You're not supposed to do any intense exercise with hypothyroidism but if you do you shouldn't exercise too much keep it under 20 minutes or less ,because hight intense exercise deplete T3 since it forces your body to use more of it when is slow already. You're not lazy when you don't want to exercise is just your body telling you it needs rest because you don't have all the energy it needs to be used ,you might feel good afterwards but that turns into stress so do something low impact
It's true , I lost 38 pounds adjusting my Thyrovanz Bovine Thyroid glandular and taking Berberine. No diet or exercise. Just this. In fact I ate junk food and soda whenever i felt like it. As an experiment that it is all about hormones and NOT eat less move more. Now I have tightened up my diet because I have been stuck with the same weight for a year and also keeping an eye on my thyroid levels, insulin and my iron deficiency which also plays a role in higher blood sugar .

Yes. I give up as well. My diet is simple, I eat very little processed foods. I am now concentrating on walking and using a stepper several times a week. That's all I can do. At least at my age I have a good heart, no high blood pressure or diabetes and no high cholesterol.
Stair stepper, ankle weights, dumbells, and maybe a band (all from a thrift store) are a great combination for light workouts. I love incline treadmills for desk work but the learning curve for maintaining them has troubled me.
Thank you for your videos. I’ve been dieting IF, low fat, mostly raw vegan, no dairy, no oil, and the weight loss is slow. I can’t figure this weight issue out and I’m so tired of it. The high effort required to lose an ounce is discouraging, especially because I know if I eat even a crumb off diet, I’ll be up lbs.
I am sure that it is impossible to be a raw vegan and receive the necessary amino acids in a form easily digestible for the body and in the required quantity, as well as fats and vitamins in an quick available form What does your body make cholesterol for hormones from?
Could you possibly speak to the patients that no longer have a thyroid? Especially in regards to weight loss. I don’t think I’ve ever heard you speaks to this issue. Thank you!
And i will add how Doctors from famelliy to endos will not do this list of test except for TSH , if you have no thyroid , in my expiriance and a vew others the only test we are given is TSH , a d i know he sead this video is good for ppl with no Thyroid but on the other hand you are asking us for tests no one gives us , It is not OUR foult that i know i ask everytime i see my doctor for this tests The answer is just "we'l first see how you tsh is "
Eat an optimal species appropriate diet of primarily at least 80% raw water rich fruit (not dried) and water rich raw vegetables including vegetables with seeds like cucumbers and tomatoes. Tender leafy greens like the lettuces and a few nuts and seeds abut 1/4 cup per day or less. You can eat as much as you want of these things and you will lose weight easily. I promise. Just avoid cooked foods ( except steamed veggies or soup once in a while), and avoid animal products. Avoid grains and legumes. They are not conducive to losing weight nor are they as healthful as fruit is and they can't be eaten raw unless they are sprouted.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge Dr. Childs. Now I understand why I haven't been able to lose weight even though I've been doing intermittent fasting, and a very low carbs diet😟for over a year. In fact, instead I've gained 35lbs which I couldn't understand why. I don't snack, and most days I only eat a meal/day.
@@selyemperzsa1it’s more likely that they have thyroid issues.. low carb actually helps with insulin resistance and if they are not losing weight, they more than likely need thyroid hormone.
@@RationalNon-conformist I lost 15kgs by setting up insuline resistance diet with professional dietetitian, I eat 150-160gr of carbs. It has nothing to do with carbs restriction.... and I can keep the weight off without medication. She will not lose 1 pound without the proper diet. (I actually cannot even take thyroid medications anymore, because it causes dementia like symptoms for me).
I disagree with low carb being damaging.. many of us do really well on low carb/zero carb. I don’t do well with probiotics/prebiotics, they make me bloated. We are all so very different. As long as we listen to our bodies & do what’s best for us, that’s enough.
Me too… I had to STRUGGLE with my insurance/pharmacy & Doc’s office to get a script for Armor! It’s ridiculous, and they just about had me worn down enough that I gave up… glad I didn’t!

