Nice to see Google at Maker Faire. That's a really good idea on their part to get out there, interact with makers, share ideas, look for new ideas & talent, & actually help out the community. I thinks it's awesome they brought crap loads of free safety glasses to hand out. That's a really great way for a big company to show up & instantly contribute to the community.
Take note corporations. What is making Google so valuable is their willingness to spend millions on research. Research that may lead to nowhere. The point is to learn and with every project regardless of success or failure is a mountain of valuable data and lessons learned. So many corporations are tight fisted with research dollars or are so anally focused that they are missing the value of research.
