I’m starting jujitsu when this whole beverage bug thing is over. Bought myself a punching bag and I’m trying to train in condition in the meantime. Your videos are really helping me!
Your gonna learn enough to get ya ass kicked like myself and others we study these vids so we can understand how we got our asses whooped in a real fight won't stop me from trying tho
There's a lot of very good martial artists that post videos and try to explain things but this guy by far it's probably the best video instructional teacher you could find on TH-cam ima start calling him sensei pretty soon and the explanation and variations on the sidekick are vary complete
Hi, your demonstrations are excellent , very clear, if you dont mind please do a video about the best excercises to improve the strength of legs and arms, I had been practising boxing, but I realized the importance of mix martial arts in real life..good luck
Great video! I didn't knew those drills of each kick. They'll help a lot. It would be great a vídeo about stretching for stiff people to begin, so they can develop a proper kick. Regards from Brazil
That's great, congrats on getting started! And yes, I would recommend pretty much all the videos on our channel! lol Check out our playlists page for a more structured approach to your training :)
Great video man. I'm a sprinter in Track but worried that there's gonna be a time worst case scenario where I would need to fight back. I figured that my already strong, flexible legs would also be great for self defense purposes
Hey Sacha, I like it. I allude to this briefly at 7:50, but in the case of the Low Round Kick, keeping the heel down can even provide a bit more power by using the friction on the ground between the heel and the toes, as long as you angle your foot out before throwing the kick. As a general rule, the higher you want to kick, the more important it will be to lift your heel and pivot your base foot. Hope this helps! P.S. Read your comment on the Single Leg, head out is generally preferable on shooting entries when strikes are involved, but you should be able to use both head in and head out to get the finish. And indeed, I plan to make some more structured content on this in the future, but meantime, check out this video we published on Facebook a while back, I go over my favorite single leg finishes at 23:35 (link below): Shoot-Striking - Advanced Class Session Recap fb.watch/2ItDldV6jO/ Enjoy! - Patrick
Sorry for the delay! I learn from everywhere I can. Big fan of John Danaher's instructionals, Lachlan Giles, amongst others. I go to Tristar Gym in Montreal occasionally to roll and spar, and have enjoyed private classes with a few pros and great coaches. Always drill with students... Hope this helps! - Patrick
The oblique kick is a great tool indeed. We just recommend to our beginner students to start by getting really good at these basic ones first. Will try to do a video on it in the future! - Patrick
Flexibility: stretch! Balance: stand, hop, and shadow spar on one leg regularly. Check out my stretching routine here: th-cam.com/video/avpLW897fm4/w-d-xo.html Enjoy! 😊 - Patrick
Slightly, mainly because in most kickboxing styles, kicks to the legs are not allowed. But the mechanics are fairly similar. These techniques are inspired from and designed for MMA. Hope this helps! - Patrick
Cool! En effet, c’est normal d’être plus à l’aise avec un côté que l’autre, mais je crois que c’est important de pratiquer les deux! Merci pour le commentaire 🙏 - Patrick

with the side kick do you ever extend your foot to kick with the balls of the foot like the front kick?
This is the most clearest video on kicking. You be surprised how many people don't really explain it.
Thanks! Glad you like it :)
Why is there 1 dislike the man explains so well 😭
Lol... thanks Aravind! I guess you can’t please everyone 🤷

Hey Patrick, how do you feel about keeping the heel down on base foot for round low and body kicks?

I did find something technical in the video that was useful. It was when you have your leg up and you twist .From Aysia-Marie.
Nice. This drill will help you put more “Pop” in your round kick! Good job in class today 👍 - Patrick

Do I need a punching bag or any special equipment to start off or can I do it without any of that
A punching bag is definitely helpful, but not necessary! You can improve your kicks a lot by practicing in the air.
Thanks! Grandma stood no chance!
I should really put in a disclaimer about not hitting elderly relatives.
Who were/are your coaches/influences/mentors in martial arts?

I go to Tristar Gym in Montreal occasionally to roll and spar, and have enjoyed private classes with a few pros and great coaches. Always drill with students... Hope this helps!

I usually side kick since it’s way easier to get out when they grab your leg
My favorite kick is the oblique kick to the knee...see Jon Jones but I think it is from savate

I find the side kick with the rear leg much easier than with the lead leg
Any advice on how to be more flexible and have better balance?

Le hip pop drill est intéressant ! J'essayerai cela, j''ai plus de misère à faire la rotation avec une de mes jambes.

Please don’t kick your parents. Unless you’re sparring with them, which is very cool. Be nice in that case, safety first!