How can I get suppliments that are affordable? I have done intermittent fasting where I will only eat between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM with no results. I am to the point of just giving up food, completely. I don't even care anymore. I just need to lose weight.
Doctor, thank you for yours video. Very helpful. Question: i hav Hashimoto. Can i get off from synthroid /20 years/ gradualy and take supplements to support my thyroid, decrese antibody and lose weigjt. Did you see patients like this? Thank you in advance.
Thank you, thank you and thank you. How nice with a doctor that understand. My doc doesn't seem to have the word Hashimotos in his vocabulary ... That makes it a bit "going uphill"... Hurray for you and the You Tube info. I love'em! Best regards Mette
I have been taking pure t3 for months now and it isn't working. I am also on metformin and I also take berberine. Nothing works! I do have to say that I was severely anemic. My ferritin level was 7! I started taking iron supplements and a week ago I got my first iron infusion. Before getting the iron infusion, I got my iron up to 33 so between diet and supplements, I did improved my iron levels. Is there anything else I can do? It's disheartening to work out 5 days a week, follow a strict diet and still not lose 1 pound. My t3 levels were low but now they are super high, out of range so obviously the t3 is not getting to my cells. Help!
Anyone have medical insurance recommendations for doctors that will run these tests? I have Kaiser and for 6 years now all they will run is TSH and when I ask for the others, they tell me that there is no need to run the other tests. 6 years later and I still feel like crap and ready to switch medical insurance providers. Thank you!
Ask for them to deny you the test your seeking in writing. Then go and pay a different lab to administer the test. These doctors for get that we actually hire them and pay for these test through our insurances. Wishing you the best.
Dr Childs, what about a long time (over 5 years) very low carb eater, in late stage Hashimotos whose fasting glucose is too high for the amount of carbohydrates I consume? HbA1C is pre-diabetic range. Fasting glucose is routinely above 90 and often above 100 and only rarely (zero carb day or completely fasted measuring later in the day) going as low as high 70s. Would my "normal" but outside of optimal lab numbers be related to my unexplained rise in glucose? This is a more recent occurance and i have had an unusual stress load of late, but am doing everything i can to manage it.
As a T1 diabetic.. Stress raises your blood sugar significantly so that is having an impact. He has mentioned Berberine quite a lot in other videos, have a watch and consider supplementing it to see how things go. What is your most recent hba1c? How close to pre-diabetes or diabetes are you? I use Berberine myself as I also have insulin resistance and it helps a great deal.
I need you to call my Doc and explain this toher please. I have saying for a fewmonths now i need a stronger dose of meds. Finally conviced her to switch me to Aromor and then she completelly cut the dose from 125 levo to 30 Armor. I started to feel like crap again, worse then I already was, her ansswer was to tell me to theLevo again. I dont want on the Levo. I havea Dairy issue. I also have wide spread pain and I don't what is causing it. I have brought it upto my doctor, never once asking forpain meds, and she blows it off like I am makiing it up. I see an Endo next month, it has taken my 6 months to get in. I am hopin to ask him for adocot recommendation and to see if he will change my meds to the way I want them.
Thank you for the information, you were able to educate me more than my Endocrinologist doctor. I'm currently without medication 💊 after 2020. As soon as I stopped the medication, I lost 70% of my hair. Now, I'm scared to take any medication.
This happened to me too. I upped my vit D3, take a B Complex, zinc/selenium, and eat a high protein diet. So I have huge patches of short and long hair, but at least it's growing back normal and not thin and brittle. If you were within normal limits and then stopped taking the medication, then your thyroid would go back to baseline and the outcome can be hair loss. Wishing you all the best.
What can you do if your doctor won’t prescribe enough medication to get your thyroid labs in the optimal range? My labs are just under the very top of range and Dr says it’s good, but I don’t feel good and keep putting on weight.
Can we have rhodiola/ashwagandha same day as thyronorm 75mcg which right now i am on? To reduce the stress as you have mentioned. Is it safe to do that? Since i read that both these could affect the thyroid hormone levels
My new doctor claims there is no reason to check TPO, now, as long as TSH is within normal range. My TPO numbers were once way off charts when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s. Should I find a new doctor?
