I do not talk to the saints that have passed, because I am not God. Scripture also instructs us that we should not be talking to any other spirits other than the holy Spirit.
We should not be talking to the dead as believers. Take heed to the warning in the scriptures or do as thou will versus His will.
No person has greater access to God than Jesus Christ and He alone is our mediator between us and God the Father (1 Timothy 2:5)
    God's word is final.
Anything outside of it is a man-made.
May God have mercy on us all.

I am protestant and I pray intercessional prayers to the Saints. Even though protestants don't typically do this, I have felt for years that it's similar to asking people I know to help me pray over certain things with me.

As an 'unborn' Orthodox the pride of Protestant poison still affects me from time to time, the struggle is real for me. The verse in Timothy (I won't quote it) has deep roots. For any other ex-protestants struggling with this I suggest looking up St. Silouan 'Keep your mind in hell and despair not'. The pride of a personal God is detrimental to the true unity found in the true Church, we (x-prots) need to lay our minipopism at the foot of the cross and walk away. The prayers of St. Silouan are a great strength to those of us who are inclined to the 'God I know' heresies. He's not 'my' Father in heaven, He's 'our' Father in heaven. We are His body (the One, True, Catholic & Apostolic) the Church. Lord have mercy, please have mercy for my outspokeness, Your will be done.

As I said "saints" are those who are saved who's God is Jesus Christ, saint means "separated" , not a dead person googling from heaven. The Bible clearly said that Christ is doing intersession for us from heaven, why does He need help of a dead person's soul? It is twisted trend that somone who is saint is somone who was so good on earth that has achieved some "superman" characteristics and after they died their soul have special abilities!!!!?????🤪 In heaven is telepathy, why then angel needs to bring prayers in their hands to God, if angels are ministering spirits who serve those on earth, not souls of dead in heaven, why they need to bring "up" prayer to God? It is simply false and twisted interpretation of the word "saint".

I am a former Eastern Orthodox convert, who eventually left it for the Gospel-- thank God. I would greatly recommend watching Joshua Schooping's videos here on TH-cam, which details the greater theology underlying Eastern Orthodoxy that is never told to inquires, and one only finds out much later. It's the same tactic that cults take in order to gain converts, and then slowly drip the heresy and idolatry in so that they will accept it later. Please, do extensive research into their actual theology and ecclesiology. The more you learn of their official doctrine, the more horrifying it is. As a former vehement believer and follower of Eastern Orthodoxy for years, knowing what I now know about their beliefs, practices, and official dogma (after having simply done extensive research into these matters while I was Eastern Orthodox), I can very confidently say that, if somebody consciously knows and believes all of the official dogma of the Eastern Orthodox organization, then they are unambiguously, objectively not a Christian. I cannot confidently speak to the average member of the lady across the world, who is often ignorant of these traditions and dogmas, but if somebody knows and consciously believes their official deeper theology and practices, then it truly bears no resemblance whatsoever to Christianity. Reading through the first 300 years of church fathers especially bears this out very clearly. Modern Day Eastern Orthodoxy simply does not resemble the early church at all, other than possibly a few superficial things.

But in my country, the orthodox church is deas. It has zero social influence, it barely has any spirituality, because it's all about material things. Few days ago I was in an orthodox monastery. Not a single monk was there, instead a man who works there, and who was only trying to sell us things. And he was saying things like, drink this water, it is for good health, or go there and make a circle around the table for good luck, and then leave some money overhere so God be mercury eith you. I was just watching my sister going through all of this and wondering where has orthodox christianity went... I honestly feel very sorry, I want orthodoxy to be based on real christian values. I want people to attend liturgy, instead of lighting few candles and then leaving the church. Less then 1% of orthodox believers attend sunday liturgy in my country. While the number of catholic christians is very small, those who are present, attend maybe around 30-40%. So we aren't also as we should be, but the difference is huge. Sometimes orthodox parents come to our church to baptize their children because in their Church is too much expensive (100 euro for one child). While in our church thr baptizm is free.

