    “It doesn’t matter what you shoot, as long as it puts a big smile on your face.” I 100% agree.

    I shoot several Traditional bows and a Compound bow. My sights are dialed in on the Compound and it is a Hunting Machine. The shots are extremely repeatable. When you are Hunting you have an obligation to make the best shot possible. I use the Compound for Hunting and the Stickbows for pure shooting pleasure. Keep up the good work Jim. Got your string on my Bear Grizzly.

    It's just a difficulty setting like in a video game 😂
    Easy mode: Compound
    Normal mode: Recurve
    Hard mode: Longbow

    Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, it's the lure of technology. Being drawn to the dark side means always looking for that new sight, new cam system, new technology to improve your abilities over raw, hard work and practice. Geez, I thought you were smart. 😂 ❤ love ya buddy!!

    Traditional/Barebow is the pure spirit of archery and is more about archers core skills🏹. High risk of failure, but also high reward or sense of achievement. Compound is mechanical, robotic almost and has no soul!!🤖 Compound archers have a heightened fear of failure, so rely on gizmo's to assist them to pseudo glory 😁. Notice how there are no compound bow icons 🤭But that's just what I think. All forms of archery however do the one thing that we all need in that it puts our minds in the present moment. It here and now's us completely 🏹🏹🏹

      Mike Schloesser, Reo Wilde, Dave Cousins (who pioneered sponsorships for archers), Paige Pearce, Sara Lopez, Ella Gibson. All of these are compound stars that people know about. Also a reminder that there are more full time compound professionals than full time recurve professionals. it helps to branch out from your own form of archery to learn more about what makes a good archer.

    Bare bow competitions are decided by yards. Recurve competitions are decided by inches. Compound competitions are decided by millimeters.

    I haven't been shooting very long, but when I was shopping for a bow, compounds were intimidating/confusing, not to mention expensive.
    I immediately realized the learning curve on the technical side would be higher. Sure, being any good with a bent stick is a lot of work, but that's what I signed up for, not to be an amateur bow mechanic.

    Because the mechanisms are taking over a lot of the archers work.

      what is the "archer's work"? drawing the bow? nocking the arrow? aiming? the release? the follow through?

    In my opinion, compound bows shows the progression of archery technology, it's similar to muskets in the old days to modern rifles. Personally, if money weren't a factor, I'd love to be able to shoot as many forms of archery that I can. Currently, I'm training in Olympic recurve, but I've bought myself a flatbow for leisure shoots and I'm interested in trying a compound bow eventually.
    Not all, but some, it's just down to an elitist mentality.

    Having recently started my Compound path, after been walking on the recurve, longbow and horsebow/ thumbarchery ways, it is just a different kind of archery which is triggering my techy side.
    A lot of ways to play around with Bow setup, releases, sights, rests and stuff. The ABT stuff.

    I refer to it as the Formula 1 of archery.
    You have different cars for different things. Compound archery is the pinical of technology, but at the end of the day, it's still you, the target, and other people. It becomes a lot more psychological and pressure not to drop a point, as you said in the video.
    I shoot traditional, longbow and used to shoot compound. All have their challenges and love it all.
    Now my mobility is getting worse, I'm looking at getting into compound again, as I can't use a longbow from a wheelchair lol

    I started with recurve. I went compound last March. Stuck it out for a year. Initially I had good success. But the mental side of it is harder. And because it's easier to draw and hold the bow, my form went downhill. But form is important with all archery. And because I didn't feel the need to concentrate as much on form, my enjoyment and my results went down and I wasn't improving. Plus, compound bows can be scary. Letting down a compound bow is hard. After a year i've put my compound away. But now I'm not sure what to do.

    I'd sooner it be a bad shot with trad bow than a bad shot with a compound ..at least I'd have an excuse for missing with a trad 😂

    I shoot compound simply because an injury makes shooting a decent draw weight recurve bow really quite painful these days. Its still a bow, I still shoot arrows and if you don't shoot them well it goes even more dramatically wrong than with my old recurve bows. The point is though that so long as you can still shoot who cares what you shoot. The ribbing just goes with the game and is half of what makes archery so much fun. At least if you shoot compound you're not shooting centuries old tech…keep up guys 😂

    Weather compound or traditional you still have to shoot it.
    The bow is only as strong as it's weakest link.