Went on a low fat diet and lost a lot of weight. I gained it back when I started to eat normally. I don't have it in me to do it again. Im setting out to find a new endocrinologist to hopefully help me with my meds. I'm eating right and working out so . . .
what do u suggest if thyroid test are normal but one has all the symptoms of hypothyroid and have thyroid cyctic nodules which due to which the neck is protruding. (scan shows benign nodules). loodin weight seems impossible. i would love to hear from u what can be done to get rid of these cystic nodules and loose weight too
What if your T3/T4 is normal but overall TSH is high- I take lots of supplements in general and my endocrinologist keeps raising my dosage… I previously took levothyroxine and I been taking Synthroid for about year or so..
What’s your take on someone who can lose inches but keeps gaining weight on the scale. Not muscle mass, it’s been happening for too many years and keeps getting worse. To anyone about to comment that a number in a scale doesn’t matter, no but it matters significantly for heart health and joint pain.
I got my period back just from upping my medication on dessicated thyroid for 16 years . Had thyroid problems on both sides of the family, crazy part is I don’t know much about my moms family as she was adopted but I do know she my mom was very sickly as a child as was I . Low immune function is also thyroid. Getting everything that comes around what I got as a child every flu 🤧 I caught . Much better now …….processed food has been out of my diet for 16 years. Cook all my food in a kitchen. Use stevia instead of sugar which also lowers your immune system. My father’s side of the family he had his atrophied when I was a child, both parents sickly mine, my father had high cholesterol that too is thyroid especially if TSH IS CHRONICALLY ELEVATED. I had learning difficulties in school low thyroid in the womb from the mother means a lower IQ IN CHILDHOOD…..Still can’t drive a car almost 40. My dad thyroid, his sister thyroid, his mother thyroid *** she had her parathyroid removed ***history of thyroid in our family I believe both sides. I think my brothers chronic anger rage 😡 problems from childhood into adulthood stem from low thyroid.
I thought I was going into early menopause since 2024 started 9 months untraceable period . Only 39 years old. My dad had chronic depression on off his whole life……thyroid does that. Basically thyroid STOLE MY ENTIRE FAMILY.
Good day, I would like yo ask for your advice. I have visited two endocrinologist and diagnosed with multi-nodular goiter with the size of 1.4 cm here in Japan (by Japanese doctors). I was told no need to worry and it is benign and they told there is no medication is required. If my goitre becomes bigger then they suggest to be operated. I am at loss because, my siblings got treated with medication, when they had the same problem (they got treated in the Philippines). I was wondering for years bow why I am gaining weight even if I am not eating that much and doing a lot of workouts. And nothing is helping. I am frustrated because somehow the doctors in Japan are not helping at all. Could you please give me any suggestions or advice please. Is there a medication for this other should I to do an operation instead? Please I need your honest advice. Thank you.🙏
I have issues - I gained weight while on Thyroid meds - and went off them - and haven’t been able to lose the weight. My food intake is less than most people take in. I gotta figure this out.
He spoke about this in another video. He mentioned that Levothyroxine can make people gain weight. But also… as he said there is a high chance that you NEED to eat more calories.
If you gained weight on thyroid hormone, it could be that the t4 is converting into reverse t3, hence the weight gain - have you had your reverse t3 looked at? Also, you may need a higher dose, or, lower t4 dose and add t3 (liothyronine), or go on t3 only all together. Make sure your cortisol levels and iron are on point. Sometimes, we don’t absorb the medication properly because of poor diet choices, too.. some need high doses because their cells aren’t receiving the hormone.
Question, how do you adjust medication if doctor says your levels are great. Took me 15 years and a insurance that would no longer pay for Synthroid just to get something different. I actually felt better when my levels were hyper, except for the jetters, I had. I feel like I need to be bumped the lowest dose and would be great. I do better when my T3 is 4 and it is 3 now. The highest normal is 4.1 with the lab my doctor uses. But he says based on my labs I am great even though I told him I felt like I needed a slight amount more. Even that much off the fatigue is real, that joint pain, and always some sort of injury with my feet when my levels are off just a hair.
DR. CHILDS, I have questions about my daughter. She is extremely overweight. She is on Cytomel…..5 mcg. of T3. Her Labs are good. ANY advice is appreciated, please.