Protestants (low church; Evangelicals and Baptists mostly) from my experience seem to read Acts 10:34 in isolation (do they do keyword searches?) and not in context and stop there in why the Saints shouldn't have honor from anyone, not even God. They usually use the KJV given the wording of God being no respecter of persons. Thus they then believe they too are to be no respecter of persons. (I've even had that verse dropped on me to explain bad attitudes in correspondence.)
"34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:"

Okay let's began, the passage you quoting from revelation has nothing to do with heavenly saints interceding for us. But the prayers of the saints (people of God) ON EARTH bringing their Prayers to God (Revelation 12) it's not a intercession to the saints.
John 14:10 No one comes to the Father Except through me. Ik this passages is abour salvation, yet we see that no one can acess the Father through any means but Jesus.
1° Timothy 2:5 There's ONLY ONE intermediator beetwen man and God, which is Jesus Christ.
The bible clearly speaks that we shouldn't comtact the dead, in 1° Samuel when Saul summoned Samuel to speak to him, after that Saul was doomed for he contact the dead.
Isaiah 8:19 When someone tells you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?
Besides, the saints are not omnipresent, they can't hear your prayers because they ate with God in heaven, enjoying God's presence. Saying that they can hear your prayers, it makes them gods since Only God is Omnipresent and omniscient

It would be like praying to mary because she is the mother of CHRIST and why would you need to have someone else help or try to convince our LORD for anything that is good when JESUS is kind, good, gracious, loving, merciful, generous, loyal or like the word in hebrew khesed. 1 Timothy 2:5 (KJV) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. Who better than to pray to than THE SOURCE itself THE LORD JESUS. It's like saying HE might not do because HE is not all loving or all good. Praying to Mary & the Saints is unbiblical!
There's a difference between asking family or friends to pray For you, to praying To dead people!
Jesus is both Mediator & Intercessor. If Jesus is sufficient for both those roles then why do we need to pray to Mary or one of the saints, who by the way, are dead and departed?
Yes, they are alive in heaven, however, there is no scriptural basis for praying to them, rather the opposite is true!
Intercession is biblical for you and I who are living, to pray FOR one another, but not to pray to departed people. The saints in heaven may be privy to the prayers of the saints on earth. However, nowhere in scripture are we instructed to pray To Them!
The Bible actually instructs us to call on God not the Dead!
Isaiah 8:19-20 Someone may say to you, “Let’s ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the Dead. With their whisperings and mutterings, they will tell us what to do.” But shouldn’t people ask God for guidance? Should the living seek guidance from the Dead? Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark.
By praying To them, we are taking the attributes of God and placing them on mere humans! Only God is Omnipresent(everywhere at once), Omniscient(knowing everything at all times), Omnipotent(all powerful) & Omnibenevolent(supremely Holy & Good).
If the word of God tells us to come to Him directly, then why do we need to pray to anyone else???
Take a look at the following scriptural references:
    Romans 8:34
[34]Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes INTERCESSION for us.
    Hebrews 4:14-16
[14]Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
[15]For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
[16]Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
    Hebrews 7:23-27
[23]Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing.
[24]But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood.
[25]Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make Intercession for them.
    [26]For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens;
[27]who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.
    1 Timothy 2:5
[5]For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
    Acts 4:12
[12]Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Jeremiah 29:12-13 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.
    Philippians 4:6-7
    [6]Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
[7]and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
    Romans 8:26-27
[26]Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
[27]Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
    Matthew 6:6,9-15
[6]But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
[9]In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
[10]Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
[11]Give us this day our daily bread.
[12]And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
[13]And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
[14]“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
[15]But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
    1 John 5:14-15
[14]Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
[15]And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
    2 Chronicles 7:14
[14]if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
    Psalms 17:6
[6]I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech.
    Psalms 102:17
[17]He shall regard the prayer of the destitute, And shall not despise their prayer.
    Psalms 145:18-19
[18]The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.
[19]He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them.
    Proverbs 15:29
[29]The Lord is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous.
    Romans 10:13
[13]For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
    Romans 10:9-13
[9]If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
[10]For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
[11]As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”
[12]For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile-the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,
[13]for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

