Thank you for your comment. It means alot. This tutorial was designed to help students understand the theory paper and how to answer questions. This is the most important thing and it seems you have fully understood this. There is no miracle tutorial that you can watch and you will be able to answer any question. The knowledge comes from you. How you show evidence that you have the knowledge is what this tutorial is about. Thankyou for comming back to leave your feedback. Good luck with your exams and i hope you get the grades you are aiming for.
Hi sir, It has been a while. I had to come back to thank you for your highly insightful videos especially for the practical exams. It was really disappointing to miss out on paper 2 because of the terrible weather here a while ago, but I think it's safe to say (no exaggeration) that I aced paper 3... I came out of the exam thinking about any of the possible mistakes I could have made, but to my surprise there were most-likely none upon discussion with my friends because I was able to finish the paper about 40 minutes before the timer ended so I was able to go through the whole paper again and regain approximately 10 marks I was close to losing. Theory on the other hand was a different story when I completely messed up on a question about pilot and parallel or something along those lines (it was a systems topic which I'm a bit horrible at) and then the other questions were alright. I'm only hoping to get over 50% for this paper -but I would have done worse if it weren't for your tips you gave in this video. Would you know how they make the considerations for students who missed out on paper 2 when handing out the grades? On a final note, this is probably the last ICT related thing I will do at school and maybe the last time I will need your help, so thank you again for your support with these videos, there are still thousands of students moving on who will need your help too, so please do provide your support at least for the next few more years!
I am glad this helped you. I have always thought that the theory papers are are a matter of learning the content and together with the marksheets it is quite pointless to create a video tutorial. Quite a few viewers have asked for theory papers so i may create a few.
Hello, sir, I have a question. How holistic is the grading for the theory paper? Do examiners rigidly follow the marking scheme or is it a bit flexible? Also, is the Hodder textbook good enough for ICT Theory for 2024 examinations?
They follow the mark scheme but there are elements which students may elaborate on which are not in the mark scheme but will be considered if the student has demonstrated a reasoned answer with knowledge on why they have answered the way they have. The mark sheet will on some questions say, or relevant answer so this is down to examiners discretion if the student has demonstrated knowledge.
When questions are asked about audio conference like explain what is meant by it, do we need to explain the one where participants enter pin which is held over telephone network or the one held over internet using voip? If there is no previous scenario given in the ques..
No, i would say that you need to explain what it means not describe how it works or describe the process. What it means would be you explaining to someone that has no idea what video conferencing is. A short answer would be: A technology which allows 2 or more persons in different locations to share audio and video with the purpose of real time communication. It also allows for sharing and collaboration of documents.
@@tanvisomani831 the question will not ask how it works. It may ask for you to explain the process or it may give you a scenario of 2 or more people want to meet througb video cnferencing and you need to explain how this would be done.
sir at 9:40 in the video you mentioned we are not supposed to write in bullet points, but can we write like this for example in online shopping Advantages: faster as it saves time to travel to the store, saves money by ordering from home rather than travel to the store and buy items.... if it is a compare and contrast question on or a question then no. I fit a a 2 mark question it will not be be a compare and contrast . If it asks for advantages and disadvantages then yes but you need to elaborate. As long as you elaborate on how time and money is being saved. What is faster? The number of marks will give you a good indication on what you need to answer.
I have my theory paper in three days. I have done most papers from 2016 to 2024. However, many ques include different points in different ms which is getting confusing now. For example different explanation of Copywright was expected in 2023 papers than previous. Can u suggest what to do and how to prepare further?
The main difficulty with the theory paper is understanding what theybare looking for. Unfortunately the exam is very language based so you have to read the question carefully and idetify the words in the question that will guide your answer. Answering the the past papers is a good way to practice but each question can be asked in many different ways and thus very different answers. It is designed this way so that students write what they know and not what they remember. My suggestion, since you have answered the theory papers, analyse the long answer questions to identify the words that guide the answer to what they are looking for. Then tey and think of how the question could be asked differently to get a different answer. This exercise will 1, help you understand the question and what youbshould focis on and 2, expand your knowledge in on that topic. Good luck. I look forward to hearing how you do.
I didn't watch the entire video but I just want a quick answer. Case 1) if I answered a question and I just said something correct that shows understanding but it's not in the mark scheme do I get the mark? And my definition for a point to be correct is that it's only necessary that it's logically correct and not necessarily having key words from the mark scheme or the point itself to even be on the mark scheme. Case 2) what if according to my definition of a correct point the point is in the mark scheme but has no keywords
A very valid question. If you justify your answer or if it is relevant then yes you will get the marks. However, sometimes students think they are answering with valid answers but instead they are not answering based on what the scenario is or what has been asked. So, make sure you answer based on what has been asked, if your answer is valid and justified then yes you will get the mark. Examiners are trained to mark positively.
@@paphitisn One more question to check whether I understood you or not, about a hypothetical scenario, let's say there is a 1 mark question called "Advantages of Desktop computers over smartphones" and also let's pretend the mark scheme has only the possible answers [Has a larger screen so easier to read, Has a larger keyboard so easier to type] and I answered "The desktop computer has a higher processing power than a smartphone" will I get the mark?
@@mohkh7610 No because you are assuming that all desktops have a higher processing power than smartphones. It could be a an argument to decide which device may be more appropriate for a specific use but you can not use it as a rule.
