I have loved this song forever and never tire of it. Chris, I so appreciate your musicianship. While there's no shortage of great jazz guitarists out there, only a select few are inspiring. You, sir, most certainly fall into that category. Please know that you are making a difference in the lives of so many of us who value the craft and the music that makes it all so worthwhile. Thank you.
Thank you Fred!!!!!
Doesn’t it just tear your heart out?

One of my all-time favourite tunes ... super, sympathetic arrangement, Chris ... the chord sequencing complements the underlying melody beautifully. Excellent work!
Thank you Paul
You're smooth as silk. I bought the music from your store. You make it look soooo easy. It ain't! But fun to work on it.
Thank you Pat!
I'm starting to love the sound of the vintage 125. As usual, nice work Chris.
Thanks Deny, I am really enjoying the P90 sound. I was always a humbucker fan. Still am, but there is something special about a vintage P90

Man that full body archtop sure sounds beautiful. Of course your playing plays a great role in that too, so nice.

So good!
Thanks Tom
Classic Chris; thank you for sharing.
Thanks Jon
Man, you're great
Thanks Louis
This is a masterful performance of this beautiful ballad. I'm currently learning this from the "Real Book" and using this as a reference is really nice. Also, LOVE The guitar!! :)
Thank you Charles!
Did it again man. Fantastic tone, and great arrangement.
Thanks Matthew
Chris Whiteman can you tell me how you'd set a 3-band eq to get that tone? Playing Ibanez as253 into Peavey Delta Blues. Sounds rich with mids, with high end cut back with tone knob. Any insights? Sounds so lush!
Well, I don't know too much about frequencies by name. I would have to do it by experimenting. I had the bass and treble both on 4 of the princeton reverb I was playing through. Volume was on 2.5 and reverb was on 3.5.
j'adore votre jazz, vos arrangements... I spent many pleasant evenings with you :-)
Thank you Patrice!
I see that comment sometimes ..."who could give this a dislike " ,
weeellll...who was that guy ? I wanta know his name
this was just about perfect , arrangement , played , even the guitar sound , you totally nailed it Chris , thanx
Thank you Bob
That is a beautiful arrangement Chris. I am really glad to see you highlight the ES-125. I have a full bodied 125 and am such a fan of the P 90. It sounds rich. Of course your tone comes from your fingers but the guitar certainly does your playing justice.
Thank you Bill!
My first real guitar was an ES 175 with 2 P-90s. I viewed it as a “cheap” guitar and couldn’t wait to get a better one, so I could play better. It took me a very long time before I realized that the quality of my playing was not hampered by that 125. I wish I had that axe back in the collection today.
Thank you for your beautiful sound. At 1:01, Bb_maj7(9) with the pinky looks great. I can’t do that.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you!
so beautiful!
I like your guitarplay
from Japan.
Thank you!
This looks like a fun piece to learn how to play.
Amazing sounding, thank you for sharing Chris!
Thanks Pavel
Awesome.
Thanks
Very nice. Thanks for posting
Thanks Billy
I’ve watched a lot of your chord Melody’s I like them! Do you arrange them yourself?
Yes, I do my own arranging
Very tasteful nice work.
Molto bello !!
Thank you Carlo
Lovely
Thank you
do you like using SheetMusicPlus to clear your arrangements? do you find your students are using it and are willing to make purchases through them?
It works well and people use it. There are limited options for self publishing.
Thanks Chris for putting this out. Gets me to stretch to achieve more on my guitar. With your great sound, I am curious what strings you use on this and your Ibanez A200. To me strings are a big element of getting your great sound. I tried the TS flats, but they weren't as slippery as the ones that came out of the factory on my Ibanez LGB. So ordered Ibanez flats, but they are hard to find in the US. Again, thanks!
Hi Rick, I had thomastik infel flatwounds on here. Same for the Ibanez, however I’ve been using Daddario round wounds recently as well
@@ChrisWhitemanGuitar What gauge, please, Chris? 12s?
Wonderful … is a ES125 T?
Thank you!, Yes, it's a 1959 ES125T
Very nice playing!
What do you think about the neck thickness? thinking about getting one of those for myself
Thank you! the neck is qutie chunky compared with modern necks, but I don't find it objectionable in any way. I have actually grown to love these 1950's necks.
@@ChrisWhitemanGuitar It deffinetly shows in your playing that you are comfortable with that guitar. Unfortunately for me I struggle with chunkier necks. Do you have any experience with later models (Mid to late 60's) ?
That's magic. Which influences do you have?
Thanks Mila. Wes Montgomery, Johnny Smith, Jim Hall, Kenny Burrell.... and many many more!
Oh man !! 👍🏻
Thanks Steve
NiZe !!!
Thank you!
absolutely love your playing and tone...two questions...what pickup are you using in your neck and are you using flat wound or round wound strings? Thanks, Ed
Thanks Ed! The pickup is the original 1959 - P90. Strings are round wound bit.ly/DAddarioEXL145
Hi Chris. These are stainless steel frets correct ?
yes
I had Kenny Marshall refret my 1950s Gibson ES-175 a year and a half ago. Negative things I read and heard about stainless steel frets made me decide on nickel.
I have already worn a groove in them, mosty under the B string.
The tone you are getting in this video is the best endorsement I have heard for stainless steel frets.
smoothplatex7 I was a bit nervous about going with stainless frets. Afraid that it would hurt the value of the guitar with collectors, and that it would negatively impact the tone. I now plan on using stainless on all my future refrets!
Très jolie! What kind of strings you have
Daddario round wound .012-.054
Sounds great man
by the way, what's that one guitar on the wall?
Thanks. It is an Ibanez Af200
Thanks Chris, got the transcription, amazingly good, especially the cool ending.
Awesome, thank you!
alternative title: how to kill someone with a song in 1:50
anyone ever told you that you look like john inmon?
well... u do.
lucky u.
Ha!
Chris, can barely hear your video. You might want to record it again hotter!
Strange, I can hear great on my phone. Not sure why that is happening.
I just wanna be your friend man
Thank you 🙏🏻

This is filthy
I know cats who own expensive, custom made archtops who don't sound nearly as good.
nothing like a 1950's Gibson!
Nice performance! But learn to relax your face musculature or you'll look like grandpa Simpson before you are 50.
Thanks for the tip
Beautiful!
Thank you Greg