"Protestants" don't believe that the saints can't pray for us, it's just that WE can't pray TO the saints. The verse in revelations does not state that they prayers are directed to the saints and then passed on to God, rather the prayers 'in general', 'as whole' are offered.
There is intercession on earth, but not between saints on earth and the ones passed away. If there is... we simply don't know. The problem is practical and dealt with in the reformation: too much focus on humans, icons, statues etc. The Church developed the cult of the saints, which developed too far. People e.g. in The Netherlands don't seek Jesus, but only Mary.

God said in the bible that, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." Anything else is the work of the devil. It is not written to get saints to represent our Forever Living God in Heaven, but only on to Jesus Christ. Honoring is one thing, but having intercession is a whole different thing.

They can and do pray for us and we need all prayers. But we do not invoke the saints for prayer.

I don’t think so so in gods world it’s a pure justice what we human what he has created cannot understand cas we are small . The only connection with God it’s just one directly phone line. Wich one it’s that ? And this line it’s free all the time for everyone. This is the prayer and this is the connection directly to him simple. You make it complicated with a second line like you call the Doktor office and a secretary or Assistent will answer and she’s gone tell you the Doktor it’s busy now he can talk to you and the sister is gone notice what you need and transmit this later to the Doktor and a few week later the Doktor it’s ready for you. No way you want the connection with God just call him alone no others between humans and God. Jesus pray to God also not to the saints first st Andre it’s god there I wanna tel him this and that and all the others messengers prophets have been prayed directly to him. Don’t associate nobody with God in prayer to him. Says Jesus also . From where did you take this kind of teachings??

    • @LadyMaria
      @LadyMaria ปีที่แล้ว +3

Asking one to pray for you is praying them pray for you. Prayer is petition. I guess if I pray for you I'm considered a "middle man". We must ask prayers of all the Faithful (those with Christ in the hereafter are alive in Him as He is God of the living, not the dead). The Faith isn't all about you, it's about the whole. Christianity in its truest form is communal. The relationship with Christ is personal and communal. That's the Church, the faithful who are baptized into Him and Chrismated to be sealed with the Holy Spirit, who commune of Christ Himself.
We pray to God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) directly and ask others here and in the hereafter to pray for us.

If, just for example, a thousand people, from all across the world, prayed to Saint Benedict of Nursia, all on the same day, with each one asking for a different thing, would Saint Benedict be able to handle all of their prayer requests?

They reveal the truth about the cause of the great schism.

It would be good to read more about this, then. Everyone who has been exposed to “Christianity” outside of Christ’s Church inevitably has certain misunderstandings and misconceptions. In the Orthodox Church we do not worship images but we use images to honor or venerate those who are depicted. The Seventh Ecumenical Council was called to resolve the issue of icon veneration in the 8th century because, while icon veneration goes back to the early Church, the emergence and growth of Islam which fiercely opposed the use of images in worship led to this becoming a controversy within the Church. The Seventh Ecumenical Council gathered a multitude of bishops from throughout the Church to prayerfully evaluate the matter and finally decreed that to reject the veneration of icons is to reject Christ’s incarnation. To understand why this is the case, it would be good to read St. John of Damascus’ writings “On the Divine Images” and about the Seventh Ecumenical Council which was adopted by the entire Church.