@@paphitisn Sorry, but what I meant is that even if a solid point is outside the mark scheme you'd still get the mark? I just want to decided if my approach is to put relevant answers based on my understanding assuming I understand them correctly or to memorise the meaning of the points at least and keywords if necessary
Describe will normally be accompanied with what you have to explain. In this example it could be: Describe why you would use stylesheets when designing your web pages Here the bad answer in the video would be correct. As the question said Explain the term then you are not looking to describe why you would use stylesheets but what is a stylesheet. Think of it as Explain the term motor vehicle and describe why you would use one.

This is not spec related. It is all relevant irrespective to the syllabus. Probably the most important tutorial you will receive with respect to answering the theory paper.
When I am solving the paragraph style questions usually the 4-8 mark ones, if I answer in a paragraph based way not bullet point based does the examiner have the right to judge whether some sentence is a point so they can judge whether that point is correct or will they just look for the correct points and mark them?
Examiners are trained to mark positively but if you are asked to identify a 3 points then they will only look at the first 3 not all of them, even if the first 3 are wrong and the others are correct, for obvious reasons. In an long form answer, if you give reasoned arguments then you get the marks. if for some you do not give a correct response you will not get the marks, so it is a bit more flexible. As examiners we are looking for evidence that you know what you are writing and why. If we see that then there is flexibility. if not and you are randomly putting any answers with a hope that one is right you will not get any marks.
your guess is as good as mine. any topic can appear in any form. if your answer is relevant to the question, both the scenario you have been given and what the question want you to elaborate on then yes, you will get credit for a valid and reasoned answer.
@@mk-hc3pj there are no random questions. the questions are focused on what is included in the syllabus. You need to read the question and the given scenario carefully. Sorry but i dont use web expression so i am not the right person to create a tutorial on it.
is the theory paper in computer science and ict similar
No. There maybe simillar components but it will not be the same.
Wait so we can answer as bullet points in all questions except for diuscuss?
Probably not....
hi. if we write anything thats not in the mark scheme, will we lose marks or will we gain credit for showing understanding ? i really want to know from an examiner like you
if your answer is relevant to the question, both the scenario you have been given and what the question want you to elaborate on then yes, you will get credit for a valid and reasoned answer.
@paphitisn oh thanks! also if they ask a random question that weve never seen before, what is the best approach to tackle it
@@mk-hc3pj there are no random questions. the questions are focused on what is included in the syllabus. You need to read the question and the given scenario carefully. Keep reading until you have a clear understanding of what the scenario is and what you should be answering. Then apply your knowledge to fit the scenario. Sometimes you get a question which is focused on your experiences. Take the time to think. do not answer immediately without questioning yourself. The answer based on your experiences and not what you think they want you to answer.
Great explanation thanks a lot!
I am glad it helped thanks for your comment
22:47 could we say that you have to pay fees on cloud ?
Yes but also mention that you pay for what you need with regard to storage capacity. This makes changing the storage capacity you need easy and seemless as you can upgrade easilly.
sir, what should we do if the question asked for evaluate?
It is like give reasons and explain
you judge something and explain its importance.
so is writing my answers in the form of bullet points incorrect??
Unless itt asks you to list or identify then yes
@@paphitisn oh, but my school teacher said it's accepted
can i write the advantages and disadvantages in bullet points or i will lose marks?
unless the question directly asks for bullet points or its a list question you probably shouldn’t put it in bullet points
i love you bro
thanks
It seems like the bad answers in the video were from one of your students 😅
based on answers from numerous students including my students.
@@paphitisn ah okay
Thanks 🎉🎉🎉
You're welcome 😊 thanks for the comment
The thumbnail is me
haha, the theory has this effect
i have exam in one hour, i don't know theory. i'm cooked...
really don't know how to respond to that. Take time to read questions carefully and don't rush to answer. Trust me, you know more than you think. If you understand the questions you will definitely be able to get some marks. Good Luck
@@paphitisn i probably overpanic. i know something but there are also many things i don't know. and also questions are very confusing so it's hard to answer even when i know the topic so it feels like i don't know anything. and it's the exam i'm less prepared for in all exams i had. thanks for answering. I'll really need that luck
@@kitteninforest read the questions carefully (2 or 3 times). As you read the answers will come to you. You think you know less than you do because you are trying to recall everything from memory. When you read the questions it will trigger your knowledge.
@@paphitisn thanks. i just did it. it was actually not extremely bad. i did everything except for one 6 mark question about augmented reality because i haven't learned what that meant at all. some questions i had to guess but for some i knew answers right away. other than that i did everything even though most of it is probably not correct knowing it's ict theory lol. thanks for answering me and for reassurance. i actually knew more than i thought, so you were correct. well, anyway, i did both practicals extremely good thanks to you, so i should not have worried that much because even if i did theory bad i hope my practicals will overweight that bad score.
@@kitteninforest that is great news. Well done! It sounds like you did a quite well. Good luck with the reat of your exams. Lets hope you get a grade you are proud of.
i feel like im worse than the bad version for some reason 💀, not the one line answers though obviously
Look through the points i have given you and practice. it is the best way to improve your technique.
@@paphitisn yeah i will try, i got a double exam on the day i got ict paper 1 there is so much stuff to remember is the problem, also thanks a lot for making these type of videos they help a lot ❤️
I am glad it helps. The important thing is to make sure you are answering based on the question asked. As i explain in the video, you need to first identify the type of question and then what the question focuses on. Use all the exam time. Do not repeat yourself in the answer. Look at the marks offered to guide you.
@@paphitisn alright hopefully i dont mess up, im happy that practical had more weightage than theory at least
@@Than_31 yo, bro u have chemistry too?