    I started out with a compound bow - for the simple reason it was better suited for hunting deer in heavy bush.
    I currently shoot Korean hornbows because - well I've progressed to the level where it just plain provides an inner peace that I don't get with the carbon fibre bows. I don't have a dislike for any kind of bow; I do have a dislike for anyone who finds it necessary to belittle another archer's preferred bow.

    Because its like shooting a crossbow. And money. So much new gadgets, tech, materials all just to make money. Its more about the kit and less about the skill.

  • @sprk11
    @sprk11 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    why ? because it's a rabbit hole of equipment. Once you go over to the compound you start chasing equipment to be more accurate. First you get the mechanical release, then the drop away rests movable sights , longer stabiliser, next thing you know you have 5 grand in equipment and you still can't punch the 11 every time because you still haven't put the time in shooting arrows.

    • @sprk11
      @sprk11 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      to add to what you said about dropping a point. To follow a group of compounders to watch the glass a target, adjust their sights, glass it again, re adjust, glass it. Draw , let down , glass it, adjust, glass it, draw and let down. Glass it, draw shoot, glass it to see where they hit , talk to their mates , then step away from the pin so the next guy gets to repeat the process, then to have the great debate at the target over what the scores are and how to better shoot the next one. Dude just shoot and go. Now the known 50 is a thing because they have to laser check it twice.

    In all honesty.... I don't like shooting them meself. I started on compound but very quickly lost the love of it. Someone here mentioned its like formula one for bows and in a modern context i think that's right. Ot almost takes away the focus on the archer and on to the equipment the way modorn f1 is the cars and not the drivers. It frustrates and angers more within yourself as an archer because you know how accurate the kit is and so any tiny mistake causes you to rip into yourself. At keast thats what i found. I prefer the challenge and work of a recurve or trad. Its motivating more fun. It does raise a question though. With the fact that compund is more accurate and in WA the biws have magnification and clarifiers, why do they only shoot 50m versus the recurve at 70? Honest question there i haven't found an answer yet. My 2 cents there. At the end of the day as long as you enjoy it then go for it 😁

    • @grille_c
      @grille_c 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      WA changed the distance for compound 2011. Before they shoot the exact distance and size of a 70m target. Then there was a short time of a two colored small targets.
      I think they changed it to a small target at 50m because recurve bow is olympic and the difference too small for a possible olympic participation of compound bow.
      The size was chosen because the archers were afraid to hit their arrows, so everyone got their own target.

    A compound just isn't a bow! Its a "compound", mechanical device. Archery, to be an Archer, you have to shoot a actual bow!

  • @ronnyweinreich
    @ronnyweinreich 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Compound Bows take a lot of human errors out of the game.
    Draw, release, aiming, and strength are all much easier.
    Shooting with Training wheels is more fitting. 😅

    Is not an Olympic bow cheating when compered to old stile wood bow?

    • @jota15888
      @jota15888 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      With an old style bow, you'll rarely hit a target at 70 meters.... Which is impractical to a scoring system.
      To shoot an olympic bow doesn't mean to be cheating since the bow does not shoot itself.

    Normally I agree that it's just good natured ribbing... But one time I was alone at the range shooting my compound and this guy rocks up with his recurve. It's a full "Olympic" set up all the best bits most expensive bits and bobs spends probably 15 minutes setting it up. Then he has a massive go at me for cheating and telling how I'm not a proper archer. All the time he's standing there with a £2000 ($2800) bow with more carbon fibre than the space shuttle! I just waved at his bow and said "Then take all that "stuff" off your bow and we'll see if you can even hit the target!". the rest of the session we didn't talk.
    Some people are just silly, thankfully this is very much the exception and compound is a lot more popular in Europe than it used to be so it's more accepted now than when I started shooting.
    I shoot every bow category and have many MANY types of bow and I always love trying out new bows. They are all amazing as long as you are shooting a bow and having fun you are doing archery right!