Does anyone know where you can get the labs done? My doctor only orders TSH and I want the whole thyroid panel. She's kinda mad because I quit my statins due to side effects, so I'm hesitant to ask.
It's Alice in Wonderland dieting. I exercise but cautiously, eat the good stuff, avoid the bad stuff: weight unchanged. I'm frustrated and eat a Whopper and fries: down 1 1/2 pounds. *throws hands up in the air*

How can I find a doctor who will go through these steps? I've been fighting doctors for well over 20 years. For the first 10, I was telling them "something's wrong" and none would listen. By the time they noticed something was off, I'd gone from 135lbs to 268lbs and was planning my own funeral, because of how bad I felt. I just knew I was dying. Now I'm on synthroid, but still it's not working for me. I NEED HELP~!
I wish that was me no matter what I do I even did three days of fasting I starved myself, I had depression, my thyroid, and Hashimoto it’s just not on he made me miserable, gaining weight a change in my hair to dry, brutal hair I had a personal trainer he was getting frustrated I was on losing weight. I gave up any workouts I choose to follow once a day to eat. I haven’t taken any supplements seriously until now that I’ve got an older story doing research and passive research, but nothing to do with my condition pretty much I gave up on myself. I have not taken any supplements seriously up to this point. (I have thyroid with Hashimoto.)

Could it be i was over but now I'm not and I'm taking meds that are making me hypo? Cos tbh i feel like crap on these tablets. Much worse than before i ever took them. I suspect i was over at least a month before my blood test due to symptoms. I felt fine really apart from the reflux and slight anxiety that has now become major anxiety. I don't want to stop my treatment but i feel as sick as a dog taking these tablets
VERY HELPFUL 👌. Could you maybe do a video on protein powders? My struggle to eat meat is great. I grew up vegan so I never acquired a taste for it but I won't touch vegan garbage of any kind. They're loaded with pesticides that also cause thyroid problems. I do eat meat sometimes but I also drink isolate. Is isolate good for thyroid and weight loss?? I buy clean isolate with only that one ingredient but I've heard so many mixed stories about protein powder and weight loss. Some info on this topic would be SUPER 🙏🙏😊😊
in this video it was recommended to reduce the share of highly processed foods as much as possible All protein powders fall under my definition of what should be avoided eat egg pancakes
If you don't go to doctors and you don't take any drugs. How would a obese person do the thyroid exercise with out breaking their neck? I know it works because when I was anorexic the doctor was going to write a prescription, and I stop him saying just give me one week and if my thyroid is still out I will take the drugs. He checked my thyroid again one week later, then he said to me. "Ok show me what you did?" I didn't have to do the drugs.

If you could help me Doctor, would be great. Thank you so much and keep up the great work.
Can you speak to those who’ve had VSG surgery? I have half a thyroid and VSG a year and half ago, am on synthroid and the weight isn’t budging. It’s hard to eat a enough calories.
The lab tests for thyroid levels are lousy! Just take your underarm basal cell temperature under both arms first thing in the AM before you even sit up in bed - ideally with an old fashioned mercury thermometer. Normal temp for this test is 97.6 degrees F. If it is in the 96s or 95s you DEFINITELY are hypo-thyroid. Likewise if it is mid 98s and above you are hyper-thyroid. Do it under both the left AND right arm because each side of our body is different. This test will detect abnormal thyroid levels before the lab tests that you pay for will even begin to. Both Dr. Balch in *Prescription for Nutritional Healing* and before Balch's book was out, Dr. Linda Page's *Healthy Healing* had been out for decades with new editions regularly coming out and they all recommended doing this test.
@@gotit775lso please read the book stop the thyroid madness by Jeanne Bowthorpe. In addition to listening to as many Dr. Weston child’s videos as you can before seeing your doctor. Doctors have a tendency to try to talk you out of taking T3 with T4 and they also sometimes discourage Armour. Find a DO or a nurse practitioner they tend to be more open to this protocol. Dr. Childs is talking about. You have to know what you’re talking about before seeing a doctor I can tell you that from experience.