Hey man, I appreciate this but my thing is the prayer offered in faith is directly to God the father thru the intercession of Christ Jesus, the saints are there praying and doing the same thing that we are doing I don't understand this tho like the mechanics of prayer unto a Saint are you saying okay now I'm talking to this human being wo died in earth and was raised to life thru the spirit of God and who is spiritual in heaven, okay human being while you are up in there would you go and ask God to do X Y or Z for me please? And then the Saint go and runs to God to go ask him to do your thing and then God looks upon your prayer and says yknow one of my favorite sinners who was raised to life by the spirit of christ just told me that you are looking for some supernatural help so here you go??
Why would a person pray to the dead? Why would you not fry out Abba father as the spirit of christ enables you?? Why does not the spirit of God intercede for you with groaning too profound for words, when even your spirit knows not what to pray? Why need we place further mediators between ourselves and God, a resurrection of the temple shroud which was rent in 2 at the death of Christ???

Who ever has questions just watch a greek liturgy by Greek Orthodox church in Greece or in Cyprus and then start to search the religion.you will know. So much history so many Saints..great examples.

I see the fullness of the faith dwelling in the Orthodox Communions, but I don't see in any way shape or form that asking for the prayers of those departed in Christ is "essential" to either our personal journey or the furtherance of the Kingdom. Not that I believe in Sola Scriptura, but if this was such a vital and core part of the Church's calling and worship then surely it would at least appear clearly in the writings of Peter or Paul and not merely a possible interpretation from the highly symbolic book of Revelation.
Yes it appears early on in history and the greatest Father's practiced it because they inherited and were taught a pious tradition, but I can't help seeing the influence of certain syncretised alien aspects; and Mariology, in it's present form (regarding her place in the prayers of the Church), seems to me and many as a product of developments through the latter part of the first Millenium, building on, again, a pious but non binding (in my opinion) inner tradition stemming from non canonical writings like the 2nd century Protoevengelium of James and wonderful typology.
I may be unenlightened, but in my faith I have never once felt moved, inspired or drawn to converse with any personal spiritual being but that of the Triune Being beyond being X Why is that? Merely because I hav'nt been taught to in my past Protestant involvements? I think not... But there's that "I" again... Lol
Thank you Father for your wisdom on these clips! 🙏
    In love, in Christ
(and no I'm not Orthodox. I have lived with Orthodox though - even a mitred Archpriest of the Russian Church here in the U.K... I'm also too unwell to attend any church due to long term illness; and even if I was well enough, there's no Orthodox Church on the Isle of Wight... But luckily God is bigger than that... and the Spirit helps me when I know not what to pray; and the Son sympathises with me in my weekness; and the Father Himself loves me)

WE are saints as well... anyone who puts off the old self and puts on Christ becomes a saint. When Jesus taught the disciples to pray, He never mentions in any way a prayer to a group of saints, but to God. We are to pray for each other, though, so we will be strengthened, encouraged, healed, etc💯 I'm not sure if that's biblically sound...

I don’t think this clip answers the question on the header of the video. He talked about the Saints praying for us which is correct and good. The question on the video says “Why do the Orthodox pray TO the saints.” Maybe this is miscommunication and I’m misunderstanding what’s going on but I’m reading the question literally.

Please help me with these verses Deuteronomy 18:9-12 “When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you."

The proof that we Orthodox have the truth is that no matter Iif you were Arab Muslim or African pagan or Taoist Asian. Once you repent and accept Christ and His church you can become a Saint through humility and do wonders in the name of Christ and your love for your neighbor

The protestants like to say that it says in scripture everybody is a saint lol that is the number one argument I hear them say. Praying for intercession from the dead would be the second thing they tried to argue against.

I suppose that the reference in the book of Revelation is chapters 5 & 8.
What I am wondering is whether those references amount to a warrant for us to pray to the Saints.
This is a strange thing to do when Jesus told us to pray directly to God and not to ask him(Jesus) to pray for us.
This doctrine is of interest to me because I want to find out how it came about and why the only way to honour the saints(dead believers) is by praying to them to ask them to pray for us.
In Hebrews, the author refers to the faith of those who have gone before us urging us to emulate their faith. The question is, is emulating their faith an act of honouring them or God?
I really wish to delve into this to gain understanding.
