folks have tried this recipe and love it

Make the salara for the first time came out beautiful but notice it burns little at the bottom.any tips for next time
Try baking at a lower temperature or put an oven proof dish with some water at the bottom of the oven. It should help
Could you use coconut milk? And please use fir your measurements cups or lbs instead of grams. Thank you.
What can u use instead of the mix spices im from suriname cant find that here
U can leave it out and just add a bit more cinnamon if you are using a sweet cinnamon
Anyone knows the origin or meaning of the name?
Please send the recipe

Thanks for the explanation. I'm not Guyanese but I've eaten salara in the past and it is delicious.
Hello, when you say bake 180° is that celcius or farenheit? I live in the states and I believe you are in england? So just double checking just in case. Thank yiu
It is Celcius
the milk and butter are the problem for me, I'm lactose intolerant, can I substitute for something else?
You can use water and just use a dairy free butter or shortening
I am so sorry about that. But I used oil instead of butter and warm water is just fine.
Nicely done I love you
Thank you very much
I was saying it just like turnovers but no dye
Why add naking powder you have yeast already i never use baking powder
Personal preference
Yum. Way mine?
OurSimpleLyfe next time
Nice
He is doing good 😊

Is Rollie pollie.
It's better to use a fork to mix your dry ingredients instead of a spoon.
We cook the coconut
A lot of people do that also but I just prefer it this way