Ummm I've had hypothyroidism since 2007 and lost 60lbs between April 2016 and December 2017 and have kept it off so clearly exercising more and eating less CAN work ror weight loss in hypothyroid patients. Also too much hormone causes side effects such as headaches.
John, don't be hard on yourself...this is a lot to deal with plus whatever else you are dealing with...don't try to do it alone...find a good professional to talk to and also share your feelings with a trusted friend...also support groups are good...look for people who care about you and believe in you and want you to succeed...you deserve to be happy ..
I was told in medical assistant school that once you start taking one medication for your thyroid, you cannot change it and must stay on the same formula for your drug the whole time. Now you're saying the opposite. Which is true?
"Fixing your thyroid"....sir...I HAVE NO TYROID!!!!! IT IS GONE, IT DOES NOT EXIST. "Thyroid function"...again, MY THYROID CEASED TO FUNCTION THE MOMENT IT WAS REMOVED FROM MY BODY. Once I hear about Thyroid support and improve thyroid function or whatever, I stop listening. I don't have a thyroid to improve or function.
Is there a chance that MAYBE it was not the video for you? Obviously, if there is no thyroid you’re on a combination medication like cytomel or at least T3 replacement . The part about improving your numbers and monitoring them still applies. The improving function part, maybe look into whether or not some of the supplements or advice still work to rather than improve the thyroid function, to improve how your body processes, absorbs and uses the replacement hormones. Sometimes we need to listen and try to extrapolate info. Especially about conditions where most doctors don’t give you anymore info than: yh, your TSH is fine at 5.3, you don’t need medication, support or any other blood tests.

Thank you. You are doing a service to humanity. I have been on t3 medication for a yr and my life has changed.
I am sure that it is impossible to be a raw vegan and receive the necessary amino acids in a form easily digestible for the body and in the required quantity, as well as fats and vitamins in an quick available form
What does your body make cholesterol for hormones from?

Most probably you have insuline resistance, get tested for this and go to a professional dietetician.
@@selyemperzsa1dieticians usually offer poor advice!
@@selyemperzsa1it’s more likely that they have thyroid issues.. low carb actually helps with insulin resistance and if they are not losing weight, they more than likely need thyroid hormone.

Have you tried Carnivore Diet? There are lots of videos about it. I did 6 mths of research before starting. Just a thought...😊
I disagree with low carb being damaging.. many of us do really well on low carb/zero carb. I don’t do well with probiotics/prebiotics, they make me bloated. We are all so very different. As long as we listen to our bodies & do what’s best for us, that’s enough.
Everyone has their own understanding of "low carb", that‘s the problem.

I live in the UK, my doctors take a blood test and give levothyroxine, they told me this is the only medication for it! I am at a loss, I went from 8 stone to 12 stone..it's been 8 years since being on levo and I am still the same weight, I'm very active but no matter what I do nothing helps..I have been going to the gym for almost 5 months doing small weights and cardio, I also walk my 3 dogs every day with longer walks on off gym days...still the same weight/size..I am at a loss, I feel like what's the point, I'm so unhappy at this size, it's frustrating, depressing and tbh it makes me not want to be here, I am fkn sick of doing everything (I eat the fish/chicken/veg, 1 treat a week), getting no help from doctors ...I'm going to get an appointment and ask about the medication you mentioned, why the fk are the doctors even lying about the medication, they don't give us any other information about the blood test other than your levels are fine....aaarrrrggghhhh!!!!
the way ive been diagnosed since i was 16 and didn't even know all of this.
How can I get suppliments that are affordable? I have done intermittent fasting where I will only eat between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM with no results. I am to the point of just giving up food, completely. I don't even care anymore. I just need to lose weight.
It's quite apparent from most of the comments that there was not a lot of listening going on.

I was wondering for years bow why I am gaining weight even if I am not eating that much and doing a lot of workouts. And nothing is helping. Is there a medication for this other should I to do an operation instead? Please I need your honest advice. Thank you.🙏

But also… as he said there is a high chance that you NEED to eat more calories.
@@zarasbubble1748no no, if they eat more, they will most likely gain more weight. I tired that and it was a terrible idea.
Can’t help with the doctor part, but Walmart fills synthroid for $4 per month, even without insurance.
Make sure you look at your reverse t3 levels, too.

Thanks

Obviously, if there is no thyroid you’re on a combination medication like cytomel or at least T3 replacement .
The part about improving your numbers and monitoring them still applies.
The improving function part, maybe look into whether or not some of the supplements or advice still work to rather than improve the thyroid function, to improve how your body processes, absorbs and uses the replacement hormones.
Sometimes we need to listen and try to extrapolate info. Especially about conditions where most doctors don’t give you anymore info than: yh, your TSH is fine at 5.3, you don’t need medication, support or any other blood tests.
Carnivore!!
I'm the opposite.. I am losing weight at a high rate.. from 230 to current 155. What is the cause of this
Maybe get your thyroid levels checked, you may need a medication adjustment. It’s a hyper response.
